Jermaine Dupri To Produce Majority Of New Nas Album

by REIGN

MONDAY OCTOBER 22, 2007

Hip-Hop mega-producer Jermaine Dupri, talks about how exicted he is to be producing the majority of Nas’ new album, tentatively titled, “Nigger” which is due out this coming December. A while back, Nas told JD he wanted to get on the radio a little bit more, but as he has gotten deeper into the new project, Nas has abandoned that idea. “You can sell records without having a big pop single,” he added. “Like ‘Money Ain’t a Thing.’ It was a tremendous record, a classic, but it never went #1. Kanye West’s ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing’ wasn’t a major Billboard success, but it felt like #1 in my heart.”

Dupri revealed he might use some sampling for Nas because he loves “Surviving the Times” so much. JD used to sample heavily until all those clearances started tapping at his pockets. “That new record is hip-hop! The samples in it…I wanna do records like that,” he said. “I got a million ideas to go with that type of shit. The Nas thing would be really creative for me, to come up with records that got that feel and vibe and a slight possibility of being on the radio. Like the record I did with Jay on American Gangster, it had a little bit of radio, but it’s a story/club record.”

“When you look at niggas like JD, I worked him on one of his biggest albums, Life in 1472,” responded Nas, who has done a bulk of the record already with Salaam Remi. “I was on the first song on there, me and him. I love JD. He’s one of the niggas that made me want to move to Atlanta six years ago. I definitely wanna get it in with him. But nigga better hurry because me and Salam might finish the album. Jermaine better hurry up and get in the studio and start dancing around to these beats and make this happen,” he laughed.

“Let’s get it poppin’. I got two weeks to be done.” Nas wants to drop his first single for Nigger two or three days after November 6, which is the day his greatest-hits LP and Jay-Z’s American Gangster drop. Nas appears on Hov’s set via the track “Success.” “The record with Jay, that’s a crazy joint,” he said. “Homeboy is laser-sharp with his shit. And he’s got a crazy album. I’m really proud of him. It made me proud. Yeah, I’m on the joint. I’m on there.”

HA Dupri became the youngest charting producer in the history of music at age 18 with his first chart selling artists being Kriss Kross. When he got more familiar with business Jermaine went on to produce a number of hits for PLATINUM artists such as music for TLC, Jay-Z, Ludacris, Bow Wow, Da Brat, and also helped get Mariah Carey back on top with the BEST SELLING ALBUM of 2005, The Emancipation of Mimi.
NUFF SAID and hes going to do it with the BEST SELLING ALBUM of 2008 Nas' Nigger

what r u talkin about hip-hop is dead was d*mn near a classic regardless of what it sold. he had one single... thats it. i dont even think he had a video. if he didnt i didnt see it. this new album although i might not like the title especially if its gonna be "n*gger"... is gonna be hot. and although jd isnt that good as a rapper. hes 1 hell of a producer. yall need to stop hatin b4 yall even hear anything. and ppl not listening to nas is the reason y there are so many killings and ppl in jail in our communtiys. cuz yall rather live a studio rappers dream. sellin drugs shootin gangs. grow up. nas been rapped about that. grew up and is tryna teach too bad nobodys listening.

well unless JD has drastically changed his production and perception of the game, Nas has really made a bad move with working so much of the album with that height challenged corny dude. I mean this dude put on one of the worst groups of the last five years "Dem franchise Boys" and they have since fell off as expected but none the less they in a way opened the ugly door to let in some more shitty ass snap music with simplistic crap rap and is one of the reasons we have to hear that tired ass soulja boy bullshit every damn day, JD also put Bow wow on, and lil' bow wow sucks.....dick.

Nas your last album was called "Hip Hop is dead" u should call this one "I found the culprit, and he's producing most of this album" not Nigger. lol

I said it hasnt been anything hot since he dropped and no it wasent his best but it had some nice joints on it i would say i liked about hallf the album. andmost rappers or anybody put together a full album thats great. but yeah red light district was tight but streets disciples i can do without. but my point is 04 was like the last hot year in hip-hop and em was the last to drop in 04 which is why i used him as an example. dont forget kanye's first album droped that year two plus banks and buck first albums. but 05,06 and 07 been really shitty if you ask me.

its the best selling hip-hop album since he dropped encore. next time you wanna say somthing and than say lol know what your talking about. cause the re-up sold more than kingdom come, king,t.i. vs.t.i.p, late registration and a lot more know your facts.

I asked you two simple questions. Neither one of those questions had anything to do with numbers.

You sure you want to go out on a limb and say the Re-Up sold more than those albums you mentioned? Last I checked re-up is 1.6 US and 2 worldwide. By the way I'm not saying anything else about sales because it doesn't mean shit.

Yes, I have that album and the shit wasn't all that. Decent but nothing more. All the albums you named are better albums that The Re-Up. That's my opinion.

Well i dont know that last time you looked at the sales but the re-upis 3.5 worldwide. for the record record sales mean alot if your an artist no record sales no job. we all saw what happened to joe budden. but to answer your tw questions from before. no eminem is not the reason hip-hop is dead. he's was the reason it was living he was the heart of hip-hop at the time he was doing his thing cause thiers no one other rapper like him, from lyrics to creativity to diversity, to contriversy even when he on that wierd shit its better than some of that bullshit he that comes out now. every other rapper besides em is the same there's a million jay-z's, 50cent, nas, kanye west, you never hear anybody compareing em to nobody. and about the re-up I actually that it was a good album not great but good, I think its better than kingdom come and t.i. vs t.i.p not late registration and king. I thought king could have been better though.

I can respect that response even though I don't agree with 99% of your statement especially the M&M vs hip-hop comparison. All those cats you named have played there part in this game and I don't think any of them is less or more important than the other. It's all a matter of opinion.

Sales doesn't equate the quality of an album.

ACTUALLY... the re up debuted On the U.S. Billboard 200 at number two, selling about 309,000 copies in its first week.[5] The album has recently been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. It is currently #18 on the top compilations albums. The album has since sold over 2.5 million albums worldwide.

AND YOUR WRONG Late Registration is the second major label album release from Roc-A-Fella hip hop artist and producer Kanye West. The album was released on August 30, 2005, and debuted at #1, selling over 860,000 copies in its first week. It has gone on to sell well over 3 million copies in the U.S. and received overall positive reviews from critics.

O.K. I was wrong about kanye but he did out sale the rest of those jokers.but in saying that you just proved my point even more em releases a mixtape album which sold a little over 300,000 it's first week and end up saling 2.5 kanye's album sales over 800,000 copies its first week and only sale 3 million thats only 500,000 more, if em, had sold 800,000 his first week he would be diamond. it only proves that what 50 say is right def jam bought kanyes album the first week to make it look good but than you see the naturle out come. go look upanybody else that sold 800, copies thier first week i bet they sold at least over 5 million.

Ya'll dudes is dumb JD makes hits, He's all over the radio... I never liked JD, before he had the beef wit Timbo & Dr. Dre, then I went backed and peeped that he gets heavy spins!!! Truelly Nas does need a step up in his production, if JD does like 4 tracks it will be a great look for them both!!!

Now we really bout to find out how many black fans actually buy Nas' albums. I don't think there will be more than a couple thousand white fans that buy this jaunt nationwide, if that, based on the name alone. I hope those true Nas fans step up, I plan on coppin it, even though Im not a big Nas head like most.
