Prior to the show, CMA Chief Executive Officer Tammy Genovese said, “The lineup for this year's CMA Awards is outstanding...We know our viewers will enjoy this mix of Country Music artists and celebrities."
Although it was the first time a real rapper ever appeared at the CMA's (some argue the first was Cowboy Troy, who performed during the CMAs in 2004, but he was basically a country act, not a rap one...hick-hop?), fans of the rapper would have been sorely disappointed if they were expecting to hear the platinum selling aritst. Wayne didn't say much.....in fact, he didn't say ANYTHING.
Instead Lil Wayne, wearing a Tennessee Titans jersey that matched Kid Rock's, simply remained in the background, strumming on a guitar as he mimicked playing the instrument alongside the musician's real guitarist.
