i agree somewhat on your comment, but it itsnt fair to disregard other forms of music, and in definitions of lyrisim on defsounds are very limited.
Nas never really pulled me- too political and i dont need music to tell me how to feel, i can form opinions on my own.
Poetry is not all about eloquence and length.
From 68 versions of Shakespeare to 8 verse Haiku , poetry is very diffent in all forms. Your defintion of "smart lyrics" may not be the same in everyone.
Take for instance art (as in paintings) consider the paintings of rembrant and other painting that take painstakinly long to make, and the short abstact paintings made by someone like picasso, totally different ways of making art, but both are highly respected.
Why cant hip-hop be they same? Why tear down each other? IMO its not a single artist thats killin hip-hop but the unwillingness for artists as a whole to accept anything different than their own or what they approve.

So in conclusion, I'm not saying this rapper is better than this.. (i might have but i probaly was joking) but everyone has his/her place in hip/hop, and it when you start to define what is real hip-hop then thats when we all lose.

Ok. I feel what you saying but from where you coming from, we have different views on hip-hop. You sat kids are "eating up Soulja Boy" but who can blame them? I personally dont bump Soulja Boy, but I dont mind him either, and you made a statement saying that Entertainers like him encourage men to "superman that hoe" but then again can you blame Soulja Boy for saying that? His song isnt going to to be the last one to envelope that theme. How many generations of men have abbandoned their kids, leaving them to raised by the mothers or nobody at all? And these seasoned rappers aint doing anything to change this at all, so why should soulja be different? No body has taught him better and I'm pretty sure no one will. PARENTS SHOULD RAISE KIDS NOT MUSIC!

It is all a form of HIP-Hop. HIP-HOP started as music about people expressing themselves. That's what the artist today are doing Expressing themselves.

It just depends on the person's interpretation of the music and what they get from it. Just because you don't like a track doesn't mean it's not HIP-HOP.

But if you feel that Music should educate people, since we as a people abandon our own, then write to your fav. rappers and tell them to start making songs about it..
