Jay-z’s Snoopy track and Jay’s Big pimpin, Missy’s Rain, Ginuwine’s Pony, Aaliyah’s If Your Girl Only Knew, and Nelly Furtado’s Permiscuous Girl, all hits produced by Sensational hit maker Timbaland that we have grown to love. Or were they? An article was brought to Defsounds attention recently where the VA native was criticized for jacking for beats. The track is titled “DO IT” currently on Nelly Furtado’s latest cd entitled “LOOSE”. The track is blatenly stolen says Tempest who actually laid the original sound. The sound was originally created in 2000 during a competition. When asked why havent legal procedures begun Tempest replied “Its not worth it”. Although he has concrete evidence and obvious proof he ensures us that the procedure takes premium effort, countless amounts of time, and most importantly financial backing, in which he also ensures us he has none of. He also reminds of how difficult the task will be in going against a major corporation such as Geffen. So what does Tempest due instead of taking legal actions? The answer is Nothing….except be bitter, and watch Timbo make millions, and make cameos in a plethora of videos.
Now of course we are not saying this to discredit all of Timbo’s success or to say that Timbo stole the majority of his hits, but you have to admit with this sound bit and the evidence to back it its hard to ignore. How creditable is the source you ask? Im not really sure but i think the sound clips speak for themselves. In the overall scheme of things is this really going to effect Timbo’s success? Probably not, but we figured it would raise an eyebrow with our readers as it did ours.

Note From the Editor: This video was posted in the comments, it sheds some more light on exactly what Timbaland is being accused of.
Well...if he didnt give credit where credit is due...than he loses respect from me. But many producers have sampled from one time or another...so its really no that big of a deal, unless he passes it off as his own..
i read the responses and i'm not understanding how you all can't see clearly timbo just didn't sample someones music. he took it as his own and didn't pay for it. if you play the midi and the timbo snippet at the same time you can clearly hear it is a rip. tim owes money to that guy bc he is making millions.
Damn, you can actually here the Tempest sample in the background of the Nelly song....Damn, say it aint so homie!! thats the problem with up and coming producers who go to these events and even online, you dont know whos listenin and downloadin yo shit....sorry Tempest but looks like you got fucked...
This ain't no big deal,Have you ever heard the original sample off biggies who shot ya?same thing,no difference. This happens all the time, maybe he couldn't get the info on who made it,that all.Far as I'm concerned u supposed to sample or it ain't hip hop. one.
Reemix and Ghova1850. It's a MOD that originally took part to a oldskool music competition at demoparty called "assembly". These songs are supposed to sound like "sega" or better to say C64 (or some other _old_ computer).
You can get the original version in mod format from this site ftp://ftp.scene.org/pub/parties/2000/assembly00/oldskool/music/acid_jaz.zip.
Daddylonglocks, The sample off of Biggie's Who Shot Ya? was used with permission between the record label and original producer. There is nothing illegal or wrong about that.
In this case, Tempest's work was not simply sampled. The Commodore 64 version of Tempest's song made for a demoparty on an Amiga in 2000 was blatantly copied and used as the basis of Timbaland's song. Timbaland is taking credit for Tempest's work. Tempest has intellectual rights to the song and without his consent, it is against international copyright law to make money off of someone elses work without their explicit permission.
this ain't shit...not a big deal really...it sounds very similar but Tim changed it enough to where you can't really discredit him...he still put his twist on it...now, if Tempestt was smart he would have the copyrights for his beats before he submits them...and his shit did sound he made on an oldass casio.
Many of you guys have several misconceptions about this matter. And the news post doesn't state everything. I'll clear up a few things:
-The name of tempest's track is actually acidjazzed evening
-The track is a mod (as someone already stated), not a midi, search the internet for more info on the file formats if you're interested
-It wasn't made on an "oldass Casio", but a PC or an Amiga or something else running a tracker
-He does have the copyrights for his composition, he would even if he had made it a "wack ass midi song"
-It wasn't actually the original acidjazzed evening that was sampled, but a SID (another music file format) cover of it made by Glenn Rune Gallefoss
-Timbaland did not "put his twist" on the parts he stole: they were directly sampled except for the bassline which was changed a little
yo what the fuck kind of lame shit is that. so what if he samples acid loops thats what they are for, so people can sample from. i am a producer i sample anything that sounds good, and i make good money for it. Sony acid put that shit out for producers to use. it aint jackin its being creative.
