The backlash of this incident falls on the shoulders of the Student Activities and Facilities officials, whom, even against Duke Union officials wishes, paid T.I in full for the lackluster show beforehand. “We’ll let [T.I.’s agency] know our serious concerns about what transpired at the concert,” OSAF Director Chris Roby said. “I’m not an attorney, but I have the sense that to litigate would cost more than what we would get back.” Though Roby has claimed that they will not be taking legal action, he is using this event as an opportunity to to reorganize things with other organizations, along with OSAF. He had since spoken to Union President Katelyn Donnelly, with the final decision being to avoid any legal trouble.
“T.I. has the largest agent in the country,” Donnelly said. “If we were to continue to push for legal action, we could damage our relationship and ability to bring performers to Duke in the future.” “We’d make it much more explicit in the contract about time limits we place on the artists and have a conversation before the show about what our expectations are,”.” I feel that T.I. really disrespected us, our time and our money,” she said. “I’m just as angry as they are and wanted something to be resolved from this.”
