Top 10 highest selling rap albums of all time (5-1)

It’s about that time to finish up the countdown on the Top selling Rap Albums of all times, some of you are bound to be surprised by the top 5 while many of you hit the nail right on the head. Remember the margins used were only US margins and not worldwide.

5. Eminem – The Eminem Show (Aftermath, 2002)

At number 5 we have the highly controversial and massively popular The Eminem Show. Released ahead of schedule on May 28th, 2002, Eminem’s 3rd Major Label release sold over 7.6 million records by the end of 2006 and became Em’s third straight LP to win the Grammy award for Best Rap Album of the year. The album was ranked 317th in Rolling Stone Magazine’s 500 greatest Albums of All times and has sold well over 10 million records to date.

Audiobit: Eminem – White America

4. Eminem – The Marshall Mathers LP (Aftermath\Interscope 2000)

Eminem appears on this list once again with his sophomore album, The Marshall Mathers LP. Selling over 1.7 million copies during the first week of it’s May 23rd, 2000, release, The Marshall Mathers LP quickly became the fastest-selling rap album in history, almost tripling the record set by Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle and crushing the record for highest one-week sales by a solo artist previously held by Brittney Spears. The Marshall Mathers LP has sold over 10 million records in the US and is one of only four rap albums to achieve an RIAA Diamond Certification.

Audiobit: Eminem Feat. Dido – Stan

3. The Notorious B.I.G. – Life After Death – (Bad Boy, 1997)

At Number 3 we have the second album by rap great, The Notorious B.I.G. Released on March 25th, 1997, two months after his death, the 24 track double LP is one of four albums to receive an RIAA certification of Diamond.

Considered by many to be one of the greatest rap albums of all times and is said to be among the first albums fashioned for the mainstream pop charts as it was created to include both gritty/hood music as well as include a very radio friendly vibe. To date the album has sold well over 10 million records in the US and was ranked at number 483 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of 500 Greatest Albums of All times.

Audiobit: Notorious BIG feat Diddy- Mo Money Mo Problems

2. MC Hammer – Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em (Capitol, 1990)

Released on March 13th, 1990, Mc Hammer’s second album stayed on top of the Billboards 200 chart at #1 for an amazing 21 weeks run.

Carried by the success of “U Can’t Touch This,” The album was the first Hip Hop album to be certified Diamond by The RIAA selling over 10 million records.

The album has also been credited as one of few to raise rap music to a new level of mainstream popularity.

Audiobit: MC Hammer- You Can’t Touch This

1. OutKast – Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (LaFace, 2003)

Finally, at number 1 we have the September 23rd, 2003 double LP release of Outkast. Big Boi’s and Andre 3000’s “Speakerboxxx/ The Love Below” sold over 5.5 million copies, however, due to the fact that it was a double LP, the total sales came in at over 11 million copies and reached Diamond certification by going 11 times platinum.

To date, the album remains as the best selling hip hop album of all time and became the best selling album worldwide in 2003.

Audiobit: Outkast- Heya

Audiobit: Outkast- Roses

Notes

- An honorable mention goes to Nelly’s Country Grammer which went 8 times platinum in 2000.

- 50 Cent isn’t on this list because he’s only sold 6 Million copies of GRODT in the US..12 Million worldwide.

- The highest selling album of all times is speculated to be Michael Jackson’s Thriller, which has sold over 54 Million Records to date.

That was predictable, but that Outkast album wasn't good.Only reason it sold so much was because Andre3000 was singing on it.And not even R&B, he was singing some straight pop tunes, like he was Elton John or something. The rest of the list was just trivia, everyone old enough to remember the early 90s know MC Hammer sold crazy records, and we all knew Biggie's "Life After Death" sold 10 million.

The next list I would like to see is the top 10 lyrical songs. Now that would be a hard list to predict, no matter whose on it there is sure to be a heavy debate.

