Field Mob's Smoke says D4L and Dem Franchize boys killed hip hop

by JOKESTA

THURSDAY DECEMBER 21, 2006

In a recent interview with SOHH, Southern Rappers Smoke and Shawn J discuss the current state of hip hop. As well as the controversy surrounding a video that was released in which the duo appeared to be dissing New York and New York Rappers.

“My bossman is from the heart of Harlem. His name is [DTP CEO] Chaka Zulu. His brother [DTP executive] Jeff [Dixon] is from the heart of Harlem. We basically mimicking them. The dude that edited it and made it seem like we was getting at New York… If you saw the real DVD, you would have saw that it’s just a joke. We joke like that, we have fun.” Said smoke.

“DTP fired him from being a cameraman, so what he did was take his footage home and try to slander us with the footage,” Smoke continued. “And he chopped it up and edited it like we were cracking on New York. My bossman says ‘son,’ ‘b,’ ‘word up’... all that. They don’t give a fuck about it, so why should another motherfucka give a fuck about it? I feel like if the south wasn’t on top the way it is right now, it wouldn’t have been as big of an issue in my opinion. I would never do that in New York, shoot myself in the foot like that. That’s the mecca of Hip-Hop. If it wasn’t from New York, I wouldn’t be here today, rapping.”

When asked about Hip Hop being dead:

“Hell yeah, hip hop is dead” Said Smoke. “I’mma tell you who killed hip hop, D4L and Dem Franchize Boyz. Those are the murderes of Hip Hop, in my opinion. It was already dying. They just came over and killed it. Nobody doing Hip Hop is selling records. Lil’ Wayne is the only motherfucka doing Hip Hop that’s selling, him and Young Jeezy. Hip Hop is not what it used to be.”

“I love D4L and Franchize Boyz,” added Smoke. “I love ‘Laffy Taffy’ and all that shit, so don’t get it fucked up. I ain’t dissing them niggas at all. They from GA, [and] I’m a Georgia nigga. Me and Shawn [J] we still make Hip-Hop music, but people don’t wanna accept it because it got a southern twang. Hip-hop is wordplay, saying something, metaphors. I love Hip-Hop. I fell in love with Mobb Deep [and] Nas—these are the people that influenced me. People like Bun B. He’s a Hip-Hop artist. MJG, Eightball .. those are hip-hop southern artists. The old south is Hip-Hop. The new south…naaahh!”

I believe thats what they was doing...When i hang around my NY friends on campus we do the same thing....Act like we from NY, and they act like they from DC...Who ever that camera man is was a clown for doing that........Secondly when he spoke of hip hop being dead....Im sick of this topic..>Fact remains as this....Everybody keep saying hip hop is dead but obviously we all still listening to this shit....Also this nicca said hip hop is supposed to be wordplay, saying something, metaphors....Thats where the problem lies for us right there.....He didnt even mention telling a story.......Then he mentioned lil wayne and jeezy as real hip hop....I love jeezy but that aint hip hop.....that repetitive shit cannnot be hip hop...But at the end of the day im all for it, black people making money is a beautiful thing...We need to jus accept it and move on......Is rap the same? no....Do these niccas still make quality muisc...no....But was the old school niccas gettin paid...hell no....SO you give a lil to get a lil.....More blacks are gettin rich than ever before off of music.......IF you dont like it dont buy it.....Yeah i agree that most rappers are lame...BUt the beauty of it is if i never want to hear another young jeezy song i dont have to

I think Banks is better than Wayne also...so what? Anyways back to the subject, I don't think anyone killed Hip-Hop, but D4L is wack as fuck though, and Dem Franchise Boys are wack too, but not as wack as D4L...but to say they killed Hip-Hop is an overstatement...that's giving them wack niggaz too much credit...Personally, I don't like their shit whatsoever, but there's someone out there listening to their shit, so there has to be a fanbase for it...Even though they are wack, I still believe there's room for everybody in this game, but real recognizes real man, so if u don't like it then just don't listen to it.

Thats is the most stupidiest comment I ever heard Field Mob say.How can you blame hip hop problems on 2 groups. I'll say this. Dem Franchize boys and D4L did not kill hip hop. They just did a couple of moves on it and thats it. I mean I like both groups but only to a certain extent because I'm from the south 2. I mean when the last time you see D4L drop somethin. They ain't doin nothin right now.Neither is Field Mob. I can't say for Dem Franchize Boyz. Field Mob just trying to say something about hip hop like 40 other artists have already done. This whole Hip Hop is dead thing is bullshit.

