On some real spit... Why is it when an article is written on hip hop or about it, its by an outside party. Some personal that probaly loves a Flock of Seaguls (80's band reference) and then has to do a hip hop cram session to right an article. Why in the fuck doesnt Talib Kweli or Ras Kass get asked to right an article based on there real experience. This article is so out of context. What dod they do only listen to Young Jeezy and T.I. catalogs?

I say fuck this false bias article

PS. KEEP SUPPORTING REAL HIP HOP~

^^^^They always attack us because hip hop is predominantly black. Shit hasn't change Rock music references drugs n alcohol just as much as hip hop but its a predominantly white genre. Another reason is that we have guys like Lil Wayne who reference it in every song and Pimp C who passed due to an overdose. Not trying to come on some conspiracy shit but we draw the attention to ourselves.

i agree with frank.. exept that nobody, not even this guy, likes flock of seaguls lol... anyway fo-t please understand what you are saying before you say it. The term rock and roll does not mean grab your rock and roll... it was used by sailors hundreds of years ago. the first time it was used in music it was referring to black gospel music. And the first time it was used in what is now called rock and roll it was still way before the crack rock was invinted.. and saying hip-hop doesnt promote drugs... that is just ignorant.. of course it does, i mean it doesnt bother me, but it does promote it in many songs.. and for datdude you say that they ALWAYS target hip hop and thats not true... in the 60s and 70s when rock was the biggest form of music out, it was constantly scrutinized for referring to drugs.. now hip hop is the biggest form of music out now so its hip hops turn.. it will blow over eventually i think.. the media can only feed off one topic for so long

And they dont say cocaine and heroin are nice things but they say they sell it to get nice things which in turn ruins their whole block but its all good as long as they got their Phantom or Bentley... right? Lol... shit is fucked up but thats just how it is now dayz so dont listen if u dont like it... Wish rappers could be more creative tho and stop rappin bout their money and drugs...

Yeah true they do over saturate the rap game with drug dealing talk, but as soon as they stop. You would be saying damn they sold out and they are doing commercial rap. So as my folk TI says in Lifes Ups and Downs w/Jamie Fox "Its a catch 22 either you lose or lose". So it is what it is "Ride on to the Real and Death to the Fakers" Goodie Mobb'94!!! Peace Up

i mean no1 is forcing u listen 2 rap music...its a choice

but for real most rappers who have never had shit 2 do with drugs and rap about it are the problem...if it is real then it is cool and i wont mind listenin 2 it

no1 ever highlights the positive factors of hip-hop...it is alwayz negative shit

You can't generalize it and say rap is doing it. It has to be judge artist by artist. Some don't glorify that life and have a real message. Maybe instead of wasting time doing an artical like this maybe you should do more stories on the Lupe's or Nas's just to name a couple that actually rap about something.

to tell you they have a point, the creativity and the positivity is gone. you know why for the simple fact that most of these talent having motherfuckers can't do positive without looking corny and wack. that and a majority of the hip-hop audience was onfatuated more with the "real". real constitutes grimey street shit, the actictivities that that transpire in the street or the ugly truth. there's a bunch of ways to describe it, but the fact is we gravitated towards it. this is where coporate america comes into play, instead of expanding and diversifying, they do the lazy shit and follow the trends and the trend for a minute was the street shit. when their job was supposed to be balancing the shit out and keeping positive media out for whoever wants it at the time. the other thing is american parents are just as lazy, as i child you soak all this shit up and you decipher it {sorry if i didn't spell that word right} the parents don't keep their ears to the ground so of course they don't understand half the shit that's being said.

i'm not going to lie i'm listening to a young buck record right now, him talking the usual who he's gonna kill, nut there's room for positive entertaining music and movements.

p.s fuck jimmy iovene, fuck reebok, fuck universal vivendi, fuck them niggas for making that vitamin water,
fuck all them bitches for hoppin on 50's dick for money -they fucked yor kid up they sponsored that shit

it's some other people besides 50 i could blame, but he can take the shots right he's 50

I STAY HATIN

1) yo on the real, drug abuse in lyrics are present in all forms of music; notably in alternative rock music. they just decided to target the rap promoters because they [for short] - would rather see the 'emo' america than the street smart one.