Because when you put "Of All time" in the headline you make it sound like all over the world and as of today. Because Tupac should have been number one on this list!

THIS IS WHAT I NOTICE IN THE ARTICLE YOU PUT FOR OUTKAST!

"Finally, at number 1 we have the September 23rd, 2003 double LP release of Outkast. IT SAY'S "BEST SELLING ALBUM WORLDWIDE" TUPAC BEAT OUTKAST BY FAR WITH 28 MILLION. EVEN GET RICH OR DIE TRYING BEAT OUTKAST WITH 12 MILLION. OUTKAST IS IN NO WAY NUMBER ONE SELLING RAP ALBUM OF ALL TIME! DEFSOUNDS DO THE LIST OVER CAUSE SOMETHING AINT RIGHT AT ALL WITH THIS LIST.

Why is it that we can't have ONE fucking conversation without some nut just saying RETARDED shit...?

In this case that Nut is none other than the obviously attention seeking DR DRE... who of course is probably some 9 year old that didnt have school today or something. He's probably (if it's a he) getting a kick outta this shit right now.

But anyways... I knew HAMMER had to be up there.... shit.... he was killin' em... ALONE. He had no competition whatsoever! But he went broke trying to help out too many people.

I didnt like Speakerboxx/Love below either... I like about 5 songs off of it... but it's not us that counts... it's the young prepsters that matter... that Hey Yaa shit did it for em.

Southernplayalisticcadillacmusic still gets a lot of airtime from me... shit right now as we speak! Hootie-Hooo!

if 1 double CD sold counts as 2. Shouldn't it make 50's 1 cd a better seller?? if 1 cd sells 12-15 million or wtv the figures were, and it took 1 double cd to beat it. doesn't that make 50's cd a much better seller? and then you got all eyez on me. im definately not in agreemence with this list. it should be 2pac-50-mc hammer then the rest of the list. Majority of the pop culture put him in the 10 million sold status. so big ups to Outkast

Man I would LOVE to see that. but that debate would go on for dayz! It's all a matter of opinion of how a rapper's lyrics touched you personally / individually. Like 5 of those top 10 songs for me would definitely be from 2PAC. but I know for other's there fav lyrical songs would come from Nas, Jay, or Biggie, even Public Enemy. But this would be GREAT. You guys should do it, then have like a vote to see what the members of the site think. just a thought.

THE HEADLINE IS:
"Top 10 highest selling rap albums of all time (5-1)"

OF ALL TIME! IF IT WAS JUST FOR AMERICA THEN YOU SHOULD JUST SAY
"TOP 10 HIGHEST SELLING RAP ALBUMS OF AMERICA" NOT "OF ALL TIME"
HOW IN THE HELL DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? WHAT PEOPLE IN EUROPE DON'T KNOW WHO TUPAC IS? IT CAN'T BE OF ALL TIME IF THERES A LIMIT! IT'S LIKE ME SAYING "I'M THE BEST BASKETTBALL PLAYER OF ALL TIME" THEN I ADD A LITTLE SIDE NOTE THAT SAYS "only rated in New Jersey" ADMIT THAT THIS IS SOME BULLSHIT JOKESTA!

And technically Outkast Should'nt be on this list at all! Because only 5.5 million people actually bought the album and the cd itself was for the same price as a single cd. Technically more people did buy 50 cent, Eminem, Nelly, Tupac, and Hammer. But just because it had two disc it counts double! That's a wack rule! It's all under the same album.

