Damn some of ya are on some next shit the whole purpose of the title is to grab you in and get you to actually listen to the audio. Would you really have listened if it said another nas interview about why hip hop is dead? Seeing as both of you quoted from the audio it seemed as if the title served its purpose.

Who cares if Nas messed up during his freestyle on Rap City yesterday....I saw it and it doesnt take away anything that hes accomplished in Hiphop....niggas are analyzing too much, niggas need to understand they will never find the perfect rapper with the most street cred who shot the most niggas and sold the most dope and roams the street with no security and stays in the hood with millions in his pocket.....(sarcasm??)...... i mean damn, Luda is nice but please he needs to do a lot more for Hiphop before anyone can start comparing or making comments.....

The tagline for this story is nothing but good old fashion American sensationalism, ofcoarse it's taken out of context, but that's what all main stream media outlets do, so why should defsounds be different? To the dude talking about Nas mess up in his freestyle, and luda doesn't,Nas spits superior more complicated lyrics, Luda spit more basic beginner type rhymes, ofcoarse the more complex Nas is going to have a few flobs now and then. The sad thing is, you would compare a lyrical genius like Nas, to a average rappers such as ludacris. When ludacris can write something like "one mic","New York State of Mind","made you look" or any of Nas lyrical masterpieces, then we can compare rappers.Ludacris should stick to rapping about hoes in the comedic style he came out with, because this whole Gangsta style thing he is trying to do now is a joke, and the "runaway love" track only show what little storytelling ability he has when it comes to more serious subject matters.

Evil_dre good point bout media and luda and nas.....but I wasn't saying any other media outlet is different, I jus spoke of defsounds cus that's what we all on right now......but far as nas and luda and 1 damn freestyle...u said it best....the complexity of nas lyrics compared to those of ludas does not even deserve conversation......lemme see some creativity like on rewind, or lyrical story telling on it aint hard to tell, or flat out lyrical talent like on the the joint where he rap as a gun...I forget the track name....nas is a great mc.....by the way I guess the headline didn't stir up any contreversy huh? We all comparing nas vs luda and them niccas is cool...lol....but I'm sure they didn't want that to happen...lol

Hip Hop is a lifestyle. We breathe and eat hip hop. You really don't know what it is. Anyway, are any of you getting paid by either Nas or Luda. I didn't think so. Stick to the script. 5000

What is hip hop, who is hip hop, where is hip hop? Why is Nas now the leading authority and voice on deciding what and who is hip hop, it’s a new day and the game has change. I don’t like a lot of songs on the radio, matter fact I try not to listen to the radio because of all the repetition. I am from the South, 843 all day, and I can’t help but feel an underline smoothly disguise undertone diss in this interview. I don’t know the history of hip hop who had the first mix tape or anything like that and guess what I don’t care. That’s not a knock to the history it’s just the truth, most of yall don’t so don’t front. If Rappers Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang is the first rap song that means rap is about just having fun, so they could have came down on people like Rakim for adding lyrics and a message in his rhymes. That’s stupid right, well so is this whole hip hop is dead thing Nas is pushing. I am no dummy this is great press to push his cd, but enough is enough.

Nas new cd is tight it didn’t need this to make it sell, yeah controversy sells but it also divides. A lot of us below the Mason-Dixon Line see this whole hip hop is dead movement as a diss towards us. We stay getting criticism about our lyrists, like all East Coast rappers are just so tight. Hip Hop is not dead because it’s a life style its in how you talk, your swagger, and what you identify with. I am black that does not make me an expert on all things black. I have a degree in political science that does not make me an authority on all things political. Nas is a great rapper but he is not a B-boy or a graffiti artist does that mean he is any less hip hop, no. There is a lot of lame rap coming out on all coast, most tight lyrists don’t get the shine they need because they don’t have the radio ready song so if hip hop is dying that’s the reason, so if people are so concern support your local underground hip hop movement help keep hip hop alive since its just so dead now. Funny though hip hop is dead and Nas and Jay are trying to save it by going on MTV and concern about album sells…lol

The whole interview flew over your head, your bias and insecurities from being from the south, closed your Whole mind to Understanding the Concept behind "Hip-Hop is Dead" your still stuck on the Title, open up your mind and OVASTAND. Jeezy did the same thing he jumped out the window soon as he heard the title, Dumb as Luda made a T-shirt doing some cross promo for Nas and he didn't even know it. LET'S NOT PUT WORDS IN LUDACRIS'S MOUTH...

ALOT OF YA'LL ARE MISSING THE POINT OF LUDACRIS'S SHIRT...

