The arrest and indictment has led the rapper to hire additional lawyers creating an all-star legal team as he prepares for his bond hearing tomorrow for these charges.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, in addition to his original lawyers Steve Sadow and Dwight Thomas, T.I. has also added high powered attorney’s Ed Garland and Don Samuel to the defense team.
[Sadow] and I have known each other a very long time, and both my partner [Samuel] and I have worked together with him on many cases,” Garland told the AJC.
T.I. was initially represented by Dwight Thomas and Steve Sadow. The rapper will now have all four lawyers backing him.
T.I. was arrested at a shopping center parking lot in midtown Atlanta on Saturday (October 13) while trying to purchase a machine gun and two silencers from his bodyguard.
During the arrest, his Atlanta home was searched and six guns were found.
T.I. would be denied bond on Monday (October 17) by a federal magistrate who ordered that the Atlanta bred rapper should remain in custody until a hearing on Friday (October 19), where he will determine whether T.I. will be released on bond until his trial.
The fact that the T.I. has a prior crack-conviction felony will make it difficult for his defense team to win a bond for him. Federal prosecutors want to keep the rapper detained until the beginning of his trial, which could be months away.
If convicted, he faces five or more years behind bars.

ATLANTA — Rap singer T.I. is expected to remain in jail at least one more week while officials settle several bond-related questions, including who would monitor the musician at his home while he awaits trial on weapons charges.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Alan Baverman said Friday he will reserve his ruling on the singer’s bond request until a home monitor can be approved by the court, pretrial services officials and prosecutors.
Baverman also directed that bond for T.I. whose real name is Clifford Harris, would have to $2 million cash, plus the equity in whatever property Harris owns.
Defense lawyer Ed Garland had asked Baverman to release the music star on $2.2 million bond and allow him to have monitored home confinement while he awaits trial.
Prosecutors countered that because of Harris’ criminal history and because he was arrested while trying to buy machine guns, he poses flight risk and danger to community.
Baverman said he did not believe that the government had met its burden by showing by “clear and convincing evidence” that Harris is dangerous.
But Baverman also said he was not satisfied with the conditions of release proposed by Harris’ defense.
He called Harris “an exceptionally gifted and talented musician,” and also cited his generosity to poor people.
Baverman added that he was troubled by Harris’ alleged conduct on Oct. 13.
“I’m really, really concerned about that sort of dichotomy,” Baverman said. “On the day that was probably the most important of his professional career, he shows up at a gun deal to buy machine guns and silencers.”
Harris was indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday on weapons charges, including possession of machine guns.
His indictment followed his arrest on Saturday — hours before he was to receive two awards at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta — for allegedly possessing unregistered machine guns and silencers and of being a convicted felon in possession of firearms.

Defense lawyer Ed Garland had proposed that Harris, would have to submit to electronic monitoring. Only those on a preapproved list of visitors would be able to enter the home. Harris would surrender his passport and his right to drive, and would submit to random searches of the home and random drug screening.
Several record company executives, including some from Atlantic Records, were seated in the courtroom. Officials said they were prepared to offer signature bond on Harris’ behalf in excess of $1 million.
Harris grew up poor in Atlanta’s Bankhead neighborhood, and was selling crack by the time he was a teenager. After years of hustling to launch his rap career, recording demos and flying back and forth to New York shopping for a record deal, his first taste of success came with his 2003 album, “Trap Muzik.” But the following year, warrants were issued for his arrest on probation violations for a drug conviction and was sentenced to three years behind bars.
