The ever eccentric Lupe Fiasco has once again gone on what one can only assume to be an experimental journey. The Chicago MC who's been known to put out genre-bending concept projects is now speculated to be dabbling in British Rock under the alias "Percival Fats."
The band, Japanese Cartoon, has denied any reports of Lupe being involved in their projects other than serving as an executive producer.
"Percival Fats (Born Percival Hindenburg-Fats) Is NOT Lupe Fiasco (Born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco). Although he is a dear friend." A message posted via the bands myspace reads.
"...Lupe does finance the band but is NOT I REPEAT NOT THE SINGER IN JAPANESE CARTOON. He is however the producer and we value his participation very much."
Fans of the rapper however aren't buying it due to the strikingly similar voice "Fats" bears to Lupe. You can check out a track from the band below and decide:
In related news, Lupe's first official single off his upcoming triple lp, LupE.N.D., will be "Shining Down." It will be the single off the first album, "Everywhere."
According to Atlantic Records, LupE.N.D. is currently set for a December 29th, 2009 release date.

I’m 99% sure Percival Fats is Lupe Fiasco, that sounds JUST like Lupe.
This is just a clever marketing technique masquerading as a conspiracy to generate buzz, and of course it’s working. I took the bait, and so did these other blogging sites.

Son you just started listening to hip hop according to you.
Gangsta rap took hip hop to the level it is today so if you a true hip hop fan you need to appreciate gangsta rap and understand that it grew out of what was going on in the community at the time. Hip Hop moves in cycles and it may be time for gangsta rap to fall back as a new less gangsta generation comes up but NWA, ICE CUBE, DRE and SNOOP SPICE 1, KOOL G RAP, BOOGIE DOWN PRODUCTIONs(KRS1 w/ a gun in his hand on both his first two records rappin about his tech) SCARFACE, BIGGIE, PAC, REAKWON, REDMAN MOBB DEEP are all true hip hop along with others who helped bring hip hop to the forfront.
Were all of them themselves gangsters? some maybe, others not, but regardless they were able to capture and express the mood of the community at the time.
Kanye wests 808 aint nothing more than 80’s alt rock with a little kick. Go listen to some old Phil Collins or some old Sting or Cindi Lauper for that matter and see if that nigga is really doin anything new for hip hop. Nigga sound like Terrence Trent Darby.
HipHop is the center of it all. GangstaRap and (for example) 808’s are just branchs off of HipHop. Be it that Gangsta Rap is the strongest and oldest branch on the tree the leaves are dieing off. Now this season (Culture of today) more leaves are growing on the younger move vivid branchs of the tree, because thos branchs are reaching outside the (box) canopy of the old tree and getting more sunlight(love)

Jesu2808 is not hip hop. It’s r&b/pop with maybe a little alt rock/eletronica influence. It’s been done before. There are artists who do it their whole careers. just cuz a hip hop artist delves into it dont make it hip hop.

Lupe is an artist so I dont give a fuck what an artist does in their real life. But what they do with the art itself. No one will remember that Lupe eat a italian sub but more then likely someone will know about his LP’s. I only judge Artists by their ART, not by what they wear and how they act. But thats just me.

NOBODY said that you like GRODT better than Illmatic. I was simply using GRODT VS ILLMATIC to bring across my point, of rappers who ‘sell a lot’ versus rappers who sell ‘less’ (note I said LESS, not LITTLE).

Shame he’s considering retirement. Although i’m not 100% sure on him making this next album ,triple disk or not, an classic i hope he pulls it off.
cause certain things like that take time to build ones craft. but this album is def. gonna be better than 98.999% of the garbage that comes out nowadays.
