It’s ya boy Fullmetal, and this week in Mixtape Murda we’ll be reviewing new mixtapes by Kanye West, Young Jeezy, and Clinton Sparks. Don’t be in here getting your feelings hurt, as I gave all of these mixtape a fair shot.

1. Score 1-3: don’t bother getting the mixtape.

2. Score 4-7: it’s average, worth listening to if you’re a fan of the DJ or artist.

3. Score 8-10: definitely worth a spin. Dope class.

Kanye West- “Can’t Tell Me Nothin Mixtape”

Kanye West’s “Can’t Tell Me Nothin” mixtape is one of the best I’ve heard in a while, as it’s filled with great content, and it isn’t over-saturated by it’s star. The title track (Ye’s new single) is a beast., as it’s co produced by Toomp And Ye himself. “Stronger” may throw average hip-Hop fans off a bit, but the hard kicks , and Daft Punk sample contribute to the song, even though its a snippet. “Us Placers”, is another track gone left, but Lupe, Pharrel, and Ye’s adept lyricism mixed with the mellow background make for an extremely enjoyable song. It just doesn’t stop here, as ther entire mixtape keeps up this kind of pace. I’m not one for R&B, but Really Does track with Jennifer Hudson “Magnetic Power” has me singing along. Download this mixtape A.S.A.P, trust me, you won’t regret it.

The Ice Cream Man Mixtape

Young Jeezy’s “The Ice Cream Man” mixtape is aimed at his trap audience, and in those ways, it succeeds big time. From the onset, “Pam” is a true Jeezy track, filled with aptly placed adlibs, and more greasy talk than a street DVD. Its easy to get lost in the rhythms, but if you’re a lyrical person, the schemes may strike you as rather simplistic. “Represent” feat. Rick Ross and Lil Wayne is another certified truck banger, but Rick Ross’ old verse brings down the quality of the track. “Trapstar” is a hilarious beat, and does anyone besides me think Blood Raw sounds a little goofy on certain tracks? “I Got Money” feat. T.I brings the mixtape back up to speed though, as again, Jeezy brings you into his trap world, and the horns and strings pulsate through the entire composition, giving it a gritty feel. I mean mugged as soon as I heard it. Safe to say, Jeezy’s “Ice cream Man’ mixtape is sure to be rolling through your hood all summer, with cold beats, and gutter lyrics.

Smashtime Radio Vol.5- Def Jam Edition

Clinton Sparks “Smashtime Radio:” Volume 5 Def Jam Edition is a pretty much hit or miss compilation tape, filled with plenty of hits and misses. Starting off with Ludacris’ “The Truth”, ‘Cris sounds hungrier than ever, rhyming over the “I choose you” beat drop. The Clinton Sparks produced “Let this Bang” deserves entry into clubs immediately, because when you can make DIDDY sound hot, you’ve done a damn good job. Fabolous and Swizz beatz dont falter much either. Young Leek feat Kanye and Ne-Yo isn’t as corny as the premise would seem, as Ye drops off a decent verse, and Leek.. does an alright job himself. Some songs like Sterling Simms’ “Nasty Girl”, and Timbalands track “Miscommunication” could have been left off the mixtape. All in all though, it’s not a wack offering, as it has more than enough good songs for the youngins’ to bump.
