50 Cent angers Interscope
New York rapper 50 cent continues to make headlines this week in what has to be the most controversial week for G Unit since the alleged Tony Yayo/ Jimmy Henchmen incident earlier this year.According to numerous sources, 50 is now catching heat from Interscope Label heads after he leaked a track off his upcoming album, Curtis. The track, “She Wants It”, which features Pop singer Justin Timberlake was released yesterday, July 5th on the web without Interscopes consent.
The Label has now launched a damage control campaign and has barred radio stations from playing the single as well as contacting numerous websites and bloggers demanding the song be removed. California hip hop station Power 106 has stated they will continue to play the newly released song despite being told not by Interscope reps.
Interscope explained their actions stating that they want 50 to focus on his latest official single, “I Get Money”, a remix of the first track released from the album titled, “Straight to the Bank”, and promote the debut of the newly filmed video.
Curtis is slated for a September 4th, 2007 release.
Game and Akon not wanted in Australia
In other news, West Coast rapper The Game and R&B singer Akon have caused a stir with their upcoming appearance at the annual “Rock tha Block” concert in Australia.
According to Allhiphop, The Family Council of Victoria and the Australian Family Association voiced opposition to both artists appearances, claiming they were not good role models for local children due to their criminal records.
“We don’t really need people from the criminal end of town acting as heroes up on stages for our young people to admire,” AFA national secretary Gabrielle Walsh told the Melbourne Herald.
Immigration officials in Australia are currently reviewing the Game’s visa, while the department has not yet received an application for Akon.
Both artist have made controversial headlines in recent months.
The Game was recently arrested and charged for allegedly brandishing a gun during a game of pick up basketball in February. He pled not guilty to the charges in June. He is also fighting cimrinal charges alleging that he impersonated a police officer, while riding in a cab in New York. He also pled not guilty to those charges in January.
Akon drew controversy worldwide, when footage surfaced of the R&B singer dancing provocatively at a concert with an underage girl in Trinidad.
