?uestlove has announced that The Roots have linked up with Elvis Costello and will release a collaborative album. The drummer also noted that the Philly crew has plans to follow-up the joint album with Costello by releasing a new Roots album.

During a recent interview with Billboard, ?uestlove revealed that The Roots have a collaborative LP with Elvis Costello in the works, and it will be released this year.

?uestlove explained how working with Costello came to fruition:

It was really love at first sight.

He adds, by the third time they backed Costello on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, they knew they had to work together:

The second time he came on, we surpassed the first one. So by the third time, he was like, ‘Let’s stop messing around and do something together.’

?uest states that they planned to record just a couple records together, but ended up doing 20:

We had 13 or 14 songs, but then we said, ‘Ooh! Wait a minute! Let’s replace four of these songs with four better songs! And now we have the tightest 12-14 song collection out of about 20 songs that we made.

During the interview, ?uestlove also revealed plans to release a new Roots album entitled & Then You Shoot Your Cousin in late 2013 or early 2014.
