Rap star Eminem recently signed an exclusive worldwide adminsitration deal with Universal Music Group.
The deal envelops new songs written by Eminem and tracks on his greatest hits collection “Curtain Call”. And his newest work “Eminem presents: the Re-Up”. The deal also includes songs he co-wrote on 50 Cent’s The Massacre and Akon’s hit single, Smack that, which he appeared on.
Part of the arrangement also is a mixed venture with Em’s publishing company, Shady Music Publishing, letting Detroit bred rapper and his manager Paul Rosenberg to sign other writers and artists.
“Eminem is an icon for millions of music fans around the globe,” said UMPG Chairman and CEO David Rezner via a statement. “His success as a writer and producer for both his own records as well as other artists continues to grow. We are honored that Eminem and his representatives have chosen Universal Music Publishing Group as their new home.” Alternative artists on UMPG’s roster unclude 50 Cent, Ice Cube, Ludacris, Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige, among others.
In related news: Eminem has been ordered by an Irish judge to give a testimony under oath saying why he missed a concert in the country in 2005. The show, scheduled for September 15, 2005 at Slane Castle, was part of Eminem’s European Anger Management tour.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, Justice Peter Kelly of the High Court in Dulbin issued a letter to the US District Court of the Eastern District of Michigan asking that a judge be there hear the his testimony. Once Eminem testified under oath in Detriot, his explanation will then be read into the record of the Irish court.
Kelly additionally vetoed a request that the rapper’s testimony remain private, noting that there is a constitutional mandate in Ireland stating that justice be administered in public. He added that he could only assuring that the testimony will remain in secrecy until is has been placed into evidence.