I seriously don't know why I bother replying here. I'm trying to patch infinite gaps of ignorance with tiny bits of plaster.
That loop wasn't put out as an acid jazz loop. I assume you saw the waveform in the videos and it reminded you of Sony's ACID or a similar program. ACID isn't the only program that can handle loops. Some producer we have here.
I quote a certain aaron hayes: "DO THE RESEARCH>........."
wow, one beat and you guys are on him, discrediting him as a producer.
he should have to pay for the revenue off of that song
don't tell me all his other ones are jacked, that would be fucked up and plain wrong, you guys seem to jump on all his shit just because he was unethical in one. he's still a great producer.
veryone who can not clearly see that Tempest got the shizz end of the stick is a complete moron. Temptest is a great mod maker and deserves to be seen as so. If any of you "whack gizzie honkies" actully had some sort of brain matter up in the "gizzie smack whack" head up there you would understand this. Start talkin like people with some intelligence and not like some 12 year olds who learn all of their vocabulary from MTV, which you probably are.. lets see any of you make a track as bouncin as Temptest.. losers..
Yufi, you're about as ignorant as the people you're commenting about for saying what you just said. I'm not even going to get started on that. Anyways, all I have to say is that there is an unusual trend of people claiming that their work is being jacked over the past year. In Timbaland's case, I will have to agree that he undoubtly sampled that beat. So who really cares? Timbaland has been around for how many years, and you mean to tell me that he stole every single beat he has ever produced? Until you show me sveral rap or r & b beat that he has stolen, you can't discredit anything about his career. How many hip hop/r & b fans listen to techno? ase closed. I think Timbaland should pay The Tempest just so every one can stop crying and take their dick from between thier legs and get a life. Timbaland is a SuperProducer back then, now, and forever no matter how much people cry, whine and sue, so get a life and stop crying like some little ass school girls
Unbelievable, you people really need to get some perspective. The way people here seem to argue seems pretty retarded. For all of you claiming to be a producer and think to know how the music industry works I have one suggestion for you. Grow up and get real. You wouldn't even fool my grandmother when saying that. (Aaron Hayes???)
As far as I am concerned Hip Hop lost all it's cred in the early nineties and has never been able to recover since. This is just another piece of evidence to show that the majority of Hip Hop producers out there severely lack skill when it comes to producing orignal tracks.
WHAt Ever dude probaly made a midi afterwords an tryed to say he made tha beat come on dude stop lyin an learn how to get a copyright but i think he is jus tryin to get some fame
I return to this page and I see that you people are still fucking idiots.
bigredDAredbeam: For fuck's sake, he did not make a midi. You are a complete moron. If you, and many other people here, knew ANYTHING about this case, ANYTHING about the technology used to create the original melody, or ANYTHING distantly related to music, you would understand that it was directly sampled.
He did not make the song afterwards. There are witnesses and proof that tempest's song was released much earlier.
He does own the copyright. He does own the copyright. He does own the copyright. Did you understand? If not, read again. You are a fucking ignorant turd. If a bunch of you idiots suddenly died, the average IQ of the world would go up by 30.
Help yourselves and help others by learning to read and understand text, and write aswell.
ALL PRODUCERS SAMPLE.....IT STILL A CREATIVE MIND TO MAKE THAT BEAT WHAT THE FINISH PRODUCT IS. ITS TAKES A MASTER MIND TO LISTEN THE ORIGINAL TEMPEST JAZZ TRACK AND "OH I CAN MAKE THIS A HOT TRACK"....STOP IT LOL
