Blame It On The Boogie

by BROWN BOMBER

FRIDAY MAY 4, 2007

I got seven Mac-11s/about eight .38s/nine 9’s/10 Mac 10s… – B.I.G.

It doesn’t take the hip hop police to break down those opening bars from the Notorious One. But what’s more dangerous: the words or the weapons? It’s like Chris Rock said in his comedy special Never Scared.

“White people sell guns, that’s all right. Black rapper says ‘guns,’ congressional hearing.”

A certain superstore may have one believe that an explicit verse from Hell “Ruger” Rell could do more damage than an actual Ruger rifle. That’s right. Don’t enter Wal-Mart expecting to pick up Devin the Dude’s latest disc next time you’re out. Actually you can pick it up but it won’t have the Parental Advisory stamp on the lower right hand corner. But if you’re heading over to the sporting goods section feel free to pick up that 20-gauge before you check out. Oh, I get it.

16 “dirty” bars = bad; 16 sights and scopes = good

Nothing like the good ‘ole stars and stripes. Only in a land where hypocrisy is as American as racism and basketball could this make sense. Now before the gat-totin’ pistol-holdin’ members of the NRA brief me on the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms, I have something for them. There’s this basic thing called freedom of speech that came before anything about a musket. How else can you explain Don Imus being on the air for so long? (Well that and the fact that he made millions for CBS and others.)

One could argue that Too Short’s favorite word is not protected speech. But I don’t remember the last time someone scrapped it out when “Shake that Monkey” came on. Or I seriously doubt Huey’s “Pop, Lock & Drop It” will shut down the club this weekend. So the next time someone puts society’s ills solely on hip hop, do me a favor. Ask that person if DJ Don Cannon’s sounder is more serious than ducking rubber bullets and billy clubs from an LAPD imitator.

man u missed the point completly its got nuthin to do with downloading or boycoting wal mart its the fact that these people view hip hop more dangerous than selling someone a gun and are basically saying hearing bad language is more harmfull than taking a shell to your chest

This article aint about where u buy cd's.
Its about how we cant talk about guns but we sure can buy some.
U gotta be over 18 to buy a shotgun.
U gotta be over 18 to buy a parental advisory cd.
Kids get a hold of guns.
Kids get ahold of parental advisory cd's.
Last time i checked kids were shooting guns not cd's.

America is the best. You gotta love how they will blatantly contradict themselves just to bring down the Afican American culture... if there was a flipside to this shit, lets say hip hop appealed to these white collar, high class whites, you wouldn't hear a thing about it.... But of course since this is something that blacks started and embrace as a part of our everyday lives... its more detrimental to our health than the actual guns used to kill ppl... Makes sense, Congress! Makes me fuckin proud to live in DC where our great, great President lives that has made our gas prices ridiculously high, put soilders into a war without reasonable reason, passed that good ole Patriot Act, and put a Gone Fishin' sign on the Oval Office's door when Katrina hit... Oh yeah, America was made for us niggas.... And FUCK Wal-Mart... still sellin violent video games and movies
but we don't wanna hear this nigger Rap about violence. Let me quit while I'm ahead.

Wow... Boss as always and Mr. Pres... great shit...

They never cease to amaze me with the bullshit.
Anything and everything that "WE" as minorities touch and make profitable...THEY have a fuckin' problem with it.

It's not enough that they set us back 400+ fuckin' years.
It's also not enough that "WE" forcefully built or "touched" this country (wage-free) and made this muthafucka the richest, most prosperous, most sought after all around country in the fuckin' Galaxy...

U know what...lemme NOT go where I was about to take this fuckin' post...I dont wanna 'cause a Mason-Dixon line to be formed on this site...

But this shit is ridculous seriously.

Hip-Hop makes minorities violent right?
Well if that's the case then I guess that Christianity or Catholocism or whateva they claimed to have been... MADE THE KKK THE WAY THEY WERE!

(Those muthafuckas have been hateful waaaaay before hip hop was even thought of...
what the fuck is their excuse??)

BULLSHIT right? My sentiments exactly!!!!!

I'm going to leave it alone at this point...my fuckin' blood is getting warm...

A lot of great points were made here---except for the obvious ones that stick out---If you take a look at the timing of this all---the election cycle is shaping up---hip hop may become this election cycle's distraction---a distraction from what's going on in Iraq, a distraction from the fact that the Bush/republican troop increase isn't doing any good in terms of keeping the violence down, Hurricane Katrina will be used as an example of republican failure, the high unemployment rate, and the numerous congressional hearing that are being conducted by the democrats to flush out abuses and corruption of that occurred while Congress was under republican control, a distraction from high gas prices, and a distraction from the fact that the republicans opposed a minimum wage increase. Hip Hop is this coming election's gay marriage. Hip Hop is the evil that is tearing at the moral fabric of society (in other words, just another republican campaign punch line).

I think it is funny how "we" allow these people to set the agenda when it comes to our lives, how they have the right to define what morality is in this country. Also, I find it funny to see how all of the so-called activists jumped on the bandwagon to blame hip hop for society's woes, and how none of them could articulate the difference between a rapper who expresses him or her self by using explicit lyrics in a song( a form of art that receives protection under the 1 Amendment), and uses the word bitch or whore, and apply theses terms generally, to a generic group of men or women, as opposed to a shock jock who used derogatory terms to describe a distinct and specific group of woman.
