After a debut album that she feels could have been much bigger, and was neglected by her label, rapper Remy Ma asked to be released shortly after “Theres Something About Remy” hit the shelves. She could not be freed immediately, due to label politics, and negotiations, but as of April 9th, she is out of that situation. Remy told Allhiphop.com about what it felt like to finally be moving on:
“I felt that I had out grown them I had been dealing with Joe and Steve since I was 18 years old,” “We no longer had the same goals. They’re used to me being ‘little’ Remy who wanted all the fly sneakers, a nice whip and the biggest chain you ever saw on a girl.”
Her career started after meeting the late Big Punisher, and him seeing her at battles. She caught his attention instantly. He then became her mentor, until his death, but she remained under Terror Squad under the guidance of Co-Founder Fat Joe.
Having had the most hype/buzz for a female Hip-Hop act in years, and with hits like “Conceited”, and “Whuteva”, her opening week sales only hit 75,000. “After ‘Whuteva’, ‘Conceited’ and ‘Feels So Good,’ I should’ve been outta here,” explained Remy. “To me they just didn’t have the same drive anymore. They’re getting older and they’re comfortable. Me on the other hand, I’m just maturing and I’m hungry and I’m in beast mode.I want so much,and I refuse to lose or settle. I paid my dues now it’s Remy time.”
“I’m sitting in meetings all day, everyday politicking my own label, with me being my first artist,” Remy Ma revealed. “I have so many other projects involving films, TV and endorsements, but most important is my album.”
Already working on her second album titled “PunisHer”, and readying her 1st single, the Ron Brown crafted “Fresh”, she also banded together with Shawnna, and Jacki-O to create a female supergroup. However, Shawnna has backed out of the proceedings, and they are currently looking for replacements. Remy offered her thoughts on the situation, saying:
“Shawnna being gone is news to me,” Remy Ma continued. “We love Shawnna and wish her the best in whatever she chooses to do. But we’re still recording,” Remy Ma said.
Remy has announced that female rappers Charli Baltimore, Lil’ Mo, Trina, and several others have already contributed to the project. She is very confident in their success, adding “Hopefully we can get some of the other women in the industry as well,” Remy Ma said. “I just want our category back in the Grammy’s so I can win that!”

Remy is one of the best rappers out there period. I was actually looking forward to hearing her Jackie-O ans Shawna rip shit. I think Shawna is the dopest female emcee I've ever heard. This chick can spit fast or slow and has some sick bars. I hope Remy ends up in a good space, but no matter how good she is she is trapped in a male dominated game that only sees her as a fill in, not a legitimate star.

To me remy can say what she wants 2 say but at the end of the day no label can push an album thats not good. I actually have her album and i've listened 2 it from beginning to end. In my opinion its not very good so rather than blaming other people she should look 2 improving the quality of her future albums cos if its anything like her first album she'll be lucky 2 get even 75,000 in first week sales.
