Titled “The Barry Adrien Reese Story”, or B.A.R.S, Cass is seemingly looking upward for inspiration. He spoke to Billboard about the album, and his feelings about life during the process.
“When I was going through problems, from going to jail to the accident, even though I had money, I had power, respect and friends, no one showed up and the only thing that helped me was my faith,”said Cass.
“I was so worried about what lawyer I was going to hire and what judge will handle my case, but when I read the scripture, which says it’s better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man, I knew I was going to win and get through it with the Lord on my side.”
“It’s not church music—it’s just street songs,” said Cassidy, just to make sure his fans weren’t thrown off by the religious talk. The album, which features production work from Timbaland, Neo Da Matrix, and Swizz Beatz, is a reflection of his life up to this point. “So many serious things happened in my life. What I’m talking about has nothing to do with me being a rapper, but with me as a person.”
“It’s On” (I Got My Drink and My Two Step) is slated to be the first single off of the album, and a video is scheduled to be shot next month for it. Cassidy even produced one of the tracks on the album, “Me Myself and I”, showing a new side to his skills. He’s also releasing a new Green Lantern-hosted mixtape in celebration of his July 7th birthday, loaded with exclusive content, and the lead single from the new album.
“B.A.R.S” is set to release on September 14th.
