He continues, "We have to be very careful when we talk about it because, for some strange reason, his fans... start thinking, like, you're hating when you're just being real."

I ain't gon hate on LL for that. He wasn't saying anything disrespectful. He kept it 100. I personally wanna see homie drop a classic one last time and go out like Jordan in 98' or something. He definitely deserves something like that.

I gotta diasgree here for a moment with yall...

LL hasn't been happy with DefJam for a minute now...even since BEFORE Jay-Z was president. His hatred stemmed from the fact that his relevance in the Hip Hop world isn't a third of what it used to be back in the day.

The reason for that is simple...he spent 90% of his career catering to women instead of us real hip hop heads. I mean shit look at his name: LADIES LOVE COOL J!

On top of that... look who he's talking to during that interview...fuckin' SISTER to SISTER (ladies again)!

Had he been talking to XXL or The Source or any magazine read mainly by MEN and hip hop heads...
He would've been talking the same way he was in all of his prior interviews: RECKLESS AS SHIT!

In regards to yall saying he should be DefJam president...
It'll never happen!
He himself wouldn't take the position because he wouldn't be able to handle all of the "unhappy artists" that have been...are on now...and will be there forever...as long as the label exists!

Side note: Didn't this muthafucka hook up with 50 anyways?

Jay is a proven businessman, therefore his credentials going into the job as president of DefJam are valid. LL, is a performer, and former FuBu spokesperson, no where in his resume qualifies him for that position. Jay knows how to make money, which is the bottom line for a company. DefJam had alot of success under him, some of the artisits didn't, but that can't be lamed on him, you have to look at the demand. Free and Ghost both put out excellent albums but, there aren't enough consumers who want to buy that sort of music anymore. They are looking for something else. Same goes for most of those disgruntled artists, LL, Budden, Meth, Redman, Beans...the list goes on and on. I don't care who heads the label, they won't be succesful nowadays unless they provide the product consumers want. NeYo, Jeezy, Rihanna, Luda, Kanye, and several other artisits were succesful under Jay's reign. All platinum selling artists during a period in which sales are on the decline. Not bad.

Nigga, and I rarely use this word, LL COULDN'T even deal with Cannabis, let alone Jay.

And I'm one to rarely defend Jay, just like when I told the WHOLE DEFSOUNDS he WOULDN'T win that bid for the arena, and he didn't. Told y'all all he was only "hood" rich, not "corporate" rich, but no one was hearin' it. That is, of course, 'til he lost.

And can’t forget the Flex joint where he claimed to have spent Canibus budget money with Wyclef ha ha ha,…LL have bodied a lot of cats ICE T, COOL MOE D, Young MC etc,…c’mon duke LL on his A game is a problem trust me. He can eat MC’s for real. Man I guess we have a different opinion today..WOW that rarely happens But one line that Canibus landed that stands today is “..99% of your fan wear hight hills” lol.

back to l, that nigga problen is he got stale, he stopped re-inventing his self. that nigga got so big back in day, that he stopped tryin- he's just tryin to sell records off his legend status. but it's amazing that status don't drop even after the last few bullshit albums he put out.

Real talk you can’t hate on LL, son been putting it down. Just 3 weeks ago I went to an exchange CD store picked up “14 shots to the Dome” & “the G.O.A.T” put that shit on my Ipod & been banngin to joints on there ever since. Lyrically he’s nice & he doesn’t get his respect due. I mean duke went hard w/ P on that Havoc Beat on G.O.A.T.
Will all that said, lets face it LL’s last album was pure Gar-Ba-ge,…straight BaSuRa. I mean That J-Lo song was a disater, c’mon B, we all fux with 80’s theme joints but that song wouldn’t have banged in the 80’s,…LL was rapping like some RnB nigga,…shit was mad disappointing. So we cleary can’t blame Jay & Def Jam for this album. Now if RedMan, Beans & Freeway said this, hell yeah I blame Def Jam,…none of these artist combine had enough attention that LL get for his trash CD, But all droped hot albums, Redman’s especially, shit was fire from the intro/outtro to the skits. So he needs to be blaming people not LL

The 2 cats need to make a song together, stop all that beefing shit. Both are legends in there own. LL Cool J has been out for ever and Jay Z not as long but is diffently a big name in hip hop. I think just maybe LL is a little jealous of Jay-Z success beacause LL has been out for mad long and made Def Jam a lot of cake and then Jay-Z slides on in and gets the president job and now is his boss. That's how life is LL. Just say fuck it and make a we are the world joint together! (ha ha)

Man DefJam was ass with Jay running it. The only artists that even remotely sold were himself, Nas, Fabolous (allegedly went platinum), Kanye, Rihanna, and Ne-Yo, and Amy, if you want to count her "Island" affiliations. And, they created a buzz for Chrisette. Other than that, pretty much every other artist was pissed.

RECENT DEFJAM FLOPS UNDER JAY:
Beanie Sigel
Bobby Valentino
Fabolous
Freeway
Ghostface Killah - 2007 Rap Album of the Year
Redman
The Roots
Method Man
The-Dream
and not to mention all the albums that dropped that we don't even know about... and be like, "I ain't even know so and so dropped an album last year."

All i'm getting out of this is that the already established artists are blaming jay for their dwindling sales when they weren't selling way before jay got his seat. Now don't get me wrong, Jay does deserve some of the blame, but not all of it. When LL could've been trying to remain relevant in music, he was making movies and writing workout books. When Meth and Redman could've been making that Blackout 2, they were doing movies and sitcoms. It's like Hov became president, and everybody thought they was entitled to platinum plaques. If a nigga was sellin' before Hov, what makes them think they was gonna sell after Hov. In terms of Beans, he was never a platinum artist, he was gold at the most. So for him to be considered a flop for his last album going gold now that Hov is president is ridiculous. The same goes for the Roots. They never sold a lot, so if they doing the same numbers now, that they did then, does that count as a failure? The artists that came in under Jay(Jeezy, Rick Ross, Rihanna, Ne-Yo) all did their thing under him the first time around, and the second they was on they own, and they still did good. And what about Ludacris?? Not only did he come onto Def Jam before Hov was president, but even after that, he not only went platinum, but he won a grammy. So to LL, stop bitchin. You may be a legend, but don't put all the blame on Hov, u helped in your own musical downfall

I agree with the logic, especially considering the state of the business artist need to put their share of work into the project, they can just do the music & leave the promotions to the Label alone. And another think that Killz me, is how all these artist say they hustlers & know how to triple they gwap, but when shit like this pop off, where all the money at now? I mean y’all have money or what? Shiiit Shoot your own low budget video send it to BET or MTV or put that shit on youtube at least. I mean Damn.

Dude Jay dosent walk people into a Best Buy and tell them what to listen to. People will buy whatever they feel like spending thier money on. All those flops under Jays watch wern't all his fault. Seriously, the music industry has been hit hard by the net. Even in 2000-2004 when hip hop accounted for 60% of all music purchases, people were still Limewiring or Napstering it up. The fault lies within the artists. Sorry, but I aint payin 15$ for an album full of guests. So until dudes really put the pen to the paper and craft Cd's like Chronic 2001, The Marshall Mathers Album, I AM, The Black Album, tp2.com, etc, thats goin to continue to happen. Truth is people are dropping hot 16's but not hot albums.

The ones dat flopped were actually very good artists(Redman, Method Man, Ghostface, etc.) but they didn't get proper marketin like charimatic also said, I didn't kno Redman had an album til I got on this site n dat was in November n Red's album came out around March!
