In an industry where the amount you sell in ringtones has become what major labels look for when deciding your relevancy in the game, the art of hardcore hip hop has taken a back seat to the softer side of things. Over the last four years hip hop has taken a right turn, with a bigger focus on fun, flash, and instant gratification. This change in direction has featured artists who are not always up to par lyrically, and at other times can't seem to put together an album with more than two decent songs on it. But just when things seemed to be at its worst, and the hardest street anthem seemed to be lollipop, the boys from South Side Jamaica Queens jumped back into the scene, with a ruthless aggression that stirs more than just your sound system. Now into their sophomore album they no longer want you to Beg For Mercy, because everyone is now a target.
Production 8- Imagine bass, heavy drums and more bass and that pretty much sums up about 99% of the beats on this album. Even the song for the ladies can blare through your stereo at full blast with no shame. The production on this album, although not perfect offers just what 50 and his gang said the album would give you, aggression. The beats are in a sense up tempo but gritty, rough but enjoyable, and matches the pace and mood of the album to the t. If your looking for an album with a mellow track or two, the production alone should be enough to tell you, that you should look elsewhere.
Lyrics 7-Unlike some other artists, these three have never been slouches on the mic. The corny line factor stays at a minimum on this album, and the tough talk and energy at times make a verse or a line seem a little better than what it actually is. 50 and Yayo usually have the same formula when producing rhymes, though neither has recently been known to amaze with punchlines, they make up for it with downright disrespectful, catchy, witty lines and can ride any beat well. Where as Banks can change up the flow and shower the beat with a barrage of syllables and punchlines. There will be no mind blowing word play and you probably wont be mulling over any complex metaphor's, but the constant subliminals, catchy punchlines and the funny insults (RN) add to the enjoyment of the album.
Songs 7.5-Once someone decides to stick to only one subject for an entire album, its usually hard to rate them to high. While listening to Terminate On Sight you will hear the following. "I'll kill you, I get money, I F*** your girl, I get sex for free", and some more of "I'll kill you". For someone that likes a little bit of everything in their music, this isn't the most diverse of content to have on an album. But surprisingly it works, the combination of hot production, witty lyrics, constant disses to other rappers and a mood set on attack mode at all times makes this formula of repetition by tough talk a success. The original trio of 50, Banks, and Yayo flow smoothly on every track together, complementing each others styles, and brining a different personality for their verses. While Young Buck does appear on about five songs, it seems more like a feature and at times his verses do not match the intensity of the other three. Once this cd enters the stereo of a car with a good sound system, the dynamics of this album change a bit. The heavy bass will pound through the speakers and dent the ears of listeners close, by giving confidence to the ugly man, and a mean streak to the once timid one.
Conclusion 7.5- Fans said they wanted to hear G-unit go back to their hardcore ways... they were tired of watching 50 run through the sand with no shirt on, and they were definitely tired of hearing Yayo try to sing the girls into buying his first album. So this effort, more so than Beg For Mercy, was one for the fans. From start to finish this album offers energy, aggression, tough talk, and a bravado that only a member of G-Unit could embody. You'll be hard pressed to find someone who can hear this album and not find at least 5 songs that they like, especially with songs like "Straight Out Of South side". This album is definitely a keeper. Make sure you have it in your Mp3 players, and feel free to blast in on your speakers with all of the windows rolled down.

COMMENTS
I am thoroughly enjoying the sophomore project by the Unit. The beats are HOT, the lyrics and hooks are fun & rough at the same time. Lloyd Banks' performance alone on the album is enough to go out and cop it, but Fif and Yayo aren't far behind either!
YAYO deftly stepped his game up and he deserves a big PROP for his effort!! can't wait for his and banks next solo effort!
I copped the album, and I also give the album a 7.5. If you take out all the club joints off the album and you have one of the hottest street albums in a long time. Yayo definitely improved, Fif did good, but BANKS murdered almost every track on the album. That verse he laced in the song "T.O.S" is ridiculous.
