Warner Bidding $25 Million For Death Row Catalog, Beastie Boy To Open Indie Film Company
by REIGN
WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 6, 2008
Out of 18 bidders competing for the rights to the Death Row music catalog, Warner Music Group is at the top with a whopping $25 Million bid. The Death Row catalog has been on the market since the former head, Suge Knight, filed for bankruptcy in 2006. The reason it has taken this long is because there were still claims of owed monies by Dr. Dre and Afeni Shakur. Dre is still in the process of collecting royalty payments owed to him for his 1992 album The Chronic, while Afeni—mother of slain rapper Tupac Shakur—is trying to determine who owns the rights to unreleased material recorded by her son. This
uncertainty over what assets Death Row still controls has turned off
prospective buyers. Warner will only go through with the purchase if
these assets are included in the catalog. Other bidding companies will have until April of this year to outbid Warner's offer.
Adam Youch, also known as MCA from the legendary Beastie Boys, has ventured into the independent film world. The new film company, Oscilloscope Pictures, is set to be run by former ThinkFilm vice president, David Fenkel. Yauch and Fenkel plan to acquire narrative and documentary features
from festivals for release in the U.S. and provide funds to complete
and release unfinished films. The pair, who worked on Yauch's Beastie Boys documentary, "Awesome! I Fuckin'
Shot That!", at ThinkFilm, will complete all post-production and
marketing work from OL's downtown Manhattan production space. Fenkel's
fellow ThinkFilm alumni Dan Berger is joining them in the venture. The first theatrical release, which is set to be announced next month, will hit theaters by the summer.

Nothing really big here....
Damn they still stressing out Ms Shakur, the world is a sad place sometimes.
don't be fooled...that woman is a hustla...she's eating with or without the material...she just tryna make more off of her son's fame
while Afeni—mother of slain rapper Tupac Shakur—is trying to determine who owns the rights to unreleased material recorded by her son.
SHE SHOULD GET IT
This is a sad sight, it proves once again everything that goes up, must come down. Death Row was the hardest feared Record Label in my opinion. Niggaz got stomped hard if you crossed their path. The artist line up was crazy, damn,…Now fast-forward to 08, the catalogues are being auctioned? Damn.
Any way as far as PAC unreleased material is concern, the should give it to Ms Shakur. Yes Pac was signed to the ROW, but what proof they have he would release those tracks under the Death ROW umbrella.
thats cause niggas dont keep they business in order..
dam shits crazy
mayn i know dude is not alive but come on more unreleased tracks,i know dude some where chillin with bin laden u feel me
Death Row is dead. Hmmm didn't dat sound ironic. Anyways who cares about death row.
some deathrow artist were hot lie pac and snoop
but its sad that this label has brought so much controversy so im kind of glad this label is gone
all yall are fags
This is bullshit nigga let PAC rest in peace..........
Well wtf??!! Why would anyone want to have the Death Row catalouge??? There've been more Pac releases since his death, than there were when he was alive...Let Pac rest already!!! Dre still tryin to get paid from '92?? Someone should've told him broke ass businessmen can't pay. Besides he done have enough cheese from 50, Nas, Jay, and the Game for the production work he's already done for them. did I mention he introduced the world to King Mathers..Top 5 MC?? He's paid in full. Release DETOX!!! Fuck the Row!!!!!!!

this is some sad ish =. She deserves it
it's sad that death row's legacy will be more about controversy and bullshit than the actual classic material they released. if i was dr. dre, i would buy the catalog myself and handle that business. or i would get with snoop, daz, kurupt and afeni and purchase it collectively. but that that probably wouldnt work.
