In an industry built on money, and Jay-Z’s Def Jam contract ending this year, word has it that it has caused a rift between La Reid and himself. Reports say that due to Jays’ success as President, he’s asking for more money, and this may be a problem for Reid
On top of requesting certain bonuses for albums that perform better than expected, he has asked for a few more million in salary increases. This hasn’t struck a good cord with Reid, and they are “miles apart” with negotiations. Due to Jay being offically out of retirement, he is also speculated to be wondering just how much output Hov will be putting out behind the desk, as he is now touring again, but Reid brushed off the accusations, responding:
“We really love Jay . He’s so important to our company, there’s not much we wouldn’t do to keep him here, money being the least of them.” “Everything he does is a complement to our business. We encourage it.” He said of the folks starting the rumors, “People at other labels may wish there was trouble.
