Following the controversial departure of Young Buck from the infamous rap group, G-Unit is back on their grind promoting their second group LP, Terminate On Sight. As the saying goes, the more things change, the more they stay the same-- the Unit is back to their three founding members who say the time for happy music is over and it's time to terminate the competition.
Defsounds sits down with Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks as they fire on all cylinders at the competition, including their thoughts on fellow rappers Nas, Game, and former group mate Young Buck.
Check out part 1 below or listen to the audio at the end. Part 2 coming this Wednesday- Banks and Yayo discuss solo projects as well as their future ventures.
Defsounds: So how was the tour, you guys just got back didn't you?
Banks: Yeah, we just got back from Australia, we stopped in Australia first—we went to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, then we flew to New Zealand and did a show there, then we flew to Johannesburg, K-town, Tanzania.
Defsounds: What happened in Angola?--What was the whole chain snatching thing about?
Banks: You know what, you have to go to Angola to even understand the kind of energy and love they have for G-Unit, it ain't no artists that went there prior to us—except for maybe Jay Z, he might've toured around that way. When you go there, it's a overwhelming love—the people'll run and latch onto you. They're not going on stage with the intentions of taking anything from you—they want to come on stage and hug the artist and some times they don't let go. So it looks like its more than what it was.
Defsounds: The kid that snatched the chain—he was given up..did Fif ever get his chain back?
Banks: I don't even know what happened with that—you just broke news to me.
Defsounds: Yep, his mother gave him up—let's talk about Terminate On Sight, who produced the album for the most part?
Banks: I don't think it's like
for the most part, there's a lot of different production on there.
Swizz Beats on there..
Yayo: Shout out to Swizz, Polow
Da Don
Banks: Polow Da Don is on there,
Dangerous LLC is on there, Stereo, Rick Rock, it's a lot of new
production also cause we don't limit ourself. As a artist you should
want to give producers the same inspiration and the same shots that
you would want as an aspiring rapper.
Defsounds:
Right, did you guys get any production from Dre?
Banks: Nah, we didn't get any productions from Dre—not on this album.
Defsounds: What about features, will it just be you, Fif, and Yayo?
Banks: yeah well Buck is gonna be on the album, I guess that can be considered a feature now. He's on about three or four records.
Defsounds: Was this the first Tour you guys did without buck?
Banks: Nah it wasn't, we've done tours where it might've been just me and buck, me and fif, or me and Yayo. We all tour on our own, without anybodies help. So it's nothing that'll distract anyone—we just get out there and get it.
Defsounds: How's the atmosphere in G-Unit now that Buck no longer a part of the group? Has it affected anything between the three of you or is it the same it's always been?
Yayo: I think people forgot that the first—when we first came out it was Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks, and just 50. We did it without Buck—he was nowhere know what I'm saying?..We brought him to life. To me, it'll be some changes because you didn't really hear me on Beg For Mercy but you will on Terminate On Sight, so it's just Yayo's time to shine.
To me, it didn't affect no ones vibes—me and Banks grew up together so it's nothing. Banks is like my brother, 50 is like my brother. The decision Buck made affected our friendship but not the music, T.O.S. July 1st, everybody's excited..whoa whoa whoa! And I like the way she do it!..We got plenty of more crack. We always give you a album full of cuts, never one hit wonders.
Defsounds: You took some shots at Buck in a recent freestyle for Dj Self, can fans expect anymore of that on the album?
Yayo: I took shots at buck?
Defsounds:...yeah..you dropped a couple of lines about his IRS debt.
Yayo: oh I don't even remember.
Banks: [laughs]
Yayo: You're gonna hear some
more. A couple of rappers get their skirts pulled up on the
album—he's just one of them.
Defsounds: Speaking of, Rider Part 2—is 40 Glocc mad you guys took his track and blew it up?..He released it in 2006 and no one really paid attention to it.
Yayo: nah, 40 Glocc is a good
friend of G-Unit and Infamous Mobb—he was at the video shoot.
