Breed, who was known for his 1991 hit "Ain't No Future in Yo' Frontin', grew up in Flint, Michigan. He moved to Atlanta in the 1990s.
Between 1991 and 2004, Breed recorded 13 albums and collaborated with artists such as Tupac Shakur.
Officials say no foul play is suspected, early reports from The Detroit News and The Flint say Breed suffered kidney failure. Toxicology reports are pending.
