50 Cent "G Unit Album Coming soon"

by FULLMETAL

MONDAY APRIL 30, 2007

In this interview with Dj Semtex, 50 informs us that his new album “Curtis” and “Before I Self Destruct” are two different entities, tells the masses what his definition of “Beef” really is, and explains how certain statements can be easily misinterpreted when handled incorrectly. He also spoke on what he thinks is the thought process of fellow New York artists, and why they do what they do.

Another great interview. He's doing a lot of interviews over seas, I guess he's trying to make sure that worldwide sale number is up and let the public know. I'm really anticipating this pre GRODT mindset he was talking about like Batman Begins. He def knows how to hype an album up with talk. I just hope it meets expectations. Those features he has on the album better not fuck up the quality like those weak features Jay had on KC.

Anyway, all you niggaz after me commenting, lets keep the fucking comments on the topic and no dick riding and net banging and anti artist comments. New rules are going into effect and apparent and obvious dick handling of an artist or stupid remarks will get noticed, you will be exposed and may lead to being banned. Ask Slugg120 and other members with stupid comments. Lets try not to bring Game into this conversation and how he destroyed GUnit, Gunit albums is flopping, and 50 is a snitch and all that bullshit. Enjoy!

i Feel that. Beg For mercy had thee Original Crew, With some Really good joints together. But this NEW g-unit album is going to be like that GRODT soundtrack.. just a mixtape(feel) album with WAY!!!!!!!1 too many ppl on it. instead of having Banks show his talents on 1 or 2 songs alone. We gon have Banks,M.O.P. & Spider .(Meh) all on the same track. G-unit is Way to Over populated.. 50 need to Cut some of them niggaz off, and focus on the 1's that was down from the jump.

50,Banks,Buck & Yayo

M.O.P. are Vets(in my eyes) But they irrelevant on G unit. Same with Mob and lil Scrappy. Cant forget Spider Joke.

Cory P I agree with you. There are too many people on the label now and Buck adds a southern flavor to GUnit but 50, Banks and Yayo had amazing chemistry before Yayo got locked up and Buck joined. The mixtapes they put out, before the GUnit radio tapes and 50 blew up .... they were pure fire. Anyways, I'm not looking to buy the 50 album and expecting blow your mind lyricism and if there is some I'll be shocked and be content but the 50 album is something different and pure entertainment.

You know what I just shake my head at. The young kids coming into hip and appreciating music and thinking numbers and sales make a great album. Illmatic the gem that Nas dropped ahead of his time dropped in 94 and I think 99% of true hip hop fans can agree that album was flawless in every aspect. The album barely went gold the first year and welt platinum in 2000 or 01. Stop with the number shit and saying oh this album did shit or he didn't sell. Talk about the quality of the album and what its about. I could drop an album and sell 30 copies but if i drop science and its critically acclaimed classic, then I have respect. I'd love the money lol but I my name is out there.

LMAO G Kid, I'd be hurt and salty with 30 albums sold lol I'm just saying and UVF said it perfectly, what does the number of albums sold do for us? We don't get a dime or any royalty from these artist selling millions of albums. Its good to note they are reaching the mass but thats it. we the consumer need to focus on the music and what the artist says

Basically he's so rich now he don't gotta rap. He got 2 albums coming out soon and gonna attempt to bring G-Unit back to the limelight (not likely).
Very much looking forward to his album for the simple fact he picks great beats and if he used top producers then it has MAJOR potential.

album sales do nothing for the consumer. but then you gotta realize album sales are an advertising tool in their own right. when people see soundscan numbers, they wanna see what the majority is listening to. then they determine if its a must-buy. not that it should matter, but thats just how the world works. me personally, i just buy whatever i feel is hot. like prodigy's return of the mac. hot album, but didnt even hit the 30k mark, if im not mistaken. forget record sales. bootleg everything!!! hahahahahahahahaha!!!! money dont grow on trees you know. thats why god gave us limewire and bearshare. lol!