Banks: Yeah and it was never an
issue with the beat, he never purchased that beat so it wasn't really
a problem.
Defsounds: What made you guys change the title to Terminate On Sight a second time?
Banks: Well it's the follow up to Beg For Mercy, Beg For Mercy was talking directly to rap that year. It's no different right now, the timing of the album is perfect just cause the last couple of years wasn't the year for aggressive music. It was really like a happy time—everybody's dancing and popping champaign and shit so I think that the time, we're in a very very aggressive mode and you can tell from the mixtapes we've dropped.
I think it's appropriate that we have this aggression right now because its lacking—Terminate On Sight is just talking to anybody that considers themselves competition.
Defsounds: Yayo and Fox said in a couple of interviews that someones carrier is going to be ended on this album—ca n you shed some light on that?
Banks: You wanna know who's career is going to be ended?
Defsounds: I
want some details!
Banks: I bet you do [laughs]
Yayo: Well, we sent Fat Joe to
the Rap cemetery.
Banks: We sent Fat Joe to the
rap cemetery before the album came out!
Defsounds: yeah, so he's off the list then, who else?
Yayo: Cam Ron, we sent him to
rap retirement, Lil Wayne is on R&B mode, I think Jim Jones gets
it too.
Banks: You know what I always
say, if it don't apply, let it sly.
Defsounds: Hold up, you said Jim Jones? I thought you guys had no beef with Jim Jones.
Yayo: I mean, he and Fif they cool—I was in Atlantic city and we were kicking it a bit, finding Cam'ron is like finding Nemo..Game wants to blow his head off and his record got like 45 spins so we ain't even gonna talk about him. Fat Joe...two weeks on Soundscan, 5,000 copies—he's nobody.
Banks: Wha—What are you looking for when you tell people you want to kill yourself?
Defsounds: What am I looking for when I tell people what?
Banks: Game is saying he wants to kill himself—I just seen the cover to a magazine where he wants to blow his head off.
Defsounds: Well you gotta remember he has multiple personalities so that might just be one of the suicidal ones.
Banks: Well how the fuck does that exist in hip hop?..the last person I knew that had multiple personalities wasn't considered to be hardcore gangsta street rapper.
Defsounds: That's true...
Banks: If you're animated and you were costumes and you jump around doing all that crazy shit—yeah thats acceptable, but that was never acceptable for anybody in hip hop—I don't even wanna name no names or anything..
Defsounds: but cammon, it's a new age in hip hop, where guys can kiss other guys and still be declared number 1.
Banks: You know what you my
nigga, just for that
Yayo: Yeah I like you for that,
Banks: that's what I'm saying,
theres no standards anymore—theres nothing, theres no principles
that exist and thats what T.O.S. Is here for. I'm not with the tight
jean shit, I'm not with the glitter belts, I'm not into agreeing with
disagreeing or none of that shit and theres a whole big core audience
that's not into that shit either.
Defsounds: You guys are dropping on July 1st, the same day as Nas—How do you guys feel about that..any thoughts?
Banks: I don't know...we don't really know that yet—that's just when he wants to drop that.
Defsounds: Yeah but as of now, are you guys expecting to sell more or less than the competition—what are your expectations for the album?
Banks: You can't really compare it though cause we're the only group thats dropping—it'll be unfair to compare, three artists to one artist.
Defsounds: Right, but you know the fans are still going to make a case about that so, how do you feel about going up against Nas on July 1st.
Banks: umm...no comment.
Yayo: I didn't even know Nas was
dropping on July 1st.
Banks: just another album—I
don't even feel like they can be compared cause it's two different
things. We have T.O.S. And he has the Nigger album, so the approaches
are completely different, the subject matters are completely
different...
Defsounds: Are you guys gonna buy Nigger?
Banks: I don't know, it depends
on what I hear before the album comes out, I haven't heard a record
yet.
Yayo: But it's all about T.O.S.
July 1st!..WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOAAA..We live this!