2) drug/alcohol abuse in lyrics have been present for quite some time and when specifically relating to rap, in most cases, have been used as a reflection of corruption in the ghettos of america; not as a way of life.

3) in my humble opinion, drug references in lyrics are the least of our worries here in 2008:
"why can't i kill the man who punched me, but its alright for you to blow up a whole country" - saigon

rap music back in the day was laid back, and they emceed about issues such as, trying to get out of poverty, and staying in school, and hoping they can live another 24, beat boxing, graffiti... now every rapper wants to be scarface and this super gangsta now and it makes you shake your head. don't get me wrong i bump [young jeezy] in the ride every once in a while but he raps about coke like he invented it. Man when will they stop pointing the finger at Hip-Hop, when there are movies that come out every week, with niggas killing each other, raping women, all kinds of evil shit. This pisses me off, nobody can name a rapper that says get up and go shoot up some herion. Naw niggas may say "get your lazy ass up and slang if you gotta" but ain't nobody telling the youth to use and abuse drugs. When will people realize that this is entertainment. Just like a movie. I've listend to Hip-Hop my whole life and I ain't never wanted to snort crack or even kill a nigga because of rap. I have a degree and work 2 jobs, and listen to rap all day.

Parents raise your kids and don't let rappers and T.V. Stars be your kids teachers. if you teach your child certain things, when he/she hears something that contradicts that, they are gonna use the knowledge that you instilled in them to make a decision. But if they don't have that knowledge than who else are they gonna listen too....

Man look a here.. These people gone attack every and anything its JUST MUSIC. Yeah rappers talk about salein' dope.." Go to the south side of Chicago and almost everybody is salein' DOPE" Most rappers rap about shit they seen, done, or no. Sorry are communitys are not that great we can't rap about positive things if we didn't grow up seeing positive things. I grew up around hustlers I never really hustled to the point of a ScarFace, but im the only one in my household that made it out of high school. Im about the only one in my family that don't sale dope and its probly way more familys out there like that. So who are these ppl to say what rap artist should rap about. If artist want to make a entire album about crack., smoking weed, killing kids, thats there free right to do so...if you don't like it, its your free right not to listen,. I love all music. Music is an exspression of one's self ,thoughts, and creativity. Lets band violent movies and video games and pretend that the world is a fucking peach. Then after we band all the bad things lets go kill people in 3rd world country's for oil and force are way of living upon differnt countrys. Then dress it up on CNN and call it freedom.

Marijuana shouldn't be illegal it has no more of a negative effect then alcohol and you can use it for medicinal purposes,
the other drugs it don't matter what be heard in songs people are still gonna know they are there
if you wanna stop drug influence stop movies with drugs in them stop letting publishers publish songs with drugs in them but it wont really matter people will still know they are there and where to get them everything will always be alright until the world ends and when that happens all this stuff won't matter, if your worried about peoples lives and how kids grow up we have a good educational system they know right from wrong just like a murder you what your doing and you know the consiquences so if you choose to do wrong only blame your self and ask for forgiveness, you can't blame where you get it from you gotta realize your to blame choosing to do it. Lil Wayne says fat sack and then a kid gets addicted to cocaine.
Thats similar if you a kid watched the matrix and the next day trys to dodge bullets. These influences give us choices and its our responsibility of ourselves as people to deal with the consiquences from the choice we make.

well there is truth in this article and it really cant be argued that almost every rap song that is aired on the radio or at least 25% of most rap albums have drug references in them. In some cases talking about selling drugs is a way to show that you are credible rap artist and have some "streetness."