every damn thing you hear now is hip-hop is dead. if the shit dead, then why you still listenin' to it. Look at this way, New York was on top for years, then Cali, then Atl, then Texas, then the Chi-town then Miami, and whoever next. It's damn cycle, damn ya turn will come around, if not that's mean you didn't work for it. And it can't be one person, everybody from that area has to come together. If niggaz keep saying hip-hop is dead no disrespect but London and England and shit make take the next thrown and keep it. "Hip-hop is dead" is a methaphor that got to stupid niggaz head which led to niggaz thinking it's coming after them. Field mobb said it right, "you got to be a gay ass nigga to worry about what the fuck we do". Busters are pumping this shit up over a methaphor

NO ONE PERSON CAN KILL HIP HOP

D4L WERE ONE HIT WONDERS, BUT LET'S FACE IT THERE HAVE BEEN ONE HIT WONDERS IN HIP HOP BEFORE; AND FOR EVERY GENRE OF MUSIC FOR THAT MATTER

I AIN'T NO BIG FAN OF D4L, BUT YOU GOTTA FACE FACTS: THEY OBVIOUSLY GAVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANTED TO HEAR

THAT BEING SAID, WOULDN'T EVERY RAPPER REALLY WANT TO GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT SOLD D4L NUMBERS.

REGARDLESS OF HOW BAD LYRICALLY WE MAY AGREE IT WAS, "LYRICAL SKILLS" ARE NOT ELEMENTS OF HIP HOP

RAPPING ITSELF IS...NO MATTER HOW BAD

IF WE DON'T LIKE IT, THEN MAYBE WE AIN'T AS HIP HOP AS WE THOUGHT WE WERE

This is dead the whole, "Hip Hop is Dead", campaign. D4L and DFB are just doing a certain type of dance music, and dancing has always been apart of hip hop in what ever form you wanna call it. There are real MCs still doing it if you are stuck on BET, MTV and its many other subchannels, and commercial radio you wont hear or see to many. There is mainstream hip hop aka TRL Hip Hop and then theres the mixtape straight off the block hip hop, you pick which one you listen too. If you are going to the mainstream sources dont get mad if you are not hearing the artist you dont like. I like all different artist mainstream and underground depending on the mood I am in.

One thing I got to get off my chest people listening to a rapper is not like taking a pledge or oath you dont have to give your undying loyalty to them. I like Wayne and Jeezy but if another person doesn't I dont come at them with a bunch of lame disses cursing them out. I dont listen to G-Unit but I wont get at someone if they do. This is music plain and simple, I will listen to anybody song and if I like it I like it. There are some G Unit songs I like and some Jeezy and Wayne songs I dont like. Its just music we out arguing about another man's words, who we may never meet or even in our communities half the time. Lighten up have some fun this is just music lol.

The only reason why this shit is flourishin is cause the white kids are buyin the albums. Period. White kids buy the majority of hip hop albums. Don't get it twisted. I used 2 WORK @ Tower Records and I saw it with my own eyes. So what they see on MTV, they buy. Period. The snap music is lyrically disgusting and wack as hell, but IT IS catchy, and even though I can only stomach maybe 1-3 songs per week, lol, the kids are seeming to enjoy it. I can call it man, but this crunk shit is the worst.

I think the ONLY reason that people believe this whole "Wayne is the best rapper alive" BULLSHIT, is because he has a swagger that will force you to believe it... And with that being said, it shows how WEAK MINDED some of these people are... "I make em run like the horses do" and "I hit niggas in the head like Vonage" are some of the WACKEST "punchlines" ever, aside from a few of Papoose's corny lines

THE MAIN PROBLEM IS:
OLD SCHOOL HIP HOP. WHAT WAS SAID IN OLD SCHOOL HIP HOP HAS MANIFESTED INTO TODAYS CURRENT HIP HOP STATUS. ITS LIKE A TELEMARKETER, SAME GIMMICK NEW COLOR. MONEY, CARS, GUNS, GIRLS, ITS ALL THERE. YOU CANT SEE IT THOUGH. YOU PROBABLY DONT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THESE THREE WORDS. NIGGA NIGGER NIGGARD. CHECK OUT DICTIONARY.COM.

BUT TO THE POINT... HIP HOP IS GOING BACK TO ITS ROOTS. SLAVERY. ALMOST EVERY RAPPER OR HIP HOPPER WEARS A CHAIN. INSTEAD OF HIP HOPPIN YOU WILL BE HI HOING. HI HO HI HO ITS OFF TO WORK I GO. NOTICE HOW RECORD LABELS GIVE OUT CHAINS TO THEIR NEWEST CONTRACTS(SLAVES). EVERYONE IS WEARING THEM AND HERE IS THE FUNNY PART LOOK HOW BET SUPPORTS THAT SHIT. THEY CALL IT BLACK ENTERTAINMENT. SEANNSTRADAMUS IS RIGHT, ITS FUNNY, HOW BLACKS ARE RECRUITING BLACKS FOR SLAVERY. EITHER TO A MILLIONAIRE RAPPER THAT STARTED HIS OWN LABEL OR A BIG TIME RECORD COMPANY.

