According to reports made by Newsday, yesterday (Feb 9) Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff was sentenced by a Brooklyn Federal jury to life in prison without parole for setting up the murders of two men in 2001.
McGriff waited deliberation after last week’s ruling which found him guilty of paying assasins to kill rapper Eric “E Money Bags” Smith and Troy Singleton in July of 2001. The assasinations according to court documents occured when Supreme seeked revenge on both men after rapper E Money Bags allegedly assaulted Murder Inc boss Irv Gotti and for the murder of Colbert “Black Just” Johnson.
David Ruhnke, one of McGriff’s defensive attorneys expressed minor relief to the jury’s decision of life in prison as opposed to the death penalty stating “The client feels relieved, and we are relieved that we got to death’s door and not have it open”. According to the jurors written statements on their verdict form there were many reasons why they choose not to go with the death penalty. One being Smith and Singleton’s involvement in dangerous and illegal activities “contributed to their unfortunate deaths”. Another being many jurors believed that McGriff seriously suspected that “the victims and others were out to kill him”.
