Many hip hop fans may not of known who UGK was on a mainstream level, hence the name Under Ground Kingz. Howevever, being featured on Jay Z’s smash hit, “Big Pimpin” in 2000, and other commercial hits with TI, and Three Six Mafia changed all that as they are no longer confined to the underground.
In a recent interview with SOHH, Bun B spoke about the groups delayed album , rocking mics at barbecues, and the message in their music.
“The game is chess, not checkers and that the timing is just now right for the album to be revealed.” “It was all in the presentation. People have been waiting for a long time for this album and they deserve a project that is properly promoted and marketed like it should be. The label is just now being able to appreciate the type of movement that UGK is and if we had dropped it any earlier than now, we wouldn’t have gotten a song or video like ‘International Players’ out.”
Bun B also revealed that the the double album, which is slated to hit shelves on August 7, will boast the usual UGK sound, and will feature an all-star line up of collaborators including Rick Ross, Scarface, Three 6 Mafia, Slim Thug, Lil Jon, Akon, Mannie Fresh, Swizz Beatz and Marley Marl, among others.
On the upcoming album, Bun B says UGK has yet to put out it’s best material, he does feel that this particular album will be well worth the wait for both die hard fans and new converts. He commented,
“You’re going to have things to think about, shit to talk about with your niggas and look at certain things a different way with this album. It’s reflective of our experiences and I’m going to talk about that like, Yeah, you in these streets but it’s consequences to it and how it relates to God. UGK would never tell nobody not to hustle because for some niggas that’s all they got. But you can’t ask God to help you while you out here hustling – yet you still want him to be on your side.”
Bun continues on saying, “It’s a f…ed up balance that street niggas go through that nobody touches on, and shit that they go through, we talk about that because it’s not just about the club and spending money all the time. There’s more going on in the world than that… and that’s what this album is representative of.”
For fans who can’t wait for the album to drop, Bun stated the duo will be performing a lot of the album’s new material at select dates on the Rock The Bells tour and Zune sponsored “Live At The BBQ” concert series. Bun was asked on why it was important for the group to participate in the event, and explained,
“We wanted to bring music back to the people in a personal sense and tt was something I wanted to be a part of because UGK has always been about making personal connections with our fans. The BBQ is kind of like just hanging out in the park like it used to be, and I’m about that.”

I'm gettin' this. UGK? Are you serious? Pimp C and Bun B are some trill niggas....I fucks with 'em!
What does it mean to be a "trill nigga"? Please explain. I'm from Camden, NJ so I am not familiar with the Houston slang, well I don't know where in TX they're from; so, I'll say that I am not familiar with the Texas lingo...
U kno Candy Paint, slabs, trill, Screwed and chopped, trill, Drank lmao.........
Trill - (tryll) - a meaning related to the words True/Real, but in a southern term related from the state of Texas meaning beyond those words. Trill is more dedicated to being down and never faking anything. You down for whatever. You a paid nigga in the since of riding clean of any kind. You get respect in the streets and your hood is your love. You also believe in holding anything you love in also being a MAN. Trill nigga in example: Khujo Goodie...terrible accident which cause him to have his leg cut off. Through blessings of God, he appreciate life and still being here. He still standing like Tony Montana...not dead though. THATS A TRILL NIGGA!

Bun B is sweet hope this album will be good
charismatic all the groups you named is from New York. Thats whats Im talkin bout, you niggas from New York don't believe rap can live outside New York. Wu Tang? The Firm? Boot Camp Click? Nigga Please, if you don't have a open mind and realize that niggas all over don't live the same lifestyle as niggas from New York do then you a ignorant bitch. All the niggas you named is whack.
Well, Smart Guy, Jazzy & Will ARE FROM PHILLY and my dude Redman is from Newark, Brick City, New Jersey... There4, we'll ASSume that everyone I named is NOT from New York.
Oh yeah, AND the LEGENDS, the FUGEES, are from NEWARK/EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY.
ok half those groups charismatic nemed are not to gether anymore specifically 10 7 6 4 and 1 the wu half ass together fugees holla they back cnn still aint dropped (i'm waitng) m deep aint been hot since shook ones and the firm never really popped and did you really put boot camp click and jazzy jeff and fresh prince....cut it out i see you were feeling a little bias towards the east coast though the last three 5 an #1 are the only legit great groups on that list just know UGK been in the game longer or as long as all those groups and still goin hard even jigga wanted them on his album
I HAVE to defend Will and Jazzy...
JAZZY JEFF AND THE FRESH PRINCE are LEGENDS...
They were ON TOP of hip-hop when hip-hop was FUN! It was okay to dance and rock a party! That's what hip-hop was back in the day... dressin' fresh, gettin' honeys, and ROCKIN A PARTY!
