EMI Music, which houses hip hop artists such as Pharrell Williams, Jermaine Dupri, Dilated Peoples, Dem Franchize Boyz, and the legendary Beastie Boyz, confirmed today (Jan. 15) that it will cut up to 2,000 jobs worldwide in its Recorded Music division as part of a major restructuring of the company.
Terra Firm, the label's new private equity owners, say the job cuts will save the struggling company an estimated $392.2 million and allow them to focus more on A&R as well as encouraging new revenue streams from digital services and corporate sponsorship.

EMI is the first of many struggling music labels to confirm cut backs this year as digital sales hit an all time high.

Sorry to hear so many people losing there job but you can't blame that all on downloads. The price of cds used to be $9.99 now in some stores they are as high as $18.99. That is fucking ridiculous. I buy cds all the time, collection is crazy but shit is getting real costly. They need to drop the price of cds and stop spending money in the wrong places. Those people they got rid of all had a job that was to the progress of the record company. Where is the money going to if they are no employees around ????
