my take on the word is it should be allowed obviosuly. i wrote an essay in an english class explained very well why it should but to sum it up, when you ban something it becomes more wanted and lethal. look at drugs and other related shit. a common argument among black ppl who want it banned is its very disrespectful to our ancestors and takes away from our history (something along those lines). if u think about it we are reshaping the definition and why would you want the word to stand out in black history? what we should remember more about our ancestors is their civil rights movements. of course know about how we were treated but thats not important. when u dwell on how we were treated u get ignorant and start living in that mentality that o its because im black even over the stupidest things. instead of having that we should be more active in trying to get more rights and joining all of society. banning people from saying a word is just gonna further cause tension and keep us further away from peace in this country. im writing too much so fuck this topic. fuck the law. fuck dumass people. fuck the wolrd. fuck life. peace lol

Notorious, just to add 2 a specific comment you made, I feel like black people should be more worried about catching up financially. Yeah, they have a 400 year head start on us and OWN EVERYTHING. We are WAY behind. We are gettin' there, but you gotta think, black people just really started goin' 2 college in BULK in the 80s... So, technically, we've only been in the game, as a group, for comin' up on 40 years. Subtract that from 400 and we're still 360 years behind on the playin' field. Whomever controls the money, WHITE AMERICANS, and the government, WHITE AMERICANS, is in CONTROL. Only 3% of America is rich.... I heard it was 2% but I am not sure that 1 extra percent is too off. The rest of us 97% are workin' hard (ha, that's a GRACIOUS, GRACIOUS PERCENTAGE) to play our parts alongside each other in the workforce.

But, alas, we are STILL the minority. A. Because we kill each other off in record numbers. B. Not ENOUGH of us go 2 school or learn a skill. C. The ones of us who don't don't have rich family members to live off.

But, as a whole, we are doing better. We're learning trades, we're goin' to college, but we're still far behind. I, literally, know of only TWO college graduates (male) off the top of my head, from my age bracket in my hood growin' up. Me and my man, who lol, now lives in Texas. But I can name about a thousand dudes from my hood in my age bracket. And that's the point. Surrounding suburbs of Camden, NJ, on average, graduate a phenomonal 94% of it's students, yearly, while Camden graduates less than 1/2, and the same goes 4 most "hoods" in America. And, I know, I know... college isn't for everyone, but I'm not seeing people, in BULK, being too successful without that piece of paper.

Well... my stance on it is.... I make my own connotations(meanings) for the word.
It can be used as a term of endearment, such as "Charismatic is my nigga", or, in a derogatory fashion, such as: "These niggas always ruin a party".

It has so many simple uses. You can obviously gather that I am intelligent individual, but I reserve the negative uses of it for ignorance. Not just blacks, but general ignorance. Anyone can be a nigger to me. That's why it's in the dictionary: "Ignorant person".

As a black woman who hears the word everyday and understands its original meaning, the word is offensive. I understand those who use it as a term of endearment or as a regular part of speech because to them it doesn't have the same connotation as the original word. But, and you knew it was coming, the original definition still exists. If you think it doesn't, say the word around an elderly black person and watch their face cringe. If they don't cringe, its because the younger generations have used the word (nigger or nigga, however you want to say it) so much. I think its a good thing although its a shame we couldn't decide for ourselves as a people not to use the word.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and state that I actually UNDERSTAND why they want to BAN the word N I G G E R. I understand their feelings and their intentions with the ban...

The word NIGGER is one of the most used words in the English language (next to BITCH)...Period. By ALL races. Whites use it...not even in the derogatory sense (at least not all) but they use it just as we do now.

It's a word just like shit, damn, bitch, fuck, the, etc. etc.
It USED to be harmful and "controlling" because we took it that way and allowed ourselves to be offended by it. But now that WE use it so loosely and so often... it's lost all of it's "control" and "power". It's now just a mere word that describes a "NOUN".

This shit has been blown waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay outta proportion. The dictionary itself used to read the word NIGGER as meaning Simply "IGNORANT".

Well im Indian, the dot on forehead Indian, so i never use the word unless im actually rapping along to a song. I can honestly understand why NYC wants to ban it. I grew up in a very very white town and with rap growing the way it is, these morons think its ok to shout the word out every chance they get. I have absolutley no issue with black people using the word for their own use, i just don't think anybody else should (which in a way makes me a racist i guess). The repeated usage of the word has instilled it into peoples minds so i understand why New York wants to ban it, but people will argue racism and censorship. Thats why i don't think NYC should set a precedent like banning a word.
