Judging the event was New York radio station Hot 97’s own DJ Cipha Sounds and Ebro as well as Mtv’s Butter Man and Producer Amadeo. While the crowd awaited the competition to begin, International Soul Man Dj Soul rocked the ones and two’s keeping the crowd’s head simultaneously rocking as he played Golden Era joints from the likes of Pete Rock, Gang Starr, and EPMD.
Round 1
Soon thereafter the rounds began with producer Manifest leading the way on his Ensoniq ASR-10 showing off the beat that got him picked for the battle, to the crowd. While Manifest took a big risk playing the beat on the spot the move ended up working against him as he seemed to have lost his timing at points while riding the melody. The crowd as well as the judges picked up on the mistake as he was awarded a combined total of ten out of a possible twenty.
Following Manifest was producer Anologic with his own winning beat which thumped hard in the crowded room but didn’t win the praise of all the judges scoring fifteen out of twenty. And appearing last in the third round was Dj Static whos banging beats won the crowd and judges over scoring the highest total of the night with a score of sixteen.

Round 2
The next round was the remix round. Each producer was given an acapella of Jay-z’s “Dirt off Your Shoulder” to put over their own beat. Manifest was first to go and learning from his previous error he went with a pre made beat to put over the acapella however bad timing once again reared its ugly head as the acapella became un-sycnched with the beat and once again Manifest paid the price with an even lower score then his previous effort scoring an eight out of a possible twenty.
Next was Anologic ready to prove himself this time powered up his Mpc-2000 and blasted out a joint that could have gave competition to both Timbo and Danger Mouse over who had the better version of the song. The judges realized what they had in front of them and quickly awarded Anologic with a nearly perfect score of nineteen echoing each other’s comments on the quality of the beat. Static was next to follow and although he came with a solid effort the previous joint from Anologic overshadowed DJ Static’s beat and caused Anologic to win the round as Static scored a seventeen.
Round 3
In the third and final round another twist was added to the challenge. Super producer Just Blaze was to choose a record from his mass collection and each producer was to flip the sample and make it into a beat. While it would take a miracle for Manifest to win the challenge he made sure he would not exit the competition without a fight. He added the sample which Just Blaze gave over a loop of Queen’s “We Will Rock You”. The song quickly switched drums and headed to a more “pop” orientated sound which the judges seemed to be split over the, final result being that of a fourteen.
Analogic ensued Manifest showing the crowd his own take on the sample. While most heads in the building were nodding to the beat judges seemed to have a problem with the similarities between Analogic’s second and third beat and was penalized a high score for it. So finally the pressure all came down to 29 year old, Dj Static with the win on the line Static blared a beat from his Mpc 2000 that nearly tore the house down. Every one stood up for the amazing production that was coming from the speakers as Static flipped the sample a numerous amount of time each flip sounding better then the first. The crowd had already decided its winner with the way it was acting and the judges were soon to follow awarding Static with a perfect score and declaring him the winner.
After the contest Rawkus artist Naledge and Double O of Kidz in the Hall treated fans to a special performance performing songs from their latest release School Was My Hustle.
