When news first broke that Little Brother member 9th wonder was only producing one track on their highly anticipated new album “Getback” many folks were wondering about the future of LB as a group. And for months they fought back rumors of a possible break up until now.
Rapper Big Pooh broke news of the breakup to HipHopGame, com stating “Little Brother has decided, in the best interest of the group, for Little Brother and 9th Wonder to part ways. There are no hard feelings and no beef. This is just a decision that had to be made so all three of us could move forward and continue to provide the world with dope music.”
Speculation of a possible breakup surfaced after 9th wonder started attending Central University in Durham, N.C. taking courses to earn his degree in history as well as teaching classes on the history of hip hop . At the time when asked about the change of route him and Little Brother were having he seemed a little optimistic yet doubtful of their future, stating “They want to take it in a different direction, which is totally fine, I’m always down for evolution, so let’s see if it works. But I’m still steadfast on the thing, and whatever happens between us I want to stay between us. Whether it be with Little Brother or myself or other groups, I really want to focus my time on making music. I want to try to get the message across.”
But besides the losa of superproducer 9th wonder more news come from LB as they also break news of their efforts to try to part ways with Atlantic. When asked about the groups future with Major label Atlantic Rapper Pooh stated “At this time we are in the process of negotiating our release from the label due to a difference in philosophies.” While Manager Big Dho added ” We asked to be released, think we may just put the album out on Asylum to close our deal, but it’s definitely a wrap for us at Atlantic. We weren’t happy with how things were going and we decided we wanted to leave and on their end, they decided that they didn’t want to deal with that either.”
Pooh continued “We as a group just felt that it was not in our best interest to remain in a situation where our needs were constantly being overlooked. We didn’t have an A&R for The Minstrel Show. We don’t have any type of relationship with our current A&R. There are just a lot of internal issues that ended up working against us.”
Getback, Little Brother’s third album, is close to completion but has no scheduled release date.

its too bad people are listing to so much garbage now a days. little brother is a breath of fresh in a polluted industry. if your tired of ur favorite rappers lying to you. peep little brother, they got that old hip hop soul. they always speak the truth.
long live little brother. a group like this is hard to find now a days.
if u never heard of them, theres a good chance you are part of the death of hip hop.

again...it's grown up music...little niggaz are still stuck on Lil' Wayne, they ain't familiar wit LB yet.
But for us that know real shit...this sucks. It ain't gonna be the same without 9th. I'll still check it out though...Phonte is a very underrated emcee.
who r they?? wow!! wasn't expecting to read that at all. NC finest mc's and 9th remixed god's son (NAS JOINT) and sparked the craze to remake an entire cd with your own beats. one reason Jay let the black album have instrumentals released. He also had 9th on the Black
You have love how "Real Hip Hop" and "grown up music"is so easily toss out there now a days.
yeah, its not surprising that some of these cats dont know who they are. i mean, vocabulary, good flows, musical beats. stuff like that gives people headaches now a days. i mean, its hard enought to spell the words on a forum when you post. why would they wanna listen to smart, REAL hip hop. little brother is dope. if you dont know, now ya know.
THERE ARE ALOT OF PEOPLE IN HIP HOP WHO NEED TO HEAR LITTLE BROTHER; IF FOR NOTHING ELSE THAN TO GET AN IDEA WHERE THIS RAP/HIP HOP CAN GO.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW, LET ME PUT IT TO YOU LIKE THIS...
NOW-A-DAYS YOU HAVE THE SAME OLD POPULAR SOUND LIKE:
LIL WAYNE, JAY-Z, DIP SET, LUDACRIS, NAS, ETC.
WHO ARE LIKE THE SAME OLD POPULAR FOODS:
PIZZA, HAMBURGERS, CHICKEN, SODAS,ETC
THEN THERE IS LITTLE BROTHER, AND A FEW OTHER HIP HOP ACTS; WHO AREN'T POPULAR FOR WHO THEY ARE, BUT ARE RESPECTED FOR WHAT THEY DO LIKE:
JUICE, BEANS, EGGS,ETC.
SOONER OR LATER, WE'RE GET TIRED OF DEALIN' WITH ALL THE "JUNKFOOD" IN HIP HOP AND WANT SOMETHING (LIKE LITTLE BROTHER) THAT'S MORE SUSTAINING.
TABARI
They are one of the illest groups out there. Not that typical southern flavor. They have there own style where they don't follow that ignorant southern shit.
"You have love how "Real Hip Hop" and "grown up music"is so easily toss out there now a days."
hmmm...you gotta love how easily niggaz forget what "Real Hip-Hop" sounds like...I remember, because I'm grown. And to me LB represents that...u don't gotta feel me.
thats crazy man come on...im passed out like my mama at revival (hallelujah) lol i hope the getback is somethin like the minstrel show!
I don't know what to say, about this breakup...I do know that 9th Wonder will be missed. I wonder how LB will sound with other productions... Hopefully they can get a Hi-Tek or a beat from Q-tip, on this next album. That would be lovely.... Oh, and for the people who don't know who these producers are...... Hi-Tek did beats for Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, The Game, and is on Dr. Dre's production team right now. And yes Q-tip produces music. Not for sure if you guys listened to the 1st Mobb Deep Album, the 1st Nas album, or the Tribe Called Quest albums. Those guys and LB would make a beautiful marriage....Plus, I'm glad 9th is teaching classes on the history of Hip-Hop, because a lot of people, young and old tend to forget the foundation of it all... Its the love of the MUSIC, which motivates the GREATS...Money's great, but after all the hype of a rapper is gone, the only thing left is his music....That's why GREAT musicians will never go broke, because producers always sample their music. Rest his soul, James Brown hasn't put an album out in over 20 years, and rappers still do songs over his music....Shoo, Jimi Hendrix died either in the late 60's or early 70's, and Nissan keeps using his music to promote their Cars and trucks in their commercials. EVEN Paul McCartney (The Beatles for those who don't know), that dude is a BILLIONAIRE. Music Alone.... The GREATS STAY RICH. I like that Richboy song, for the sample. Why, because that beat is from EL DEBARGE. He still making money from people sampling his music. Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, I can go on, and on, but you should be able to get my drift by now.
little brother is nice on 9th wonder beats, no doubt. but they shine even more on other beats, for example, the dj drama mixtape they dropped over the summer, that shit was hot!!! i cant wait to hear getback. i love little brother man, they make me wanna mc, i been rappin for about 9-10 years, and for a while nothin was inspire me that much.
untill i hear the menstal show, its got some a pure hiphop essence about it.
as phonte says, ''its that type of shit that you can feel in your torsoe''
if you don't know who LB is you should drown your mother, an then buy The Listening and The Minstrel Show. If you don't like it then you should drown yourself.
man dat fuckin sucks they were tha last ppl from hta south i fucked wit man see wat sko0 does