Do me a favor ask Nas if he be in the streets!..ask him if he's living like me and Banks live! We living this shit!..I don't even wanna hear that shit, I'm in the streets right now, bulletproof truck, smoking, doing what I'm doing, we're the number 1 rap group in the-fucking-world. I'm tired of all the questions, everybody wants to know about Buck—he got a couple of features on the album, we let him rock, you understand what I'm saying but it is what it is!
Defsounds: You have a lot of animosity towards Buck Yayo
Yayo: I don't have animosity, animosity is hate, and I don't hate him cause I have more money than him. Believe you me, I ain't drop a album in two years, my money's longer than half of these rappers out there! You understand what I'm saying, my truck I'm in is two hundred thousand, shit can stop AK bullets. I wanna ask you about Buck cause this is the most media he ever got, if I flipped on Banks and Fifty tomorrow would you be calling my crib often?
Defsounds: Would I be what, you have really bad reception in that bulletproof truck..
Yayo: Would you be calling my phone often...it'll be the most media I'll ever get. It's like beefing with Game, I get tired of the questions because it's not about that, it's about T.O.S.
Like when we do a G-Unity cover, this Cocksucker gets it next—XXL gives it to him [The Game] next. If he didn't have beef with us, he wouldn't get the cover!
If Buck wasn't beefing with 50 and us right now, you wouldn't have people calling him.
Defsounds: That's not true, I'll hit him up, maybe thats my boy!
Yayo: Well let me ask you a question, is this the most media Buck has ever gotten in his life? Be honest!
Defsounds: It definitely is.
Yayo: That's all I wanted to fucking know! You know what it is, this industry shit, this media shit is a motherfucking circus. Ya'll never could get over me, I don't give a fuck, ya'll think I'm crazy—I don't give a fuck about the media! I don't give a fuck about Jimmy Iovine, Interscope, Steph Johnson, Buck, Game, none of that shit—I don't give a fuck about it, T.O.S. July-mothafuckin-1st, the proof is the fucking pudding we make hit records!

=Cam=

I dont like yayo because its because of his azzkissing bitchin and complainin about young buck that led to him being kicked out of g unit,i think yayo and buck should go at it,i been seeing alot of interviews and yayo been hatin on buck for a minute,i think thasa bich move, him bichin to fif and lloyd bout buck not bein loyal which is a bunch of bullshyt, these nikkas need to nip it in the bud forreal, this niikah yayo jeolus and afraid of young bucks potential, ive seen how he b hatin on the mann, and tryna to use there code against him
LOL YAYO IS BANKS' ADLIBS
he sould stay a hypeman, hes horrible i dunno how he acts so hardcore
FUCK YAYO ..Banks The Truth tho...but id pick buck n game over yayo n banks anyday...now that i know buck on dis shyt ima get it but this unit yall got goin aint gonna last to long wit yayo
you should fuck your self till you go out and do something that impress the world like g-unit do, don't sit on your lazy ass!
u hate so much but u dont even kno the man its jus music hater jus music
Fuck Gayo
why do they even let yayo talk in an interview for real! when 50 came out all he did was talk about how yayo was the shit an this an that; but when yayo dropped his first single i was like wtf...this is the guy? i knew then he was always gonna be garbage..there's no saving that dude for real! i've always thought banks had talent but that don't mean shit when he's runnin with gay unit cause he's gettin over shadowed by 50s head!
to the other shit though...camron is better than any of them...even though i don't like camron personally! lil wayne is on R&B mode but so what 50s been on that since he came out so i don't get that statement! an jim jones?? you're dissing jim jones?? hahaha why would you even bother dissin him? the gunit is dying people..that's why they won't diss anyone that's really up there!
I'm surprised Yayo could even talk with his lips all puckered up kissing Fifs ass
You speak the truth here, gay-unit's time is up
Nas and game get rid of them while you can.
if u dont like them why u listen or read the interview ?
jus to hate lol u dont like g unit dont listen to em or read there interviews hater
dirty bitch, next time put the audio before the write up
^^^..."Check out part 1 below or LISTEN to the AUDIO AT THE END. Part 2 coming this Wednesday- Banks and Yayo discuss solo projects as well as their future ventures..."