IM AN AVID G-UNIT FAN N THIS IS THE TYPE OF MUSIC WE ALL WANTED FROM G-UNIT (FANS N HATERS ALIKE) BUT IN ALL HONESTY BEG 4 MERCY WAS BETTER overall cuz it had buck instead of yayo bt yayo did step his game up n banks was more on top of his game back thn evn tho i dnt think he fell off..the songs tht were really good on b4m r better thn the song tht r really good on t.o.s imo
LMFAO!!!! They Did Fat Joe Numbers...Ha Ha..I'm Not Tha ONe To Hate On Them Niggaz But When They Was Talkin That Big Numbers Shyt It Kinda Made Me Wanna See Tha AfterMath And Here I IS..Less Than 300.000 SMH...Scream At Me,1..
how can u rate this ish better den the carter 3
gtfooh
the reviews by this dude has lost all credibilty, we need a new album reviewer
Yea, i was pleasantly surprised with T.O.S....Erbody on the unit stepped their game up. Even yayo has some hot bars (piano man, Kitty kat)...and the songs are hot. Beats all good... My only gripe is that "I dont wanna talk about it, and "Southside" were on Brendas baby boy which came out like last october
overall
B4M-8.5/10
T.O.S.-7.5/10
I'd give Beg For Mercy a 8/10
TOS gets a 8.5/10 because of that Banks song near the end and no Young Buck in every song
T.O.S is crazy! This is what we needed. It gest better everytime I listen to it. The creativity on the hooks, lyrics and they all come through on the tracks they fit best. No complaints, non at all! My niggaz is back!
I didn't think it would be possible, but T.O.S. was acctually even better than I've expected. I was a little worried that it would be a litte too soft after reading some reviews, but that was obviously not the case. Banks and 50 (and Buck) delivered as they alwas do, but Yayo really surprised me. After hearing his verse on "I like the way she do it" I was pretty sure he would take down the whole album a couple of notches, but he acctually did great on this album. he was not too far behind 50, Banks & Buck on his verses (most of them, anyway) and and really comes through on the chorus to "money makes the world go round"
this was the first honest rewiew I've read on T.O.S. by the way, the others I read hardly mentioned all the good parts, and focused on the not so good Parts (which are quite few in my eyes), but I really agree on almost everything in this Review.
\/ what the fuck? why did my comment get trashed if he said the same thing?
cause u a dickrider i dont care if u didnt like c3 but LAX didnt even come out yet so dont hate game just cause 50 does
I would honestly give this album a 10/10, because if you like aggressive gangstarap this is the best you can find...
413 Josh, thats the biggest fucking joke ive ever saw from a stan LOL, T.O.S was good but take "boos boos" dick out your mouth nigga, sounding like the spokesmen of G-Unit, 10 my dick, its 8-8.5/10 its a good album dont make it seem like a classic.
the ablum is hot with or without buck
co-sign^^^
i am obviously a gunit fan and am usually biased in my opinions, but with this effort even the haters have to agree that the unit brought the goods on this album!! i knew it was gonna be fire and it was the only songs i don't like are kitty kat, and get down the rest are on replay!!!
to quote john lennon- 'i'm as stoned as i've ever been and more stoned than any of you will ever be.'
It was an aggressive album. 8.5/10 for me.
i enjoyed the album, definitely a lot of summer anthem tracks too bump out your car. album isnt a classic, but im a unit fan so im definitely content with the album...dont see this shii getting old for a long time
T.O.S worth your money
the album is good not a classic but it is mad good i coped it the day it came out but it looks like this is gonna b another gunit flop i think they said its only gonna do lik 1000 first week which sucks but w.e gunit still my fav rap group the only one left lol that puts albums out any way
they are my fav group too, were did they say 1,000?
we dont believe you you need more ppl
don't believe that 100k shit.. eversite is saying something else.. in mediatakeout they said like 700K.. and another site said 200k..so you never know..
i liked this album tho..hot beats.. hor rhymes.. but to be honest with you guys.. i didn't like the first 2 singles that much.. and if the album hasn't 400k or 500k in the first week then it's all because of the 2 singles.
but overall.. you can't say the album wasn't hot just because of 2 singles
imma give it 8/10
i think this album gon be gold in the first week
and if the album hasn't sold ****
go out and spend 12 bucks people
Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City - go cop that shit from a retailer and support the music industry and albums you like
TI and Nas, the next 2 purchases
albums a 7.5 or 8 no classic
get the fuck out of here with that 100,000 bullshit, how they go say what a cd go sale, it hasnt even been 2 days yet. If yall think 50 really go let this album sale 100,000 especially since wayne did the mill in a week. I say the 9/10 on the album damn near classic.
