Yet again, Compton emcee Kendrick Lamar has set hip-hop in a frenzy, this time with a mere 15 second clip of a cypher for BET.
“Yeah, and nothing’s been the same since they dropped Control
And tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes
Ha-ha, joke’s on you, high-five
I’m bulletproof, your shits will never penetrate
Pin a tail on a donkey, boy, you been a fake”
Speculations have been that it was aimed at Drake, whereas the jab at Papoose went almost unnoticed. The “Ha Ha joke’s on you” bit is a clear play on Papoose’s words from his “Control Freestyle”:
“You’ll never be a real West Coast artist like Eazy E/ you a fucking joke, we laugh at you like he-he-he”. He also states: “My bullets hit em dead in his cooty come out of his booty.”
While K.Dot replies:
“I’m bulletproof, your shits will never penetrate”.
Therefore, Papoose is clearly a target in Kendrick’s recent verse. Papoose however, responded to the clip in a recent interview with XXL.
“He can’t fuck with me. He’ll never be able to shine my shoes, lyrically. So I’m just gonna be able to continue to prove that, to show and prove, like I did on “Control.” This is hip-hop, I love hip-hop, but I just want to continue to show and prove that he can’t fuck with me lyrically. You can look forward to that in my next release, straight up. I live in the studio, that’s my second home. So yeah, I’m definitely going to respond.”
Pap further went on to say:
“I love hip-hop, man, I’m enjoying this. His response at the BET Awards was comical; they should have brought me there if they wanted a real MC on the microphone.”
~ Drake might or might not respond, so who cares. Maybe a Kendrick vs. Papoose beef is the real deal.