...smh...
well fuck me sideways
no more Gayo solo project. the only rappers that have ever been worst than Gayo are Hammer, young m.cc. and vanilla ice and Gayo gaining on them niggas in wackness.
lets get some shit straight. Its 2008, is ot ok for someone to call themselves a blood, gangsta, or even use street talk if theyre sporting Glitter Jeans and tight clothing???? Lil Wayne suffers from an Identity crisis if you wanna be honest. At least with G-Unit you know that theyget into trouble and start beef. With lil wayne or any of these other fake ass rappers, you never know what youre gonnja get. Today, hip-hop lacks creativityand G-Unit is the only record label that hasnt been following trends, but setting their ow. The rest of rap is cocaine seeling, champaign popping, bottles in the club and i can assure you that thats not whats really going onin the streets.
nigga, what r u talking about?..Gunit aint no different from any other rap group,.. what have they done that no one else has attempted or already done..."At least with G-Unit you know that theyget into trouble and start beef." if thats what u support and consider hip hop then u need to choke yo self,..straight up.."The rest of rap is cocaine seeling, champaign popping, bottles in the club and i can assure you that thats not whats really going onin the streets"...fool, damn near all there singles r JUST that...how do u support what ur say'n? u got to be a lil nigga...
nigga ur banned from commenting on any other artical...
=Cam=
Cam one thing different about G-Unit than anyother rap group including D12 (dont get me wrong i love theri music) is the fact that they are the most successfull no matter how you look at it... but all rap groups make hot tracks(the Lox, The Firm, D12, Dipset etc... but G-Unit make hit tracks!
im not arguing the fact that Gunit has been successful, im questioning homebois ability to justify how creativity in hip hop involves, and i quote, "At least with G-Unit you know that theyget into trouble and start beef."...well if thats the case then i guess hip hop needs more artist checking themselves into hospitals under fake names to skip on the bill...dude just dont know what hes talking about...'With lil wayne or any of these other fake ass rappers, you never know what youre gonnja get."... guess ure right about that one, never saw that kiss from Lil Wayne and Baby comn...(...hmm, maybe i did,...bad example***hetaerism awaits***)...but did u foresee Yayo smackn that lil ass kid comn?...NO... but i guess thats what he ment wyn he talks about setting trends...its all the same, niggas aint no different from any other group aside from at one point being more successful than their competitors, which has changed dramatically these past years, and even thats nothing different...
=Cam=
*haterisum*
Are you kidding me, gay-unit is just plain crap and it's the early candidate of the worst rap group of all time in my opinion.
tek you got a point about weezy, but g-unit aint settin no trends. them niggas are not original. people act like this gangsta shit started wit g-unot. naw remember kool g. rap. krs one's criminal minded and n.w.a. how the fuck are people givin snitchy credit for the gangsta movement. all that snitchin this dude does is NOT NO GANGSTA SHIT. PERIOD
Just cant wait til T.O.S. come out July 1st
It's called "reply" homeboy.
tony yayo is a funny ass dude he a lame but he funny as hell i can picture his hyper ass in the truck yellin JULY 1ST!!!! G-UNITY T.O.S. BABY! HAHHAHAHAHA lol
YAYOOOOOOOOOO.!
he a homo str8 up he doesnt have no money Fiddy keepgiving him what ever he want cuz they boys
and big ups wit the "it's a new age in hip hop, where guys can kiss other guys and still be declared number 1"
banks is that dude...he was talkin sum real shit...nigga keept it g...now yayo idk what the fuck is goin on wit that nigga but he be buggin da fuck out.....
yayo goin hard on buck gotta be shit we dont know bout cuz that fool outta control tryin to be like 50 runnin his mouth but i will say this for all the game dick rydas....when 50 and and g unit are outta the hip hop scene you gon miss em cuz all that will be left is lil bitches that wanna be friends wit everybody and afraid to call people out on they bullshit thats what 50 does he keeps rappers in line cuz a lot of em fake as shit and they needa be exposed and thats what pac did so you cant hate on that
Why are you sayin' that for Game dickryders? The Game is a beefin' king, let 50 and Unit leave. They haven't had a real impact on the beef scene since their beef with Game.
