Get ready to scratch off yet another album off your Christmas wishlist this year folks. As most of you may have already guessed, Dr. Dre's highly--and at this point, mythical- - album, Detox has been pushed back a 2009 release.
The official word has arrived care of Interscope Records's head honcho, Jimmy Iovine. In a recent interview with Billboard, Iovine says Eminem is the reason for yet another rescheduling of the long awaited album.
"We only tried to put him [Eminem] out this year to replace Dr. Dre, but we got into a quagmire." Iovine tells Jonathan Cohen of Billboard.
" Eminem was always coming next year. But what happened was, I lost Dr. Dre to Eminem. Dre had to stop making his album to finish Eminem's album. Eminem hit a streak, and when a guy like Eminem gets on fire, you stop everything. That's how we lost Dre" he continued.
Iovine insists that Dre will be back to work on Detox after January, hinting at a first quarter release for Eminem.
"Dre's going back in in January. He'll be finished with Eminem by then, and he'll finish his album."
Interscope was to see a big fourth quarter this year with the releases of 50 Cent's Before I Self Destruct, Eminem's Relapse, and Dr. Dre's Detox, however all three albums have been pushed back to 2009.
