As the album concluded, I came to the realization that either Ricky hired a ghostwriter or he stepped his lyrical game up big time. You'd think you were listening to an (extremely) watered down Jay-Z.
However, even though he has the lyrical talent under his belt, he still doesn't stray out of the typical I'm a boss, I get money, no-one-can-get-to-my-level subject matter. You get tired of the drug talk after a few songs, but the fantastic production and Ross' improved flow will keep you unwilling to press the next button.
Production - 8.5
The production. Oh man, the wonderful production. Trilla's 15 tracks are all head-nodders. The only downside is that the majority of the tracks manage to throw in a synth. Not that this is a bad thing, but that may not be a listener's preference. I enjoyed the blazing synths ripping through the tracks, but that's just me. Up-and-coming group J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League steals the show, producing the show-stopping "Maybach Music," the sinister introduction, "Billionaire," and "Luxury Tax."
The beats you'd expect from Rick Ross, the bass heavy, booming club songs and chopped-and screwed melodies are gone, and are replaced with a more mellow but independent sound, shown mainly on "Maybach Music." Hell, even Mannie Fresh manages to tone down the club sound on "All I Have In This World."
The change works, allowing you to focus more on Ross' finely tuned lyrics. Regardless of your musical tastes, you'll love the beats on this album.
Songs - 8
You can definitely tell how hard Rick worked to try and release a classic, but it just doesn't work. Failures such as "Money Makes Me Cum," which sports one of the more hotter beats on the album, disappoints with it's overplayed theme, an ode to the green paper we all know and love. "Reppin' My City" also falls short of expectations, sounding like just another crunk beat we've all heard before. The chunky rapper bounces back on heaters like "This Is The Life" with thundering brass that really compliments the track. The stand-out song that will make you reach for the repeat button is the stunning "Maybach Music." J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League cranks out a real gem, letting the Boss fully flourish. Not to mention the honorable guest appearance by the legendary Hova, who effortlessly steals the shine and pulls his long awaited "Renegade."Seeing the duo side by side on a track makes you realize that Ross' lyrical ability isn't as simple as we see it to be, but it isn't at it's peak just yet.

We've all come to know and love Rick's coke rap, but you can only take in so much in one offering. If Ross cuts down on the brag-a-holic lyrics and tireless episodes of drug dealings, we'll see a near classic album. Production on this album was absolutely incredible, as were the lyrics, surprisingly enough.
Filler tracks like "Reppin' My City" and "Money Make Me Cum" prevent the album from reaching it's full potential, but the multiple bangers make up for the losses. If Ross' third album is anything like this one, expect a classic.

Damn, this shit might be worth a listen after all. I can't believe the reviewer said Port of Miami was mediocre though. That shit was great from beginning to end, and to be honest, on his earlier mixtapes, Ross always displayed some lyrical ability.
If I can preview this shit without being overwhelmed with boredom, I'll definitely cop.

This CD definatly got some bangers on it. I didn't listen to the whole thing but so far (through the first 6 tracks) it is about an 8 - 8.5 rating imo.

This record is just like every other record out. Just has different Beats. The Lyrics are bitches, cars hoes, ice and money. I guess you want to pay for the beats though but the lyrics are the same. Trust me its the truth no matter how you slice it up.

Overall is right where it should be. I would say Trilla is an okay commercialized album in today's standards, which is actually a Plus+. "All I have in this World" the best track!!! Period!
