According to Billboard.com, rapper Remy Ma pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and other counts today (July 15) in the shooting of a woman in a trendy Manhattan neighborhood. At the rapper’s arraignment, a judge granted the prosecution’s request for bail to be set at $250,000. Martin was jailed while the judge reviewed her bail offer.Bronx rapper Remy Ma has turned herself into police custody after being sought for a shooting involving a childhood friend early Saturday morning.
According to authorities, Remy Ma, real name Remy Smith, shot childhood friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph twice in front of her SUV after exiting the trendy New York City night spot, The Pizza Bar.
Authorities said the two were celebrating a mutual friends birthday when the two had a dispute over $2,000. After having some drinks, Remy and her three men entourage left the night spot and got into a Cadillac Escalade.
According to reports, Barnes-Joseph walked outside and slid behind the wheel of her Nissan Maxima. About 10 minutes later, Remy Ma got out of the SUV, pulled open the driver’s side door of the Maxima and shot the woman twice in the midsection, police sources and witnesses said.
“Justice should be done. She had no right to do this to my child,” the mom said after her daughter got out of surgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital Manhattan.
Barnes-Joseph was conscious and in stable condition today, her relatives said.
Sasha Tcherevkoff, the owner of The Pizza Bar released a statement denying reports that a dispute, which allegedly lead to a violent shooting, started inside of the bar.
“We’ve determined that no physical or verbal altercation whatsoever occurred inside Pizza Bar,” Tcherevkoff said in a statement released today (July 14). “As far as we can determine the entire group behaved well, enjoyed themselves and there was no incident throughout the evening.
We have been told by the officials close to the investigation that the genesis, the start of this altercation, happened outside of our establishment on 8th Avenue and 14th Street and had no connection whatsoever to Pizza Bar.”
Remy has officially been charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. No bail was set at the time of the booking.