"HIP HOP LIVES IN THE SOUTH"

IT IS A TRUE STATEMENT...THAT BEING SAID, DON'T CRITICIZE LUDACRIS FOR SAYIN' IT

WHERE NAS LIVES IT MAY BE DEAD, WHERE LUDA LIVES HE'S LETTING YOU KNOW IT'S LIVE AND WELL

AT NO POINT DID LUDACRIS'S SHIRT SAY, "HIP HOP ONLY LIVES IN THE SOUTH"

AT NO POINT DID LUDACRIS SAY, "HIP HOP ONLY LIVES IN THE SOUTH"

IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT, HIS SHIRT WASN'T INCORRECT OR OFFENSIVE. HE DIDN'T DISS ANY OTHER REGION IN THE PROCESS

IF IT OFFENDED YOU OR YOU FOUND SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT, YOU REALLY NEED TO CHECK YOURSELF

AS FAR AS CROSS PROMOTION FOR NAS...SO WHAT, LUDA CROSS PROMOTES FOR EVERYBODY; NOT TO MENTION THEY'RE ON THE SAME LABEL ANYWAY

WAKE UP YA'LL. HIP HOP WILL ALWAYS BE IN THE PLACE WHERE WE ALLOW IT TO DO IT'S OWN THING AND NOT TRY TO CRITICIZE AND CONTROL IT.

Let me start this off with stating,no one said Nas was the "leading authority and voice on deciding what and who is hip hop".Nas made an album title "HipHop is dead",he put out a statement saying some dudes are "cooning and buffooning and bringing hiphop down"then a bunch of dudes from the south got mad and started talking shit about him.So if he didn't name any names, why would dudes from the south get mad.The southern rapper must have felt in there own hearts, they were bringing Hiphop down, because if they wasn't the case, the album title and the statement wouldn't have been a big deal to them.

And you have to love SouthKat's " don’t know the history of hip hop who had the first mix tape or anything like that and guess what I don’t care. That’s not a knock to the history it’s just the truth, most of yall don’t so don’t front"statement. Thanks for telling us what we all know about HipHop ,could you use your magical ability to read my girlfriends mind and tell me what she is thinking right now.A magical mind reading dude like you most work for FBI?

All Eastcoast Rapper aren't tight, but the ones who are, can't be touch by majority of rappers from other coasts. The south has the most trash rappers of any place in America, how can anyone defend a rapper with zero lyrical skills? How can anyone defend guys like three six mafia, who get on stage at award shows, and proceed to make all black people look bad with there inability to used the english language? You can try as you might to discredit this, but this is the truth.

SouthKat you already said you don't no the history of Hiphop, but I must still correct this statement"Hip Hop is not dead because it’s a life style its in how you talk, your swagger, and what you identify with".That is not hiphop, the way you talk and your swagger has nothing to do with hiphop,B-ballin,emceeing,graffiti writing,DJing, etc .And at it's earliest stage, you had to be the best at one of those position to get recognition. When it comes to rapper of old, the ones who took rapping serious tried to get better and more creative at it,that my dudes was evolution. The whole Sugar Hill Gang,Rakim topic is silly, seeing as "RappersDelight" wasn't the first HipHop song and there was dudes with different rhyming styles then Sugarhillgang at same time they were out,ColdCrush Brothers anyone.

To "livin proof", Ludacris is not taken seriously because he came out as a comedic rapper, now he's trying his best to sound gangsta. You can say Luda is a "great lyricist" until your head turns blue, but what are the amazing lyrical songs that gave you the impression he is great. And can you explain what is so great about the song "RUNAWAYLOVE",seeing as I don't like, thus making me ignorant (you might want to spell your name right before calling someone ignorant by the way). Also, ludacris HipHop lives in the south shirt was asinine,it only show he was ignorant and Nas really is a genius at this hiphop thing.

And to finish this off,the southern rappers can say they are not bringing HipHop down, but they sure are bringing cooning back. And if you want proof, look up "ghetto parties",white kids in a chicago highschool throught what was call a "ghetto party", the kids put fake gold teeth in there mouth,Pimp cups in there hands, afro and dredlock wigs, talk in dirty south lingo, and party to the same southern rappers that are play on you local radio station. One student even reportedly wore blackface, I know such ignorants shit has been going on for century, but when the eastcoast rappers where on,people were trying to imitate it,now they are using it as another way to mock us.Food for thought

Its Old Already Man. What part of the Concept Title Hip-Hop is DEAD that intrigues most of you to beleive just that? It's like the Name "The Dirty South", it's the cleanest place Ive ever been, No Smog, Green Grass, No Graffiti, No Pissed Filled Hallways. What's so Dirty about it? Im trying to sound like the People who are getting offended by Nas's Album title. See what Im SAYIN TABARI? How Ignorant it sounds for me to make contrast's about the Name "Dirty South" with how clean the South is. Is just as Dumb as you cats sound, letting your insecurities get the best of you when you Feel like Nas made sublims at the South in that Inter-View. Much less the Album Title Hip-Hop is DEAD. OVASTAND? Grasp the Depth of the Concept before you let your emotions make you feel Anti when you don't even know what your being Anti about. And when you still find out what the concept is your still in denial because of the way the words make your shallow minds think. This is funny.