I have a pretty good feeling that regardless of Buzz(or Lack there of) those cds R still gonna sell Well. juss think bout it for a sec. How many of you were really really excited for The Massacre??? i was a 50 fan, but that project didn't really do nothing for me, and it still Sold. The majority of my pplz bought the CD just to hear Piggy bank, and just to hear what else 50 was gonna say. So even though there really isn't a buzz goin for 50, ppl still gonna buy it, just to C what Dre and Ems beats sound like. The masses will still buy it, because of the name. its 50. i Can honestly say im not interested in either of his cds, but i can say(honestly) i will be buying them. Cause its 50 and because i wanna know what hes gonna say.

I'm just gonna REITERATE an argument I made approximately 4 or 5 months ago. Suppose actors and actresses boasted that their movies OR, in this case, ACTING ABILITIES were superior because their movies sold more or less. Thus,

Beyonce > Halle Berry. Yeah right...
Marlon Wayans > Denzel Washington. Let's be serious...
Will Smith > Robert Deniro. Will is the man, but c'mon...

These are just some examples...

Country Grammar sold WAY more than Illmatic... So, I guess according to the next generation, Nelly is nastier than Nas. Hilarious.

Get Rich or Die Tryin' sold WAY more than Reasonable Doubt... So, I guess according to you all, 50 is nastier than Jay. Wow...hahahahaha...

Young Jeezy gets way more airplay and probably more record sales than Scarface, so I guess he's better. Nada....

Numbers mean nothing... not in the hood... especially since I personally know that white kids buy the BULK of the units... I saw it with my own eyes when I worked @ Tower Records back in '99 and they were coming in by the drones coppin' that Puff & The Family and Melvin Flynt the Hustla! It's also evident by the tremendous #s Em goes EVERY TIME he touches a joint... the white kids relate, or wanna emulate, and they cop the trizacks... the black kids don't... we don't spend our extra cash on cds, now do we? We trynna cop the latest pair of Jordans... or a new pair of $90 Akademiks that you'll rock for the next 3 years....

Go cop them Starbury's! They're hot! Holla!

first of all akon isnt hip hop. thats r&b. we all know r&b, along with pop and rock outsell hip hop all the time so what are you talking about? thats a different genre. besides, yeah he sold 2.1 mill, but if he had dropped in the 90's, he would of sold twice as much and probably had gone 5 or 6x platinum.

Record sales do matter--to us the consumers, the artists, and of course to the labels. It was the rappers who first injected the mentioning of record sales into the equation of rap music---period. They wanted to use record sales as measuring stick of who is/was hot, and who is/was not. So, if this is a standard by which they wish to be measured (let's oblige them and use it as a means to measure talent), then record sales are most relevant in a discussion of rap music, and rappers in general. Let's not NOW downplay the significance of record sales because record sales as a whole are down, or as is the case with some of us, because our favorite rapper or rappers record sales will reflect this downward slide in record sales. It is true that some people do look at how a record is selling as a compass that guides him or her to a given record or artist. Case in point: Hootie's 1994 breakout album and Carlos Santana's 1999 album---Hootie & the Blowfish was local band from Greenville, SC---the public sentiment at the time was that since it was high on the charts and selling like hotcakes due to heavy college radio station rotation, the album had to be hot and thusly it piqued the interest of more and more consumers (total sales in excess of 16 million records). Carlos Santana's album was projected to sell a maximum of 1 million records only in Latin American and Hispanic regions, but due to a high chart position and strong first weeks sales, the album picked up steam in the US (over 15 million albums sold) ---I can personally recall being in a record store and hearing people ask what's hot on the charts---using it as a barometer to decide what record to buy---and at that particular time, it was Carlos Santana.

As with everything else in life, this does not hold true in the case of every record consumer, but the notion does hold weight. I am quite certain that there are far more people than just Jimmy Iovine who are concerned with record sales, most notably, every living breathing rapper who's out there trying to eat. Maybe we all should only consider the content of rap records, but just like eliminating all the racism and misyongeny in rap records, it ain't going happen. To say that we should listen to records for content is a normative argument. This ain't a what we "should" be doing or "ought" to be doing kind of world, it's positive (how it is) kind of world.

WHO SAID I DON'T BUY ALBUMS. IT IS NOT ABOUT LOYALTY IT IS ABOUT MONEY WHY PAY FOR SOMETHING U CAN GET FOR FREE. THEY SUPPORT THEIR ARTISTS BY ATTENDING THEIR LIVE SHOWS AND BUYING THEIR CLOTHES.

