WHY HIP-HOP SUCKS

by REIGN

SATURDAY OCTOBER 7, 2006

Old School.

I remember when old school was new school. There is no more “new school”.

Everything new that comes out nowadays is “new shit”. It’s almost like music has been recycled for the past 10 years. Sure it looks shinier and brighter than 10 years ago, however, don’t be fooled. The only difference is that “artists” get makeovers.

The majority artists’ lyrical content sucks dick. Nobody is creative anymore. They aren’t hungry any more. It’s like a house with dirty walls. Instead of cleaning the walls, they just paint over it. And we’re at the 10th layer of new paint. It’s going to start to chip away soon, and that will be great, because then the original surface will be exposed and brought back.

Granted, “back in the day”, niggas had to floss a little bit. Slick Rick, LL, Run-DMC, they all had rope chains. But they didn’t make full albums about them. They definitely deserved a shout out though… Shit, if I paid so much for something I would probably say SOMETHING about it. But today, it’s almost the “standard” to be iced out.

Case in point: DMX. Respected by many NOT because of his lyrical mastery but because he’s a regular real dude. No fancy shit. He battles depression and drug abuse. REAL shit.

When’s the last time you heard an artist come out with a track that DIDN’T have to do with bitches or crack. IT’S PLAYED OUT. You always need to have that “bitches” track or that “drug hustling” track just to appeal slightly to the masses (of course, record labels want this type of single; it’s good for record sales) but when someone creates his or her whole album about it, it gets redundant.

Tiring.

Wack.

Corny.

I want Das Efx comin’ out of the sewers again.

I want to hear the RZA tell how when he was “about to die from thirst that’s when the minister/cleansed my jaws with a cold glass of vinegar”.

I want Kool G Rap to draw me into a fictional story of how he got a job with the mob making G’s.

The days of Black Moon’s “Bucktown” and KRS’s “We In There” have been replaced by D4L’s “Laffy Taffy” and countless other ass shakin’, phony rhyming “hip-hop” acts that are out today.

And THAT’s why HIP-HOP SUCKS!!!

Couldn't agree more. You definitely need at least one track on your CD that's a club banger, but to make a whole CD like that? It's like DJ Webstar's CD. Every song sounds like a bootleg remix of Chicken Noodle Soup. And you guys that are hating on 50, he was the ish back in the day I'm telling you. Check out the CD Guess Who's Back and some of his older mixtapes and you'll be pleasantly suprised.

You're right , 50 WAS the shit back then. A lot of kats be hatin on him, but 50 deserves what he got. 50 helped do a lot for hip-hop, regardless of the shit he talked to everyone. So people could say he "sold out", but he paid his dues and deserves to reap the rewards.

I can't agree his old raps are nice but now he fell into the commercial side of hiphop that dont really represent the streets but his early raps is good. but now I only hear about sex from him

I feel when 50 came out he brought that underground , street grimey shit back to the surface. He also took that underground sound (well Dre did actually) and brought that to the masses. Millions of people from all over the world become 50 cent fans and that spread hip-hop globally. That can not be said for too many artists out there...

Hip-Hop doesn't suck, the artform is getting slandered by a handful of corn bread rooster head kids but HIP HOP is too global to be dead, music is a universal language there are people in third world countries whom can't speak english but can rhyme along a Jay-Z song, and not kmow what the hell their saying but their repeating it clearly as if they speak english. See what Im sayin? We always home, it's like we never left we on the global phone!

50's first album did do a lot for hip hop and people hate on him but he is trying to make his money by sitting back and producing, movies and signing new artists. Speaking of real dudes....Eminem dont make that list? He has his radio jingle that comes out and then all his other songs are real. The Re-up songs are pretty real too, like when he talks about being a legend and the formula was to hit mainstream. Lil wayne is somewhat real...A lot of his songs are lyrically alright but he gets into the crack and bitches alot too.

I'm tired of the flossy shit. Biggie fuck the game up with that one, that's why I didn't like him at first but his 2nd album proved he had skills. He acted like he made it big his 1st release holding champagne glasses like a hoe.We need to stop letting these niggas brag to our face like that.basically if we came up in the same struggle and i made it big why would i throw it all in your face like that? I would expect to get robbed every 5 minutes trying to keep up with rich white people. Mu'fuckas be to concerned with status, a real artist has a certain m.o. that lets u know they not materialistic like bitches.REALTALK

You know what REIGN thats a feeling i get as well man alot.
Jay-Z and Snoop Albums was wack and Nas album was wack.
Its like artists aint putting no effort into as you say.
The fact is that they rap about their sucess and forgets about the people.
If anything the underground Hip Hop movement is big yo i mean their is the shit.
But emcee`s in chart man its like i aint with that shit so much no more.
Im a emcee myself and so its like ive seen this as you say.
Emcee`s gotta understand that you hold a mic in your arm so dont abuse it.
"Hip Hop Is Dead" wasnt started in 2006 it was started in the beginning of Hip Hop.
Thats what people need to realise we`ve seen reporters and poleticans dissing the genre.
The fact they blame the artists is really ridculous the truth is the parents & people dont have controll.
Hip Hop dosnt suck only the emcee`s who`s abusing the mic sucks thats the truth man.
It aint about smoking weed or how much bling bling you got or fucking bitches.
I mean im tired of gangsta rap you know im really tired of that bullshit.
Dudes is actors straight up and uses the gimmic on and on
