With no 50 cent, no Dr. Dre, and no Interscope, it seemed as if the only one thinking the Game was going to make another Documentary was The Game himself. Ever since the release of his critically acclaimed album, it looked as if all the odds were stacked against Mr. Taylor. No more hard hitting beats from Dre, no more Hypnotizing hooks from 50, and probably no more support from a monster label like Interscope… no way Game can make another high caliber album…or can he? Enter the Doctor’s Advocate.
The album picks up right where The Documentary left off, pulling you once again into the dark streets of Compton with heart-pounding beats and gangster lyrics that would make the Doctor himself proud. Tracks like “Da Shit” take you back to a time were the West Coast was king and funk filled beats ruled the airwaves. Even The Game recognizes it with lines like “Its time to bring back chronic and the doggystyle/ west coast n*a still holding shit down”. Continuing on from trying to resurrect the West Coast, Game moves on to a more localized track shouting out his hometown on the track “Compton” with an unusual guest appearance and production from Will I Am of Black Eyed Peas fame. Using an interpolation of Schooly D’s “Gangster Boogie” (Will did his homework) for the hook, the two create an anthem for “Compton” that even Eazy-E would co-sign.
With tracks like “Remedy” (produced by Just Blaze) and “Let’s Ride” (Scott Storch), Game makes sure that you have music to bump in your low rider. The tracks have the feel and sound (even Game sounds eerily like Dre) like they would fit snuggly in any of Dre’s Chronics. However its not all just rider music with Game. On the Kanye West produced track, “Wouldn’t Get Far”, Game airs out his frustration with rap video vixens stating, “all these new video bitches try to be Melyssa Ford/ but they don’t know melyssa Ford drive a Honda Accord/ shes a video vixen but behind closed doors she’ll do whatever it takes to get to the Grammy awards”. Also, with the laid back track “Ol English”, Game sheds light to the other side of the gang banging life in his ode to both Old English the malt liquor and R.I.P. tats in Old English font. The track tells a couple of stories of Game’s slain friends and family and how he looked towards both Englishes for comfort, showing a soft side side to the usually very defensive Game.
While usually artists suffer a lack of effort on there Sophmore albums, Game shows no sign of this in the Doctor’s Advocate. It was a big risk for Game not to go with Dre on this album and try to make a name for himself, but surprisingly it paid off. Save for maybe one or two tracks this album would fit perfectly next to other West Coast classics and Def recommends this album.

Now for a intelligent review...
It's a good album theres no denying that. The Game as proven he can write a decent album without 50 Cent and Dr. Dre's help. Despite numerous A-list artists supporting some of the tracks it is lacking in a certain areas.
The biggest criticism of this album is The Games constant mentioning of Dr. Dre, almost every song has a Dre reference. Yes that is the theme of the album but fans may be disappointed that The Game has preferred to boost his former mentor Dr. Dre more than himself. We all know about Dre and what he's done, we want to hear about The Game.
You will find that after listening to this album several times you still really don't know who The Game is or what his plans are for west coast rap. He certainly has not put himself in a position to lead it and seems content only to reminice of its former glory and former soldiers.
Despite this, The Doctor's Advocate has some very impressive individual tracks and the Games lyics and word play remain flawless. This album is an accomplishment proving the Game doesn't need 50 Cent but this will only be cemented as fact if the Doctor's Advocate manages to sell an impressive 5 million copies like the Documentary did.

I don't see why people make a big deal out of game's name dropping. Have you ever heard Nas's Unauthorized Biography Of Rakim off street disciple or the countless verses Jay-Z has used from former greats like Slick Rick or Biggie. A lot of artist pay homage to the people they used to look up to. It's showing respect to the one that came before. And if name dropping is all you hear i got to ask you Do you listen to music or do you just skim through it?

I think game is a good rapper but he isn't an established rapper yet. he still needs time to establish himslef. i think the DA is definitly a classic. The Game provides us with tha modern day gangsta rap. the beats are well produced. California Vacation is the best song out of the DA. 9/10
I was not sure how this album would come out, but I must say that "The Game" has definitely put a huge effort in to this one and has thought out every word, beat, hook on this one and has put together what I believe to be solid material. Without Dre or Fifty on this album, he still manages to do extremely well. Although heavy with the name dropping at times, I believe that he appreciates the rap game and that this is just simply a sign of him showing love to others when name dropping. However, you should forget about whose name or what names he drops and listen to the lyrics. Extremely tight and well put together. I would definitely put him up there with Nas, Pac & Biggie if he were to compose 3 more stellar albums that consist of the same effort and dedication that he has put in to "The Documentary" and "Doctors Advocate." I already copped a copy for myself and I will be using this one as a stocking stuffer. This album is sure to go platinum + - One Love

One thing I dont understand about Game's motif....I can understand getting away from Dre, 50 and Em but how comes he doesnt even have them appearing on a track. "We Aint" from the Documentary was hot. If no that then what about the "One Blood (Remix)? He definately could have picked up Em or Dre for that songs along with the 20 other rappers.....They would have been a better choice than Ja Rule. My only problem with Game....gotta stick with the people that sign you at least a little bit. I give the CD a 7 out of 10

Musically this album is a 9/10, it a very complete overall album...Every track flowed nicely from one to the other, unlike some albums where it seems like a bunch of tracks thrown together. Due to the fact that ALL the chips were stacked against him this time out, where as on the first album everybody was on his side, it deserves a perfect 10.......He made a great album with his back against the wall......It was a make or break album for GAME.....10/10
This album is far from a west coast classic album. First of all this dude is a fraud at best and whatever he raps about is lies. Now the world should give 50 an apology cause the whole world knew 50 was lying about writing the hooks for Gayme's top selling hit records. Well, after listening to the DA it's clearly obvious Gayme was lying again. That dude could write a hook to save his lying little soul. None of his records went number 1 and he hasn't sold nowhere near the amount of albums he sold with the Unit. Not to mention the fact everyone knew 50 was lying again when he said Dre would not be working with Gayme. Well all that was true too! Despite my disliking of his very questionable charachter, the album wasn't bad at all...not classic shit but not bad either.
My main beef is the constant name dropping of people like Jay and Dre who don't even fuck with him. Why would you dickride a man to the point of obsession? You make one joint explaining your side and you keep it pushing. This bum says his name at least 5 times per song, along with Snoop, Eazy, or pretty much anyone else who will get him some shine.