Once again what is hip hop and who is lyrically tight is viewed threw east coast tented glasses. To clarify what I said earlier about hip hop history I stand by my statement a lot of people don’t know the history of the music and that’s the truth, I didn’t over generalize and say all the people don’t know the history. I feel moved to defend the south and I will be the first to admit a lot of artist out from the south are weak. Not only are they weak they lack creativity, but for groups like Three Six we don’t listen to them for the lyrics. Its club music it’s, riding round your hood music and music you play to get crunk. If I am out at a party or the club, I don’t care to hear Mos Def. That’s not because I think he is wack or lame it’s just the setting is wrong. That’s what a lot of people on the east seem to overlook, down here we look at things through how we grew up and our surroundings. I got friends from The Bay Area and they got their hyphy movement going ant it goes with how they live out there, I don’t view it through how we do things in the south.

This whole argument is pointless because many people are too stubborn to think about how others see this music and culture. Why is the south so up in arms about this and I am not speaking for the whole south, but from my view point it’s because we have always supported east coast artist. I had the wu tang cds, Lost Boys, Biggie, Jay Z, Nas and a rack of other east coast cds right next to my UGK, 8ball & MJG, T.I., Goodie Mobb, and Trick Daddy cds. I don’t compare Nas to Trick Daddy because they are giving me two different variations of rapping. Trick and Nas both been around for a while and both keep giving their personal flows. Three Six made songs that literally tore the club up; I am not listening to them for some deep philosophical verse. Learn to listen to things for what they are. I have respect for anyone who holds down where they are from and can’t still appreciate music or culture outside their own hood. Like I said before, which seem to fly over some heads, I dont claim to be an expert on any topic but I am willing to see things from another's point of view. To get back to the audio I see what Nas is saying and doing its not so complex that it flies over my head, I just don't like the gimmick he is using. And I said it before it was not until recently when Nas came at Jay and came out with Stillmatic that people jumped back onto the bandwagon. If this was a few years earlier and he said hip hop is dead people would of thought he was hating, my how time and a little come back can change people's tune.

lot of great points evil dre...yo wiz101 where u at kid, im waitin for you to drop something on these cats....Nas is not dissin no coast.. period he is stating that hip hop as a whole is having problems right now (for the 100th time) why must peeps have to get so touchy and ----? We all can coexist in hip hop, but the mentality of beef, division, subliminals, and all about the benjamins MUST CHANGE into unity, love for the culture, the art of mcing, djing, graffiti(yes i said it)b-boying (beat box too!) and putting knowledge in the music so that we can grow and get better. WORD. That's why Nas put that ill acapella freestyle at the end of his album to show and remind us what hip hop is in it's PUREST form! which is what we need to use as our foundation to build this culture called hip hop the way we know deep down inside that it should be built...PEACE

Well said deepru, whether or not Nas is sayin' Hip Hop is really dead. "If hip hop should die we die together, bodies in the morgue lie together, all together now" Look at it 4 it's content man, if Hip Hop was really dead then dat means we wouldn't b talkin about it, Nas wouldn't b puttin' out his new album. I really feel dat dis tension is puttin' back da fire in Hip Hop, I have personally felt dat Hip hop had gone stagnant, as far as where it came from. Nas needs 2 put his 2 sense, and if anybody doesn't like what he has 2 say, den by all fucken means, put sumthin' better, don't get salty and shit. Really, show 'em up, nuthin is 4 free in dis, and what's so bad about some fucken competition. If any1 is gettin' insulted it's only becuz they filled the characteristic of what he was talkin' about. It's not what ur called, it's what u answer 2. I want 2 hear deez cats fight 4 da "crown". I luv Hip Hop from every fucken region, I ain't a region hater, I luv dat it's in da South now, cuz there's some tight shit, but as a representative of Hip Hop and where it's at, den the rest of us will hold u up 2 it. Nas, saw dat it was gettin' weak, so he called it out, he's jus' speakin' his mind, and he can say whatever he wants 2 stir controversy 4 his album, but in the end, it's his album dat's gonna hafta prove where he wants 2 take Hip Hop. I do luv lyrical Hip Hop, but it can b more than that, and as there is a ying 2 every yang, less than that. I do believe dat certain "entertainers" have shamed Hip Hop, used Hip Hop, but I'm more disappointed in the people who ate up the shit they were giving us. Be selective, and demandin' of Hip Hop, and we'll c dis go 2 infinite possibilities. As to what these possibilities can b, I don't think it has 2 b seen through America's standards, but our own, our culture, Hip Hop Culture, and 2 me Hip Hop has always been about da struggle. So I'll leave y'all wit' dis " I don't look at a few token Latinos and black people in the public eye as some type of achievement for my people as a whole. Most of those successful individuals are sell-outs and house Negros...So in conclusion, I'm not gonna [support] anybody just 'cause they [succesful], they have to truly represent the community and represent what's good for all of us" -Immortal Technique

