..So everyone has pretty much seen the infamous battle which no doubt birthed the first Hip Hop catch phrase/slang of 2007. “Oh you mad cuz i’m stylin on you” are the now infamous words thrown by rapper Nyckz at Enj before the punch heard around the world.
A couple of weeks ago, EnJ, the rapper that threw the punch did an interview with "rock and roll is dead" (blog) in which he discredited Nyckz and spoke on how he and his crew robbed him. Well, we decided to reach out to Nyckz and see what really went down.
If you haven’t seen the video, check out the entire thing below:DS: Whats good Nyckz, first and foremost thank you for taking the time to sit down with us and clear the air, so just go ahead and introduce yourself for our readers?

DS: So you’ve been rapping for how long?..Have you always battled or is that something that came with rapping?..
Nyckz: I’ve been rapping since I was a little dude, seems like forever.
I’ve always battled, to me, if you’re a rapper you have to. Coming up in school if someone comes at you throwing lines at you, you gotta hit em back.
DS: Lets get into this video, the infamous video seen around the world. What exactly went on that day. I mean..we’ve seen the video of the punch and now we’ve seen the video of the battle from beginning to end, but what’s your take on things?
Nyckz: I never thought it would get this crazy. I never thought it would spread around and get as far as it did. I thought it was gonna stay local and it just got so big, people get punched in rap battles so i never thought this would be the thing that would open doors for me.
DS: Did you know ENJ before the battle?
Nyckz: nah, i never really heard of dude. Everybody kinda knew me in the room but i never heard of him.
DS: Did you read the interview he did with Rock and roll is dead?
Nyckz: nah, I’ve heard rumors about it.
DS: In the interview he did, he said, you had a 9 on you and not a cal?..true or false?
Nyckz: I can’t really answer that question, cause, I’m going to court for a situation right now so I’ll just leave that to the spectators. I feel like,they tryna tell on me. Like, he’s trying to tell police that I actually had one or something, real dudes don’t really talk about that but he’s running around here parading and shit.
DS: Do you think he’s trying to get exposure from the video and trying to come off hard (nomo) even though he ran after he threw the punch?
Nyckz: Yeah, you could see the feet moving at the end of the video, He ran before the punch even landed. He took off!,he stepped on females, people got trampled and everything.
DS: He also said he robbed you and your man focus, and snatched ya chains..is that true ?
Nyckz: Nah thats not true, I don’t rock a chain, I have big earrings and I stay with my earrings, people know me for that.
DS: That was before the battle right?
Nyckz: Nah, nobody knows what really happened, We was at a club in speed and I ripped the show up. After the show, we see them outside i didn’t even know it was them, i just thought it was some guys tryna holla at my girl so I took off my earrings got out the car and started scrapping, I walked away without a scratch on me. The cops came, i told em I don’t really know these dudes, I don’t speak on anything cause I’m not trying to get him locked up, I’m not snitching on anyone. My moms told me that anyone that runs around trying to tell their side of stories are lying, lies always spread faster than the truth. Thats why his story came out long before mine,
DS: aight, last question about the vid…he smacked your hand when you got close to him but he grabbed your hat and got a bit too close for a battle, why did you let that slide?
Nyckz: I realized I was getting advantage of his mind, you know when a basketball player is crossing someone and the other dude tries to play aggressive defense and ends up hacking the guy instead. Thats what happened, instead of playing defense and waiting for me to slip up, nigga got a foul. I knew he was getting mad, so i figured why stop now..I kept getting at him.
DS: Word, I mean if you can’t handle the battle, why even battle?
Nyckz: Exactly, I was just trying to keep it music cause out here in LI, we don’t have record labels and A&Rs looking for talent or anything. So I was trying to keep it to music so we can get some attention but he couldn’t handle it. I mean i had power of the situation, if I wanted to take it that route they wouldn’t even be standing or doing this rap shit. They’re from a whole nother town from us, we’re from Hempstead, they’re from Roosevelt. I got love in Roosevelt..I got peoples there that got love for me. He’s disrespecting, he hides from now, when i see him, he runs. I’m still in the streets, you can come out here on Fulton ave and probably see me in front of the stores. And that battle wasn’t even me at my best, he ain’t even on my level. My music will speak for itself, his is not. Thats another thing alot of people will see, I can make good music, alot of battle rappers cant make good music.
DS: aight, so what were you gonna say AFTER the "oh u mad" bar?
Nyckz: after that i was gonna say something like "I don’t have to call out niggas to spill ENJ on the floor, i don’t gotta pour out liquor" But i didn’t get to say it
DS: well we about to put that on blast, early! Has the popularity of the vid helped your career out any?
Nyckz: I mean, my popularity has definitely boosted, my myspace is getting crazy views and my music is getting crazy plays,The battle is getting like 30k downloads a day. I never thought it was gonna get that big, some guy got aggressive in a battle, stuff like this happens in the hood everyday but someone just happened to get it on camera and the rest is history i guess.
