Queens Emcee Nasir Jones recently held a private screening at the New York City Tribeca Grand Hotel, to preview the video for his first single "Be a N****r. In the video directed by Rick Cordero, Nas is featured in a black and white video standing in front of a mirror rapping while clips of flash through the mirror showing people of all culturs suffering from the toils of discrimination and racism.
When asked about the song as well as the video Cordero said,
"Nas offends no one, by offending everyone this video is not a publicity stunt. It was definitely an honor to work with him."
At the of the video Nas is seen standing in front of the mirror, questioning his self and what he has done in his time on earth. While still looking in the mirror he says, "You could have done something great Nasir Jones....you just a n***a."
After what seemed like a firestorm of criticism for the album title, "N****R", Nas finally decided to change it, but denied giving into the pressure and criticism that he received from many including several in the African American Community.
He also addressed the possibility of Sharpton and other African American leaders having an effect on the title change.
"Sharpton had no influence on me changing the title," he asserted. "Hip-hop has caught a lot of heat this last year from our so-called black leaders. We have a lot of enemies from these so-called leaders and they go to these corporations and extort the record labels.
They have no way of making money and they're mad we're making a lot of money off of sh*t we sell in the streets, there's no more outspoken or political rappers. It ain't far fetched on us, but the old generation frowns on us. The Bill Cosby's and Sharpton's they're scared that hip-hop n*gga's are on the way up and the so-called leaders play the tap dance roll because of that."

Moving away from the criticism Nas explained the reason for the original album title. Addressing those who said that the album was just a cheap ploy at selling records.