nigga u tell us why the album not hot, T.O.S is the best shit that done drop so far this year.
inform me too about why the album was not hot? i hope you have fact or a educated opinion too why, if not don't bother
has defsounds ever given a album a 9 or 10 outta 10
I think they gave the latest talib kweli joint a 9
they said 100,000 something at sohh.com check it out some where there and sohh.com dont lie i mean i want the album to at least push in 3oo.ooo cuz off of that the unit can go gold but 100.000 thats bad hope its not true cuz album is hot
they said 100,000 something at sohh.com check it out some where there and sohh.com dont lie i mean i want the album to at least push in 3oo.ooo cuz off of that the unit can go gold but 100.000 thats bad hope its not true cuz album is hot
yeah games second album and eardrum both got 9s
yeah the GAYme's album got 9 even tho it did't deserve it at all..it was reviewed by DEEMEHLOW.. i don't know who the hell he is.. but what i know is that he's wrong to say it's 9 from 10.. album was wack...
They should of gave Eardrum a 10, because that was a fucking masterpiece. Games second album is at least a 7.5.
Yayo definitely improved. Bank$ is classic '04 Bank$ again, and 50 just seems pissed. The beats are grimey as fuck... even the bitch songs. I like this album. TOS didn't blow me away by any means, but this is what I wanted from G-Unit. "No Days Off" is the best track.
I really liked the album, and about the commercial tracks, come on, every album has one, and be honest, I like the way she do it aint that bad...And this album was way better then C3, and if you look at my profile, I listen to everyone, so im not a hater, but it is what it is, C3 really dissapointed me, and this album was oppisite, I thought C3 was going to be great, it wasnt, I thought this was going to be ok, but it wasnt, it was very good, It is not a clasic album, but hey, who expected that? I give it a 8/10, and if you look that there are 5 years passed since Beg For Mercy, this is pretty close, and if it was with buck, if would be even closer!
I never hated Yayo before, but now no man can say he hate him because he is a wack rapper, damn, I like Yayo more on the album then Fif, and Fif is always good, looking forward to Before I Self Destruct!
TOS was a good album better then the first gunit album!!!
agreed
less Buck, better beats, better hooks
Um Kitty Kat is nice....beats sick!
Haven't listened to all of it yet but I love it so far. Giving it a preemptive 9/10
OK yea it gets a 7.5
Nice beats and aggressiveness thruout
This isn't my favourite album of the year ..i dont really have one (i still bump fabolous' joint from last year). so in my opinion its not that great ..Has anyone noticed how often Lyricalthought manages to take unnoticed jibes an shots at Wayne: ''But just when things seemed to be at its worst, and the hardest street anthem seemed to be lollipop, the boys from South Side Jamaica Queens jumped back into the scene'' it might jus be me but this ni99a startin to look like a hater. i dont wanna compare TOS an C3 either because they are different. but i remember 'Candyshop' 'Curious' and 'Smile'and i know you all do aswel(except yung mayo). im not sure that 'I Like the way she do it' is that different to 'Shawty wanna thug(oh yeah I like that)-Lollipop'. Bias reviews are pointless...
If people would stop bootlegging the albums that actually are worth buying, then there wouldnt be any 100k rumors.
Go out to best buy, spend 12 dollars and support the music industry. Even if you only buy 2-3 albums a year... make this one of them
TI and Nas should be the other 2 albums
this is the first CD I've bought this year and I pretty much like every track on the album, except 'Get Down', because Swizz' Beats fucking suck.
Favourite Track : You So Tough
Banks killed that track.
cant compare a group album to a person album
you mad cuz they stylin on you
FUc G unit aint no G in none of dem clownz name
dis album is fuckin fire i give it a 10 shit is hard n if u dont like it u must a soulja boy fan or just a hater
Wack album. Only 4 great songs. It's cohesibe, but thats cause every song is basically the same thing.
50 suck, Yayo suck, banks decent.