Mainstreamers don't even know about Elephant in the Stands, and that's just facts. Everybody already knew Fat Joe was trash. They've bee running that into the ground for how many years? And Joe is still around?
"Fuckouttahere."
As a huge fan of G-Unit all i got to say is that....they should really keep yayo away from interviews!!
that was some real shit i aint a big g-unit fan but they spoke some real shit i jus might cop the album........yayo gon b broke in 5 years lol
MAybe you should SHUT THA FUCK UP and wuit hating, hell no they aint dissed Dre but their problems goingo on with G-Unit and Interscope not Aftermath, and just to let you know G-Unit is signed under Interscope, and Interscope been fuckin em around latley!
Know what you talking about, before you even try and understand wit what other people are talking about!
1st Banks is got wild skills. He is the opening song on most mixtapes when he got a new freestyle out. So kill that nonsense! Second read the interview before you comment. No one dissed Nas. If I got a CD coming out unless you are 50 you don't talk about anyone else's cd in your interview. Banks even stayed diplomatic and said if he hear some tracks he like he might buy it. Who else do these journalist ask about another person's cd besides Gunit? That's because they expect everyone to fly out the window and start promoting some competition or help someone else's cd. I like Nas but like Yayo said, I didn't know he was dropping July first. He might flop. He just changed the name of the CD too.
Good interview, one thing is for sure they sound like they got something to prove, so to the G-unit stans that sounds good. I just want some hard ‘punch u in ur damn mouth’ music. I like how Banks was smooth and avoided the Nas Question,… Now Yayo is a fuck boy, you can tell he’s 50’s lil offspring. What the hell is wrong with him, Buck has had plenty of media coverage, I mean Yayo was locked up what does he know, Buck put in that work, he needs to be respected at least,…Damn Yayo is such a character he can’t even sit still for a fucken interview….Danm sonn.
As Far as these album Goes, if they bring the same fire and intensity that they had on the last mix tapes shit should be aiiight
Exactly.
Straight Outta Cashville >>>>>> Yayo's album/anything Yayo's ever done
Yayo is a homo for trying to get that last promo in by coming at Nas. Why the fuck he care where Nas be?
Message to Tony Yayo: People buy G-Unit's shit b/c of 50 and maybe even Banks not you fuck boy. Do what you do best and suck 50s dick while he pays for everything you want. Your 50's son. You can't keep talking bout legends (Ghostface, Nas....) like your on their level homie. Your JV right now step your game up and maybe you'll make the varsity squad.
true, true
damn da god... i hope yayo really hears you
^^Mak, I hope he hears me......I'm not the only one, there are at least a million niggas that think YAYO IS TRASH and he talks out his ass.
PS: If it wasn't for 50 and his expensive ass security (bullet proof cars, SUV's, trucks, bullet proof everything) Yayo would be dead right now. Real Talk. That nigga talks too much shit not to get popped.
o u really think so
of course they survived in southside coming up. yayo spent over a year and months in rikers island. he left with no cuts on his face, none of that. so i dont know bout him not surviving without the security
i also like to mention, yayo dont even be in bulletproof trucks. none of them do. 50 ride in it sometimes. yayo be in his regular rides, so i dont know what he talkin bout. i know somebody who seen him hop out his bentley in queens village...
Fuck..no fuckin' Dre on the album..that sucks, anyways I liked Banks in the interview, especially how he answered the questions about the Nas album. But this motherfucker Yayo is buggin' the fuck out. This fool says he don't give a fuck about no one? Wtf? He says that no one checks for Nas in the streets. Wtf? Fuckin' prick.
