The auction of defunct label Death Row Records is on hold while outstanding royalty issues are worked out with Dr. Dre and 2Pac’s mother Afeni Shakur. A source says that the sale of the label is complicated because people bidding really don’t know what they’re getting.”What’s really there for sale, what assets do they have, no one knows for sure,” said one source.
Ron LeBow, an attorney representing Death Row Records in the sale, says the label owns the rights to over 11,000 master recordings. Death Row founder Suge Knight filed for bankruptcy in April of 2006. According to bankruptcy documents, Knight listed that his personal assets included a bank account holding $11, clothing worth $1,000, furniture and appliances valued at $2,000, and jewellery worth $25,000.
Sources say that Death Row could be sold for less than $20 million.
