Last week was a big one for Jay. He released the “Blue Magic” video, and he dropped the slick single “Roc Boys”, off his upcoming album, American Gangster. Though the album’s release date is still weeks away, Jay announced that a few more songs off the album will be out before then. “I don’t want any single to live out there on its own, because the record plays like a movie; it has a beginning, middle and an end,” , said Hov last week during in phone conference with DJs across the country.
Jay was a bit bothered by the leaking of “Dead Presidents 3.” Clips of the song have already found their way to the Internet and mixtapes, and it is only a matter of time before the entire track gets out. “I had that for a minute,” said Jigga. “I think I got an idea how it got out there. I ain’t gonna overreact or nothing. But I had that record a minute ago. I don’t know, I might have to let that one go too. I think we might have to do that. Early!”
Jay claims that he plans to release a movie based on the album, which he will star in as well, however, don’t look for him in the director’s chair. “Maybe there’s a plan to do some executive producing, but I think it’s too late for me to start as a director,” he said. “Anything I do, I wanna be the best at. I think it might take me too long to really get into it and learn the nuances, film treatment and other stuff. I would want to be on Martin Scorsese’s level.”
Jay has just about completed American Gangster, up to late last week, he was still trying to find one more song to add to the album. So far, he’s worked with Diddy, No ID, Jermaine Dupri , the Neptunes, DJ Toomp and the production team of Sean C. and LV to produce the album. When asked if he would work with DJ Premier again, he answered, “If the time is right and the vibe is right, of course. We was just together for the taping of the making of Reasonable Doubt for VH1. [The show is called] ‘Classic Albums.’ We chopped it up, so I guess [another collaboration] is not out of the realm of possibilities.” ...