I BELIEVE BEFORE YOU REP THESE MOTHERFUCKERS YOU SHOULD REP YOURSELF. THESE PEOPLE SIT ON STACKS OF MONEY AND DONT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOU.

D4L & DFB didn't murder Hip-Hop. Not JUST them anyway. Hip-Hop is dying, due to the [album] downloading sites and whatnot, so not that many people are selling records. And now everyone that is new is killing it even more, Hip-Hop was going into one of those "Look at my cash" stages, but we kinda swerved outta that a little, but muthafuckaz wanna come and bring it up again..... RICH BOY! That faggot needs to kill himself for making those whackass songs and pretending like he's got skills. And Hip-Hop is NOT dead. It's just in the ICU.

I dont think dem franchise boyz and d4l made or even helped put hip hop in its current position. Their were dance songs made before these artist even came out that everyone was snapping or dancing to in clubs. All you people who blaiming artists mainly from the south for hip hop current position is dead wrong. If dance songs sell more then lyrical situations then yea why not keep making it. Dont get me wrong i listen to Nas in all, and personally i think hes best rapper alive mainstream but who wants to listen to lyrical and political songs allday even when you go to clubs. What people dont understand who critisize others for what has become an epic in todays society is We dont need the south to be lyrical, we dont need the north to be bass rap. From a southern prospective you dont wanna get all lyrical on a tight beat because ita ruin the moment. Its ok to have nice beats on songs with verses thats lyrical but not blast music for ya car ya feel me. I uderstand wat da niggas saying in the editorial, this all my opinion. Im from da south myself, i think Immortal Technique, Akir, Nas and mainstream artists like nas are needed now.

Well im out...enough sed

D4L mudered hip hop.....along with ppl like Crime Mob (who the FUCK raps about "Stilettos"? If it ain't the knife........it's not gonna work.) and Dem Franchize Boys....but you gotta look @ newer ones like:
Boosie, who sounds like Trina;
Mike Jones, who knows his name..VERY WELL!;
Jeezy(not new, but, hey..), that raps about coke...all day;
Joc, that raps about coke....(hmm, sound familiar?);
(lots of ppl are gonna get mad) Lil Wayne...that raps about coke..and "kiss-ing his dad-dy"..(getting kind of monotonous, huh?)
Not to say that the south doesn't have their good'uns, like T.I., Clipse, Skillz (who is WAY 2 underrated..), and the older rappers tryna bring themselves back.

Anyways, I can't say that my home team, The East Coast is doin too well...see we tryna bring stuff back. Bring tha dead 2 life....cuz remember, it wasn't too long ago that "BALLLLINNNNN'" was #1...and Jim Jones has n-o flow...(sorry but, niether does Juelz Santana...SORRY!!)..Papoose..he's good, but he wierds me out...he sounds funny rapping. Like he's screaming.

I can say that the Midwest is kinda solid..thass the only scene I'm diggin right now...Detroit, Chicago.......I can't really say nothin else...

(PS to Seannstraddamus: 50 Cent? more talented?! lol. This is the nukka comin out with "Just A Lil Bit", "Candy Shop", "Best Friend", and we CAN'T forget the latest in the series, "Amusement Park"....? WTF? Is he gonna say "Neverland Ranch" next, cuz these lines seem like somethin Mike said 2 them kids b4 they was raped.
"...do U want just a lil bit of this Jesus Juice? then we can go to the candy shop, cuz you're my Best friend..."
I do admire his business mind though. Someone refresh my memory on how much those Glaćeau stocks were worth.....)

I think everyone contributed to the death of hip hop. A majority of the artist out now are just trying to make a quick buck and are not rappin about what hip hop is. Many artist aren't rappin about real shit but are makin music that is catchy and that everyone listens to even though its not real hip hop. I don't think there has been a relevant hip hop album out since Jay-Z dropped "Reasonable Doubt" and since Nas dropped "Illmatic". Hip hop sounds manufactured now and really is trying to sell their music to their white fans. White people are fascinated with the "gangsta" and "drug" lifestyle and thats why Jeezy, Rick Ross, Lil' Wayne, and Juelz are rappin about that shit. Hip hop has died and has turned into being able to market yourself and sell records. Hip hop needs to go back to basics and artists out now need to start rappin about their life instead of drugs. Hip hop was born as something to celebrate life and has died after being something that represents death (gangs, drugs, murder).

Hip Hop! The Reason The Truth Behind Hip Hop Is Dead Now. All people talk about is Drugz.... Thats It. Fuck Jezzey. rap about Life man. A better life. Fuck the drug hustle. All he is doin is braggin about makin money off of killing stupid weak people who think getting high off of man made drugs is actually the business.

It aint about the Ice and Thang, Its about making out a bad situation with your head still on. and not going stupid with all that Worthless shit like Ice and Clothing that cost hella bread.
You Die and you cant take it with you. Talk about something else is all there saying.