Record sales do matter--to us the consumers,
- What consumers? Specifically, what demographic? So the first week an album drops, you're in the store askin how much 50's album sold? The first day? NO. YOU'RE NOT.

- False, the 1st person who really, really mentioned sales was Jay when he was smashing Prodigy on the Takeover back in '01, then it got outta hand. We used to compare emcees and album by skills...period. Hence, the term, "wack emcees", and so on. Even the mics in the Source used to affect "sales". There were certain artists who refused to send their albums to the mag for fear of a possibly bad review. I'll admit, I'll never 4get the day I had Cannibus' debut cd on the COUNTER and happened to look through the Source while I was in the line waiting and saw it ONLY got 3 and put it back and copped the Source instead, lol. The point is, the consumer really doesn't care about sales. Do you like any cd you bought more or less because it sold or didn't sell? Good music, to you, is good music.

Let's not NOW downplay the significance of record sales because record sales as a whole are down, or as is the case with some of us, because our favorite rapper or rappers record sales will reflect this downward slide in record sales. It is true that some people do look at how a record is selling as a compass that guides him or her to a given record or artist
- Yes, with the BOOM of the internet and file sharing programs like Limewire, Kazaa, Napster, etc., record sales are down. Why buy it, unless you're specifically trying to support an artist, when you can download it for free? This is my thing, back in the day, if your boy copped a hot album, you'd dub it. And when you copped some hot ish, he'd dub it off of you. For you young guys, this is when we used to dub with an object called a "cassette tape". So using file sharing sites is THE SAME THING, if you ask me. Before 01, nobody was checking Billboard.com and such to see what an album sold. Either you liked a song, so you had to buy the whole damn album, or the single, and you kept it moving. The same holds true today, if you want to support an artist, you buy their album. If you don't, you don't. You TEND 2 hope an artist does well, so they'll be backed by their label to make MORE music. But even that doesn't go down all the time. My favorite group ever the FUGEES, sold 18+ million, worldwide, which today, is ONE OF THE GREATEST SELLING RAP ALBUMS OF ALL TIME, and if I'm not mistaken, it may still be the #1 selling worldwide hip hop album of all time, and THEY HAVEN'T MADE ANOTHER ALBUM AND IT'S BEEN 11 YEARS ALREADY! So, what does that tell us?

Ejab I agree with some points you made. Sales mean something to the average listener or to someone who doesn't know about the artist or too familiar with the genre. If I wanted to go out and buy good music, I'll ask what is selling right now, and they would tell me Mister X and Y are flying off the shelves. That doesn't mean the album is hot and its worthy at all. That could mean Mr X has a single that is getting played and is equaling those sales. Record sales only show what is popular or what people are buying. Case in point, since I talked about it C-N-N - War Report was a great album but did it sell? No! People weren't interested or feeling the type of music. Again, sales show popularity standing, not quality.

Gkid, my opinion on Rotten Apple, I think he waited too long and picked bad songs. I don't know if you know this, but Banks 2nd album was supposed to be called The Big Withdraw. He went to some chicks house, she found a cd wit mad songs from the album and sold it and became a mixtape. Those cuts were fire. Also, remember to the average consumer, the songs weren't catchy or popular enough for them to buy. IMO Banks is a better spitter then 50 but 50 has the selling ability. I was surprised Banks sold what he did on his first album and I put those sales on the GUnit name. Anything back then with Gunit was selling. Everything that goes up, must come down. It's going to e funny cause and I don't see it happening but if 50 only manages to sell 1 mill worldwide, and the album is a classic, everyone will say shit and bring up flop. Thats your average hate and fans.

Real Talk... lol You are not the artist. You are buying the album for what the artist says and the quality. If Game sold 100k albums, and that shit was fire, and everyone agrees .. can anyone say anything? Again, who says shit about Illmatic? You guys avoid the apparent facts. Same with Reasonable Doubt. That shit went platinum years after it came out. Does it take away from the quality? No. Real Talk, if you put out an album, then you can worry about the soundscan and all. An artist flopping or selling, what does it matter to you personally. You enjoy the music. Not the money they make.