5/10
You suck too.. get your fucking ass hater off the site
You So Tough is probably the best Unit song Ive ever heard
I will STAY bumpin this in the Subaru
fat ass blackman
0/10 wack ass shit
not feelin it.
i listened with an open mind, even tho i don't like g-unit, had a few good tracks, overall, it sucked.
anyone who said this was better than c3 is retarded, btw.
can't wait for LAX.
honestly TOS was heat, 8.5 not a classic cuz u can skipp over a couple tracks, but def. gets heavy play for me. Banks was fire as usual, 50 was 50, and if there were a most improved rapper award it would go to Yayo cuz he stepped up his game on this album.
bottom line better than C3
i wonder if BWS can make a better group album??
how can any of ya'll say that without buck in every song it makes the cd better?? replacing buck with yayo has got to be the biggest downgrade
since this shit flopped....g-unit will no longer be on interscope....watch
1st. Yayo was in the group before buck
2nd. G-unit is leaving interscope not because it floped..and i doubt it did
well have to wait and find out, but because as soon as 50 finishes his contract with interscope hes moving g unit to a new location sonnnnnn
i dont understand why yall niggaz care so much what da album sells. who gives a damn. theres plenty of great albums out there that didnt move alot of units. no matter how many copies TOS sells, if u like hard newyork rap, its a bangin album. period. worth the money...only $10 at bestbuy. go cop it.
1st i recall buck being in every song on beg for mercy (which was a good album) and yayo being in none...and on tos its all yayo and barely buck (which is part of the reason the cd sucked ass)
2nd it's what jimmy said and why would 50 stay on interscope and not g-unit? sonnnnnnnnn
1st yayo wa sin jail, there for no shyne on the tos album.
and yayo actuly did good in the album he step his subpar lyrics up. buck was on 4songs and buck didnt outshine no one on the few tracks he was on. now i aggree beg for mercy is a better album. but this cd is far from sucking ass...this is aggressive any other kind of rap sucks ass.
2nd who is jimmy to speak on 50? and who said 50 would stay on interscope and leave gunit? i clearly stated when 50s contract with interscope is finished he will take gunit and move the group to another label..
and you cant sonnn pll, if you have no reading comprehension
hold up so cause they talk tough in their lyrics (which most of it is bullshit anyway caue the only people around these niggas holdin a gun is the damn police) they get a 7. 50 drops some of the wackest lines i ever heard and i cant listen to what banks is sayin without fallin asleep. and i wont even say the other niggas name cause he aint worth it. this shit flopped hard and you give it a 7.5 and the carter 3 a 7. t.i. gets a 7 on his last album and just about every nigga from the south get shitty ratings yet everybody buys that shit. i dont give a damn what you say is a good album if the majority of america buys this niggas album then the other nigga aint shit just cause a few niggas that think they decide what real hip hop is think this niggas is this shit. buy his damn album and prove he's the shit. if its a million wayne dick riders out their then thats a million records sold and maby your favorite rapper needs to step his game up and get some dick riders and he could actually sell some records.
rolling stone reviews for both albums

Tha Carter III

I lost all respect for that mag with those reviews. it had 2 different people doing it?? that was horrible
I lost respect for them too with that. T.O.S. goes hard man. But people love to hate the unit so they ain't gonna show no love to them.
i give this joint is a 6.5.... Beg For Mercy was sumthin serious... This joint man... shows they age. A few hot songs but damn, I see why it did those numbers.
straight outta southside is the hottest track of this summer
8.5 rating. Minus 0.5 for the reworked version of "Party Ain't Over" (shouldve kept the original beat). Minus 0.5 for "Get Down" (sorry it isnt a good track even if Swiss produced it). Minus 0.5 for "Rider pt. 2" (cause theres no room for a vocoder on a G-unit record). But, props for "I Don't Wanna Talk About It" with verses by Banks and Yayo.
My advice, burn your own version of T.O.S., include the original "Party Ain't Over", and nix the new one, plus put "Sunroof Open" "Respect the Shooter" and ur all good...
jus in Nas - Untitled is a classic beats da hell out of this album!
Man I can't believe that someone said this album is better than Beg For Mercy out of his mind..This shit is okay....Banks is the best one left in this group & he will be the next to go....It's way to many G-Unit dick riders around this shit Niggaz is saying Yaho got better his verse on I like The Way She Do It= Horrible sounds like something Jermaine Dupri would spit the album is overrated just because it's the Unit its just an Okay Album
dis is da best album of da year so far if ur a gansgta rap fan dis is it man t.i. luda n jeezy album im waitin on em 2 but da carter 3 was overated hard tek it in yo only song i like of it is Mr.carter
