I could see if his fan base grew because of one song, but it was hundreds of songs, and numerous features, in which he was impressive.
Look at it like this. If Rick Ross or Mims dropped the same amount of songs, and did the same amount of features, do you think he'd have the same buzz?? Fuck no. Niggas would be super tired of them, because they can't be that consistent.
Another example. If a new nigga got on a smash single with, say Nas, and killed that shit harder than Nas, his fan base would probably be through the roof.
Lets say three months later the nigga released an album (or mixtape, which ever you'd prefer), and the shit he put out was wack as hell, EVERYBODY would say, "that nigga was over rated, he fooled the shit outta us." In other words, not what we expected.