I am over the whole Hip Hop is dead campaign, if you cant find any artist you like then try listening to other music. I like all type of artists and depending on the mood I am in. If I wanna hear tight rhymes I will play a Nas, Mos Def, or Scarface. If I am getting ready to go out its Three Six, and if I am in my grinding zone its Jeezy, T.I., or Wayne. One thing I got to get off my chest people listening to a rapper is not like taking a pledge or oath you dont have to give your undying loyalty to them. I like Wayne and Jeezy but if another person doesn't I dont come at them with a bunch of lame disses cursing them out. I dont listen to G-Unit but I wont get at someone if they do. This is music plain and simple, I will listen to anybody song and if I like it I like it. There are some G Unit songs I like and some Jeezy and Wayne songs I dont like. Its just music we out arguing about another man's words, who we may never meet or even in our communities half the time. Lighten up have some fun this is just music lol.

Let me started off by addressing this statement, "Once again what is hip hop and who is lyrically tight is viewed threw east coast tented glasses.I'm from the EastCoast,HipHop was born in the south bronx which is in NYC, which last time I check, was on the EastCoast. So you will have to excuse me if I can't see HipHop through the eyes of the Sambo impressionist southern rap scene. Now I have a question for you,why is Lil Wayne being call the greatest rapper alive now by southern rap fans now that he has a EastCoast rapping style? That only shows me southerner are wearing the same eastcoast tented glasses, because no one was calling Lil Flames that when he was making the "block is hot".

Now on to this statement "To clarify what I said earlier about hip hop history I stand by my statement a lot of people don’t know the history of the music and that’s the truth, I didn’t over generalize and say all the people don’t know the history.Correction, you said "most of yall don’t so don’t front", most in such context would mean majority, and again, this statement is false because you have no way of knowing that.If you would like to prove your statement as truthful,I'm All ears.

Livin proof you really make me laugh, you say "ya'll are overanalyzing shit", but you came up with a entire theory on what the shirt really meant on the short statement of , "HIPHOP AIN'T DEAD IT LIVES IN THE SOUTH".And can you atleast type a sentence without misspelling a word before you call me ignorant son of a bitch, really I have to believe you can do better.

Man, u basically just typed out three paragraphs and didn't say shit...what was your point again? Who's talkin' about Lil' Wayne? There you go overanalyzing shit again...I never came up with a "theory" of what Luda's shirt meant, that's just what I figured it meant...am I wrong? I'm glad I can make u laugh though, it let's me know you're not taking shit too seriously...or maybe you are, fuck it...

Anywayz, we all know Hip-Hop started in The South Bronx, that's the East Coast, yeah yeah...we know...U guys don't have to remind us all the time. But keep in mind that Hip-Hop spreading to other regions made it what it is today. The West, Midwest and the South all have contributed to the many different characteristics of Hip-Hop...Listen to the New York artists of today, u can hear the influence of more than just New York in their styles and subject matter... So when u talk about Lil' Wayne having an "East Coast" flow...think of how many New yorkers have used a "Southern" flow themselves.

