Bronx rapper Remy Ma, real name Remy Smith, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for shooting longtime pal Makeda Barnes-Joseph in the stomach outside of a New York City hotspot.
The 26-year old rapper was facing up to 25 years behind bars for assault, weapons possession, and coercion.
According to the Associated Press, Smith was teary-eyed as she heard the sentence. She says the shooting last summer was an accident; an appeal is planned.
After the sentencing, Smith's fiancee, Brooklyn rapper Papoose, lashed out against Joseph screaming "All you want is money!" in a hallway outside the court room.
"Lock me up! Lock me up!" he then shouted to court officers, who escorted him out of the courthouse.
Papoose was sanctioned by Rikers Island officials yesterday after he attempted to give Remy a skeleton key capable of opening handcuffs.
He was banned from visiting Remy for six months.
Remy Ma's lawyer, Ivan Fisher, denies that the key could be used to unlock handcuffs and says the two still plan to wed after the bride-to-be's transfer to an upstate prison.

Even with voluntary man they would have to prove that losing $2000 really fucked up Remy’s mental state and caused her to snap and shoot her friend but it’d have to be immediate, meaning she’d have to still be in that mental state and significant time couldnt have passed, then it become 2nd degree.
(still mainly in regards to cp killings…I’m dweilling on it, but only because i’m really pissed at NYPD right now).
They prolly would’ve found her NOT GUILTY.
Especially without the KEY witness/victim being able to testify. And NO i’m not saying that she should’ve killed the girl by any means… just saying that if she would’ve… well we all know that she would’ve most likely beat the case.

There’s really no case at all. No bystander or spectator would’ve willingly put themselves in the spotlight (thanx to that dumb ass hood rule of no-snitching…which by the way…is fuckin’ bullshit when it comes to MURDER as far as I’m concerened).
Which reduces the case down to just he say she say or “speculation”…maybe a misdemeanor. Something like “reckless driving”, disturbing the peace, destruction of public property etc etc. Without the witness… there would’ve been no case at all!
Which is why witnesses are always TARGETS in major cases.
Without their testimony… there’s not case!
4 yrs max for all of the misdemeanors…

I really doubt that they would’ve actually got on the stand had that girl died…
1) The whole “rat policy” the dumbasses in the hood have.
They would’ve been scared that somone would’ve done something to them or their family before the trial.
2) MONEY… I’m quite sure they would’ve kept their mouths shut for the right amount of money.
Without the victim…everything else falls apart.
Their would’ve been Reasonable Doubt.

42 Pa. C.S. §9712:
Visibly possessing a firearm or a replica of a
firearm during the commission of a crime of
violence. A crime of violence includes any
of the following offenses: murder of the
third degree; voluntary manslaughter;
aggravated assault (F1); rape; involuntary
deviate sexual intercourse; aggravated
indecent assault; incest; sexual assault; arson
(F1); kidnapping; burglary of a structure
adapter for overnight accommodations in
which at the time of the offense any person
is present; robbery (F1); robbery of a motor
vehicle; or an inchoate to murder or any of
the listed offenses. A minimum sentence of
five years must be imposed.
Now you see what she could’ve gotten. Aggravated assault is a felony that can be classed on many different levels. She shot the girl twice, pretty serious. She better be happy she only got 8 years. She could’ve been sentenced for a lot longer on just the assault charge (not counting the other charges). And I respect Pap for fighting for his lady, but you have to know how to fight some battles before you start causing problems. Aggression the way he showed only got him placed further away from her. File appeals, hire new attorneys, take the case to a different court. Don’t give them a reason to say that they where right. But best of luck to both of them. I hope it turns out better for them in the future. And for those who say it’s the system, you make your own choices in life. You mold yourself into the person that you want be. You can choose to let your environment influence you, or you can make yourself better and influence your environment. Product of my environment is only a weak man’s excuse for not making something of himself. We have to get better as people, instead of steadily endangering ourselves. Think before you act, and choose how to act knowing the consequences.