Some say lil wayne, nas, buck, game, and other rappers, need to hook up and this the unit. Well, exept for game, they smarter. fuckin with the unit, I mean, OR you get destroyd, your carier over, OR, it wont help anything. And lol, everyone hating on yayo, nobody hated on him a few years ago, then he was gangsta, then he was the shit. 50, banks and yayo are gonna do just fine without buck, not that I think it is not a shame buck is out, but they dont need buck, and it is what it is. Buck wanna stand on his own two feet, and thats cool, but yayo stay, like banks, because they know each other to good. Yayo sold like 800.000 copies back in the days, if he bring a album out now, like 100.000, but why? I mean, wtf, stupid ass bitches.
Its like everytime these niggas talk they speak in this other language. Its like a accent. Like a bitch talkin wit a dick in her mouth. Its like 50 made replicas of his dick and replaced these niggas tongue. Fuck these niggas. Banks used to be the shit when his first shit dropped now he just like Yayo. If 50 ever go mirked these niggas wont exist. These rap niggas is fraud. One day you on stage with a nigga next day you talkin bad bout him in a mag. Better keep that security around you nigga plus cops cause one day that shit gon catch up.
And by the way, Yayo for life nigga's, yayo just that dude. And you all juellous at him/
Fuck G unit Im gonna laugh when Nas's Album outsells album and then the next week Games LAX my opinion is that there album is gonna flop lol GGGGGG GUNOT LAX JULY 8TH MAKE SURE U COP THAT BUY A COUPLE OF THEM COPIES NOT THAT T.O.S SHIT THATS WACK
no Dre production?
I thought it was already said the he produced the track that 50 & em "kill" someones career with?
Yayo is stupid. He acts like he got rich on his own. He's been sucking 50's dick hard from tiiiimeeeee. Banks is my nigga styl. Hella lyrical. Yayo isnt real, he's not relevant in the game and he TOS isnt going to match Beg For Mercy. BET.
On this TOS ALBUM, GET PREPARED FOR THESE G-UNIT NIGGAS TO BE CALLING OUT PERR NAMES.
Yeah well hopefully this album will be better from the last one. An Forget Tony Yayo acting like he so good, you know why you ain't made an album in 2 years? it's cause you suck at your craft kid. He only rich cause of 50 cent throwing him some cash like a dog with food just so he can shut the fuck up lol. Banks is awesome he nice, 50 need to restep up his raps, get off the money, girls, & party get back to that street shit.
I whole-heartedly agree.
i like to say one thing tho
yayo performed the best on body snatchers... and equal on elephant in the sand
"To me, it'll be some changes because you didn't really hear me on Beg For Mercy but you will on Terminate On Sight, so it's just Yayo's time to shine."
I'll definately be buyin' Nas' album, not G-Unit's then. Banks is real so if his solo is hot, Ill def. grab it. And Defsounds, if you need an editor, holla at'cha boy. This article look like a high school kid tried to write the dialogue.
Fuckin Guppies
probably the one biggest thing thats wrong with hip-hop today............. THESE NIGGAS TALK TO MUCH AND DO NOT PRODUCE.
Yayo got a point tho...
Good read, ya'll need to fix some typos tho.
these niggas on fif dick bad i betcha fif be round there smacking them niggas in the face telling them shut the fuck up and shit and the do but when he leave they be talking again. pussy ass niggas. i want good music not niggas rapping bout other niggas just give me st8 up good music
oh yeah quit talking bout money nigga cause thats fif money nigga if you so hot why you wasnt on cribs in your own crib nigga last time i check them niggas was in fif crib not their own.if them niggas leave fif they aint shit they have majority of fif fans let me see what you can do by yourself leave that nigga your carrer is over and that bulletproof truck will get takin by the I.....the R....and the S REALTALK
CAREER

It's finna be some hot albums this summer, real good look for hip hop. TOS is being promoted very good right now, they got my bid for da album
propz on u interviewing Gunit (on da real Yayo has to shut his mouth
