Dating back to 2006, Game has been taking shots at Jay-Z, but after all that time, the Compton rapper never got an official response from Hov. Now, with the beef seemingly at a standstill, Game breaks down his beef with Jay, and says he believes that he has earned the Brooklyn rappers’ respect.
During a recent interview with Vibe, Game addresses his past beef with Jay-Z.
I’m probably one of the only cats that ever went straight at Jay-Z’s neck and still had a career after, which was risky. I remember even fighting, having a real argument – a real altercation with the mother of my children, because she was a Jay-Z fan. She was like, “You don’t know what you’re doing. He’s going to come back and we’re not going to be able to survive.”
And I just wanted to be like, What? This is crazy, Jay even got, but you know. But Jay and Beyonce are a powerful couple man. They’ll turn your whole family against you, but I did it any way.
As the interview continued, Game touched on never getting a response from Jay-Z:
Jay never responded. For, number one, he is smart and I think that he knows that I’m reckless and there’s nothing that I can’t say. He has to be filtered because he’s more of a businessman and a little bit older and he’s doing all these business deals, so he can’t really go as reckless as I can, but once I go, I’m going.
Game adds that he believes that he has earned Hov’s respect:
Plus Jay, I think in his own right respects me as a lyricist. He doesn’t have to do a song with me, but I know that he listens and I know that he respects me because he responds sometime, like on “One Blood” when I hit him with “You’re 38 and still rappin’, uh” and he came with – I think it was on “Kingdom Come” “I used to think rapping at 38 was ill until last year I grossed 38 mill.” So he listens, and he responds sometimes, so that’s cool in it’s own right.
