“It was like I was watching the film, and putting it on pause, and giving a back story to the story,” he tells the New York Times about the film which stars Denzel Washington and will be opening on November 2nd.
“It immediately clicked with me,” said Jay-Z, who has made passing references to gangster movies in previous recordings but has never delved so deeply into the genre. “Like ‘Scarface,’ or any one of those films, you take the good out of it, and you can see it as an inspiring film.”
“Watching that film, it brought back all these memories,” he said. “It took me back to those emotions.”
The album is set to be released in early November—with the single “Blue Magic” rumored to hit the airwaves later today.

This album has just tied for #1 on my most anticipated list (Tha Carter 3 as well). Hopefully he can take it back to his Reasonable Doubt days and deliver a classic and not miss like he did somewhat with Kingdom Come. The simple fact that the name of the album is American Gangster is reason enough for me to buy it.
