10.Khia- “My Neck My Back”
Opening up the countdown at number 10 we have the notorious female anthem, “My Neck My Back.” The first and most notable single from Southern female rapper, Khia, wasn’t even originally done by the rapper. The single which cracked 2002’s Billboard’s Hot 100 entering at number 42 originally featured numerous versions done by a group of women. However, in 2002 Khia’s “My Neck My Back” launched her into her short lived 15 minutes of fame.
9. Queen Pen Feat. Lost Boyz- “Party ain’t a Party”
At number 9 we have 1996’s party anthem, Queen Pen’s A Party Ain’t A Party featuring the Lost Boyz. This track heated up the charts with its catchy hook and brought Queen Pen back into the spotlight after her appearance in BlackStreet’s No Diggity Remix. Unfortunately the Queen hasn’t managed to drop another hit single since. She is now a novelist.
8.Biz Markie- Just A friend
Who can forget the world renown beat boxer and Clown Prince of Hip Hop, Biz Markie. Coming in at number 8, we have his one and only hit 1988’s “Just A Friend.” The track featured on Biz’s “The Biz Never Sleeps” became a mainstream hit in the United States quickly after being released.
However, Biz is most notably known as being responsible for changing Hip Hop after being hit with a Lawsuit for sampling Gilbert O’Sullivan’s “Alone Again” track without permission causing the creation of a copyright law which states all samples are to be cleared with the original artist before they could be used.
7.Pras feat. Mya and ODB – “Ghetto Supastar”
Coming in at number 7 is 1998’s incredibly popular single,Pras’s “Ghetto Supastar.” The track which reached number 1 in the UK’s top 40 R&B charts, Eurochart’s Hot 100, Germany’s Top 100 and number 8 in the US’s Billboard Hot 100 introduced Mya on the hook and certainly launched her career. However, it looks like it was a one shot deal as the former Fugee hasn’t struck gold since.
6.Craig Mack – “Flava in Ya Ear”
Closing out the first half of the countdown we have the hit from the Bad Boy himself, Craig Mack’s Flava In Ya Ear. Though a relative quiet hit, the track blew up with the all star remix which featured Busta Rhymes, his Flipmode Squad partner Rampage, LL Cool J and a then young The Notorious B.I.G.
