Lil' Flip

Music career

The Leprechaun

The Leprechaun is the first album released independently from Houston rapper Lil' Flip. The album quickly gained national attention and spawned the hit single "I Can Do That". The album sold over 200,000 copies regionally and gained attention from Def Jam South, A & R, and well-known Houston rapper Scarface. The Source judged this album one of the most popular independent releases to date. Fellow rapper T.I. criticised Lil Flip for wearing a Leprechaun outfit during their high-profile feud.

Undaground Legend

Undaground Legend is a second album by rapper Lil' Flip, his first nationally released album, which included the hit single "The Way We Ball" and a remix to his hit "I Can Do That". It was certified Platinum even though it didn't get much promotion from Loud Records. In the hip-hop documentary Beef 3, during the segment focusing on Lil' Flip's beef with rapper T.I., Flip claims that T.I. copied the title of his album Urban Legend from this album.

U Gotta Feel Me

U Gotta Feel Me is Lil' Flip's third album is on Sony Records. This album was more commercial and featured Ludacris, Three 6 Mafia, and others. The album debuted at Number #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and Number #3 on the Hip-Hop/R & B charts. It quickly became a crossover success with the Billboard Hot 100 Top 20 single "Game Over". The single used the Namco Pac-Man beat and the video showed Lil' Flip getting a tattoo while rapping to the single. The single reached Number #8 on the hip-hop charts and became an instant success for Lil' Flip. His follow-up single, the lover's anthem "Sunshine" featuring newcomer Lea, it became the second single on Lil' Flip's album and went to Number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It gained numerous requests on MTV and BET. The album was later Chopped & Screwed by Paul Wall. The album sold over 2 million copies in the U.S.

This was the last album Lil Flip released on Sony Records.

I Need Mine

I Need Mine is the 4th full-length studio album by Houston rapper Lil' Flip. It was released on March 27, 2007.

The album was leaked on July 14, 2006 by Columbia Records, causing Flip to decide to record new songs with J. Steve from PKY for the album. The official released album had sixteen tracks that were on the leaked version and twenty-one which were not on the leaked version. The only songs that didn't make it to the re-release are "Da Gudda" and "What U Know".

The album features appearances from Mike Jones, Lyfe Jennings, Big Pokey, Lil' Keke, Nate Dogg, and Mannie Fresh, among others.

Following its release, I Need Mine debuted at number 14 on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling about 44,000 copies in its first week.

Ventures

Clover G Records

Flip runs his own record label, Clover G Records. Besides Flip, artists signed to the label include Da Black Al Capone, BG Duke, Wil-lean the Chemist, Kingpin Skinny Pimp (formerly of Three 6 Mafia), Still Dirty (the first West Coast artist on the label), Tha Essay Potna and Sqad Up (formerly on Young Money Entertainment).

Beverages

Flip has his own golden liquor brand, Lucky Nites, which is a blend of pineapple juice, amaretto, and premium vodka.

Television

Flip also has his own Youtube channel named CloverG TV , which shows him performing, freestyling, and even making records. He is also working on a reality show called The American Rapper, where he will train several rappers, and will teach them not only how to rap, but also how to carry themselves across in public media. The winner will receive a two-album deal with Clover G Records, a Clover G chain, and a cash prize.

Controversy

T.I.

Lil' Flip was also engaged in a high-profile battle with Atlanta rapper T.I., who heard that Flip insulted him onstage at a concert in Atlanta while he was incarcerated. T.I. believed that Flip mocked his claim as the "King of the South", but Lil' Flip denied the accusation. Apparently, T.I. only learned of the alleged insult through a friend of T.I.'s girlfriend. T.I. even said he had FLIP on tape insulting him but has yet to release a tape FLIP said T.I. is lying he stated that if T.I. has a tape why haven't he shown it to anyone why haven't he put it on the internet because the tape doesn't exist FLIP says FLIP stated the reason why the beef started was because T.I. had a verse for FLIP mega hit "game over" FLIP said to T.I. no thank you but it's already done after that T.I. got locked up heard from word of mouth that FLIP dissed him at a concert T.I. got out of jail and instead of approaching FLIP like a man to address the situation he went by what other people were saying which FLIP includes was a publicity stunt The two released numerous disses on mixtapes and on the radio, including T.I.'s "99 Problems (But Lil' Flip Ain't One)" over the beat of the similarly titled Jay-Z and FLIP released a harsh freestyle on Fat Joes instrumental lean back which he accuses T.I. of being a snitch and many other things FLIP also released KING OF THE SOUTH a mixtape dissing T.I. that features his self and another texas icon zro the mixtape became a huge hit which many believe was some of FLIPS best work T.I. crashed a concert in Atlanta and distributed posters featuring Lil' Flip wearing his leprechaun suit (from his debut album), which Flip countered by doing a show and digitally imposing T.I.'s head on an emaciated Ethiopian's body. The dispute came to a head when T.I. shot a video in Lil' Flip's neighborhood in Houston. According to Allhiphop.com, T.I. was on a Houston radio station talking about the situation between him and Lil' Flip, and during the visit he tried to expose FLIP for being a non cloverland resident little did T.I. know FLIP was there while T.I. was associating with other cloverland natives he and his entourage walked to a burger spot little did T.I. know FLIP was right behind him FLIP got out of his car and confronted T.I. FLIP took a swing at T.I. and sources from people who where there and FLIP's crew said that T.I. ran from FLIP after that a member from FLIP's crew the clover g's da black alcapone caught T.I. and punched him and other locals started stomping T.I. shots was fired and everyone scattered the next day T.I. did a phone interview on Dallas 9.79 the beat saying the opposite T.I. said FLIP hid behind the car FLIP denied does claims T.I. later went on saying he had a video showing that also FLIP went on saying well once again he said he has the tape then why don't he show it you know why because that's not what happened he didn't think i was going to be there and well you know the rest The feud has since been resolved behind closed doors thanks to Rap-A-Lot Records CEO J. Prince. Some speculative lingering hostility remains based on a variety of interviews since the conflict was defused. There is a video on the internet of eye-witnesses that say they saw the fight.

Pimp C

Pimp C commented on Lil' Flip and Mike Jones' jewelry. "Them big ol' plates they be wearing that look like dinner plates? Them diamonds are monkey. You need to take that monkey sh-- back cause you embarrassing us." Since then Lil Flip said in an interview "I respect Pimp C opinion , and I have no problem at what he said". And lately , Pimp C gave a shout out to Flip on Rap City , and said there wasn't any beef.

Arrest

Lil' Flip was arrested in his hometown on Saturday in connection with a credit card scam. According to the Houston Chronicle, the rapper is accused of purchasing a $671.00 Southwest Airlines ticket from Houston to Baltimore on June 8 over the phone about an hour before the flight was scheduled to take off. The ticket was purchased with the credit card of a man named Jordan Salinger, who informed authorities that he did not authorize the purchase. .

However, after an investigation proved that a South Carolina man (who Flip thought was part of a legitimate travel agency) purchased the ticket, a grand jury decided not to press any charges against him.