Now then, as far as this being false information, heres what you do, go find the RIAA's Office Phone number, give them a call, request a list of the top 200 highest selling albums of all times, narrow it down to 10 from the rap/hip hop genre, come back to defsounds, compare the list, then proceed to shut the fuck up. My top 5 MOST UNDERRATED (well, in no particular order):
1. AZ (NEVER got the propa respect he deserved
2. Jada (NEVER sold what he should have sold)
3. Mos Def (All I gotta say is, remember him sittin' in the whip wit' Dave Chappelle?)
4. Black Thought (I feel bad that The Roots never really BLEW, BLEW)
5. Lil Kim (It's A SHAME NOBODY really heard The Naked Truth... I give her TOO much credit... she ripped 90% of it on some ol' unexpected ish)
***************************************************************************************************************

My TOP 5 BEST FEMALE MCs (in no order, except #1... that's DEFINITE)
1. Lauryn (She's in my Top 20 MCs period... maybe Top 10)
2. Lyte
3. Sweet Tea (I've been feelin' her old stuff, lately but I don't know if she has enough)
4. Kim
5. Foxy
6. Bahamadia (HER CAREER WAS WAY TOO SHORT)
7. Shante' (Even though the Juice Crew wrote all her stuff, she STILL DELIVERED!)
***************************************************************************************************************************

OH, and, ANOTHER list I'd like to see: 5 BEST YOUNG BOY ALBUMS EVER (YOUNGER THAN 20... no order)
1. Mobb Deep - The Infamous
2. A+ - The Latch Key Child
3. Shyheim's joint (I heard it was vicious, but I never heard it)
4. Who else is worthy? That's why I'd like to see a list, lol!

Defsounds R- You're retarded, first of, the word is spelled Credentials, secondly the word you're looking for is credibility and lastly; your reaction was anticipated thus why I overstressed the fact that it was based on US margins. And as always *ahem* if you don't like it...leave.

DON'T ACT LIKE A FUCKING CUNT PUSSY! I DON'T GIVE A FUCK HOW I SPELLED WHAT! I CAN CALL YOU A FAGGOT AND SPELL IT FAGET. I CAN CALL YOU A BITCH AND SPELL IT BETCH! IT DON'T MATTER AS LONG AS YOU GET THE POINT. OK PUSSY, OR PUSSE, PUSSI, PUSSIE, OR HOWEVER YOUR FAGGOT ASS WANTS TO SPELL IT JOKESTA! AND I KNOW I MIGHT GET BANNED FROM THIS SITE SINCE IT'S RAN BY A BUNCH OF CUNTS WITH TAMPON ISSUES. SO I'M GOING TO MAKE THIS LAST STATEMENT. CHARISMATIC IS A PUSSY ASS NERD, AND SO IS NOTORIOUS. WELL FUCK YALL BEOCHES CAUSE I'M OUT!

Kardiak,

You can't forget the other dude from Illegal. I think his name was Malik. His solo ablum was not bad at all.

Most underrated MC's to me is O.C. from DITC.

Most underrated group: Organized Confusion.

Normally, EVERYONE KNOWS that

CHARISMATIC DOES NOT RESPOND TO DEFSOUNDS R,

but my 4) I'd like 2 see an official: DEFSOUNDS "BANNED" LIST... so i can laugh!
was NOT referring 2 him, you FUCKIN' idiot... I was sayin' I wanted 2 see the list of all people who have been banned from Defsounds, i.e. the original MileHigh... ARE YOU BANNED, YOU FUCKIN' IDIOT? Then the shoe don't fit, now do it? Who is this guy man? I am workin' on tonin' down my foul language; if anyone's noticed, I've been saying "ish" and other non-profanitarial (ha, made up word) language but this guy, man... He's a fuckin' idiot.

Now, back 2 my regularly scheduled ban on Defsounds R. Thank you for both your time and your patience.

Charismatic everyone is just sick of your fruity ass comments, and your little corny ass quotes. If you don't got nothing to say to me then stop putting up:

Normally, EVERYONE KNOWS that

CHARISMATIC DOES NOT RESPOND TO DEFSOUNDS R,

I think that's like the 4th time I seen you put that shit up. So I must be striking a nerve with your overly sensitive ass cause it seems like you just go out your way to try to put me down. What the fuck is wrong with you? You sayin niggas is hating on you, but it seems to be other way around!
