In what could only be described as one of the saddest events outside of Hip-Hop that correlates with the community itself James Brown died at the age of 73. Frank Copsidas, James Brown’s agent told the Associated Press that, “Brown was hospitalized with pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Sunday and died of heart failure around 1:45 a.m. Monday. He initially seemed fine at the hospital and even told people that he planned to be on stage in New York on New Year’s Eve”, Copsidas said.
James Brown’s “Funky Drummer”, “Funky President”, “The Payback” and countless other hits are within the top ten of most used samples in hip-hop. Even as of recently Nas used Brown’s classic hit “Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved” to lace his track “Where are They Now”. His live show and style of dancing has influenced countless of famous acts such as Usher, Justin Timberlake, and Michael Jackson. He earned the nickname “The Hardest Working Man in Show Business” and often tried to prove it to his fans. His “Live at The Apollo” in 1962 is widely considered one of the greatest concert records ever. “To this day, there has been no one near as funky. No one’s coming even close,” rapper Chuck D of Public Enemy once told the AP. It’s a sad and somber day not only in Hip Hop but in Music.

Damn...this year has been fucked up we lost Gerald Levart, J-Dilla, now The Godfather. Me as a Producer and music lover in general owes so much to James Brown. Every producer and entertainer has taken some aspect of his music into there own. My all time favorite has to be "mans world" I never attempted to sample that record it was to dope to touch. James Brown music will live forever. R.I.P