first off im from tha south and i got a 3.75 gpa in school and i do know tha history of hip hop so dont come at me wit no ignorant south bull
i am one of tha ones who think that Nas and a bunch of otha rappers are sayin that hip hop is dead because hip hop is in tha South
now i might agree that in tha jump off Southern hip hop did not come with tha quality lyricism that A tribe called Quest or Rakim or KRS or alot of tha other northern MC's had.
but for Nas to come out to say that hip-hop is dead now, while tha South is on top(by on top i mean tha South is sellin tha most) i dont think that is a coincedence

but NOW of all times i would have to disagree with anyone who would say that tha South is killin hip hop.
speccially when we have premier artists like Young Jeezy, TI, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Outkast and Young Buck all comin out with dynamic lyrics (that in my opinion could compete with any Northern Rapper) yup this cant be tru

in all honesty as a matter a fact if you really want to point a finger at killin hip hop i gotta say that tha Eastcoast Westcoast beef litterally did nearly KILL hip hop(with tha deaths of Biggie and Tupac)
and tha South took no part in that beef

with that i come to my next point wich is threw all this arguing and dissin tha South i think that if it is not stopped soon we might see hip hop history repeat itself with another regoinal beef wich in( if not prevent) artists could loose alot more than just their pride
also we are just tearing black ppll apart and by tryna say that jus because the region you are born in you are ignorant ( Don Mega G " Is it true that cats in the South are really slow?")
thas all i got

matta fact to Evil Dre "When ludacris can write something like "one mic","New York State of Mind","made you look" or any of Nas lyrical masterpieces, then we can compare rappers."
if you knew your Nas like you try to put out u would know that Luda held his own on tha Made you look Remix wit Nas and Jadakiss

plus u eva heard "war with god"(straight fire)

Ready to compare rappers??

E.Z_tha_don704,if you meant, luda held his own compare to the average rapper,I will agree. If you meant, he held his own on the "made you look remix" compare to Nas, you are crazy.

plus u eva heard "war with god"(straight fire)-This is a joke right?

"Livin Proof" I never came up with a "theory" of what Luda's shirt meant, that's just what I figured it meant...am I wrong? Then you came up with a theory, I guess I should have type the definition of theory for you "Livin Proof".And I can't say if you are wrong or if I'am right, because there is only one person who knows what Luda shirt meant, and that is him.I still can come of with an assumption base on the facts presented.

E.Z_tha_don704,the south is selling the most,T.I has the highest selling rap album of the year with only 1.5 million copies sold.Jay-Z has aready hit platinum and will pass T.I by the middle to end of january, if he had put his album out in september he would have the top selling album of the year. Now tell me is it a coincedence, HipHop has it lowest selling top album of the year, when the south is popping off.The southerner think they have Hiphop now base on radio and video play, because it's sure not on lyrical skills and records sales.

Ludacris has been out for the longest now and only sold 900,000 units(career is slowly coming to an end.

D4L when wood
Dem franchised boyz barely made gold
Rick Ross only sold 449,000(but he is gold because they ship out 500,000)
Slim Thug when double aluminum
Chamillionaire when platinum
Boyz in the hood when wood

That was eight southern acts and if you add up all their records sells, they wouldn't get near what 50 cent sold on "The Massecre" or "Get rich or die tryin".So the south's top rap acts combine ,couldn't sell more records than one rapper from The EastCoast did in 2005 (one album) and 2004(0ne album). If 50 Cent had of put out an album this year,Jay-Z and Nas had put there albums out early, and dudes like Jadakiss,Fabolous,Cassidy and Beanie Siegel weren't missing in action, know one would be talking about the south right now.And they would have easily destroyed the south in sells.

EVIL DRE. you got me wit some facts i aint gon lie

but one of the artists i mentioned was outkast who hav in their history have went platnum on 2 cds double platnum on 3 cds 4times platnum and even diamond
not to mention their 6 grammy awards
now i didnt do the math but im sure theirs not an eastcoast artist to do this single handedly yet

also i think we could bothe agree that due to bootlegging and mp3s you cannot go totally based on album sells because people dont always buy tha albums from a record store where it can be recorded as a unit purchased

so to get a tru glimpse of who is on top of hip-hop one would have to look at radio and video play as a source

thas all i got

Outkast was one of my favorite groups, and they did go diamond, but the CD that went diamond was that double album which I thought signal the end of Outkast. It was more Pop than HipHop but it did have some good tracks on it.Also, Outkast is not the "New South", they sound nothing like most southern rappers or rappers in general for that matter. But you have to admit, the south has far more garbage artist than the East, name one artist or group other than OutKast that has consistently went platinum or gold, put out good albums with good lyrics, and has been in the game for a decade?I can't think of one southern group/artist other than OutKast that has had longevity in the game like Jay-Z(10 years in,first album platinum, all albums after that double platinum or better)or Nas(13 years in,album consistently go platinum or gold).

OutKast was a great group when they where OutKast, and not some Andre3000 side project. That idlewild soundtrack was horrible and the movie was even worst. And when is the next OutKast album going to drop,2020.I'm sorry to say it, but it looks like OutKast is over, until Andre3000 stops trying to be an actor and Big Boi stop making guess appearances on wack artist songs.
