If you go on other sites, they'll most likely tell you about the highest sales and the most slept on albums of the year. We the great people of Defsounds understands that sometimes, the most slept on.. Are also some of the lowest selling albums of the whole year. I'm not saying that every album that flopped was underated, because lets face it; Most of them deserved what they sold. But here are the Top 10 of the Bottom. Some of the albums are up here because of the whole background and drama of the release date, the overall history of the rapper/group and last but not least.. The ones that just didn't sell..
10. Consequnce- Don’t Quit Your Day Job

March 6, 2007 was not a good day for The Conse. He finally drops his long waiting G.O.O.D. Music album debut and debuted at #113 on The Billboard 200, selling 7,490 units. The first that comes to mind is “Where was the promotion” Or at least, where was the marketing. The sad thing about this is.. His album was actually nice.
9. Boyz n da Hood- Back Up n da Chevy

It seems as if the only thing good about Boyz n da Hood is that they have at least one rapper each year that can make a hit record on his own. Kinda makes you feel sorry about Big Gee, Duke, and Jodi Breeze. Which also hurts because, that means they’re gonna be under the thumb of Diddy for another 1,000 years. (The Feelings and Statements in This Article Does Not Reflect the Views of Defsounds.com. Please don’t sue!) Even though they debuted at #55 on The Billboard 200 on October 2, the “N.W.A” of the South only moved about 15,700 units.
8. Pharoahe Monch- Desire

Mr. Monch didn’t really get the same result as he probably thought that he would. Seeing how everyone this year were just begging for real and down to earth Hip-Hop; His album and many of the Underground and Backpack artists suffered the same fate. Not enough marketing and poor album sales. Too bad Myspace promo’s on the featured artist section wasn’t enough. Better luck next year Pharoahe, maybe next year you can possibly sales at least 13,000 copies.
7. Little Brother- Get Back

Phonte and Big Pooh, puts together of one the most slept on Albums of the year. In my opinion they just keep getting better year after year. From “The Listening”, to “The Minstrel Show” they haven’t been able to get the commercial success that they really deserve. After the departure of 9th Wonder (So he can focus on other projects) the album sounded as if they had back up producers who have been waiting to fill the void. The lyrics were of course on point, but the fact still remains… They only manage to debut at #89 on The Billboard 200. And the sales didn’t even touch 20,000 falling 3,000 units short.
6. The Albums Mobb Deep Put Out Separately

It really wouldn’t make sense given both of the Queens Bridge duo two slots, when they’ve both put out solo projects. So let’s throw it all in one big pot that says flop shall we? Now, even though Prodigy’s “Return of The Mac” was just a sample of the quality of his upcoming “H.N.I.C 2” album; It’s still an album that didn’t sell well. Matter of fact, this album wouldn’t be on my list if it wasn’t for the event that’s passed. With Prodigy facing jail time; Mobb would have to be represented by Havoc, who made his solo project debut “Kush”. And, we all know how that went.. Ouch.
Don’t worry Hip-Hop Heads numbers 5-1 is still on the way..
Peace [O_O]

COMMENTS
Little Brother & Consequnce's albums were really good. It's a shame people are always saying that they want real hip hop, and when it comes their way they don't support it. That Havoc album stank by the way.
dat tells u dat HIP HOP IS DEAD n Jermaine Dupri needs to stop fuckin preaching to da fuckin choir sayin "Hip Hop is just changin" cuz dat gives assholes like Soulja Boy, D4L, Mims, Jibbs & Huey n all dem reasons to come in da rap game n fuck it all up!!! prop me if i'm right
I agree man, I REALLY ENJOYED "GetBack" and "Don't Quit Your Day Job!". "Desire" was fucking tight too. Fuck, Soulja Boy is selling 600,000 and these dudes can't even get 20,000. Sad, that's proof that HIP-HOP is dead. Soulja Boy ain't HIP-HOP, he's TRASH, GARBAGE, DOG SHIT. Fuck him.
You know what cant we all see that Hip Hop has different genres now.
It's like rock music started out all square and shit until people started makin it their own. Rock has different types, punk rock fans dont really listen to classic or alternitive.
The point is that all of them are alive.
HIP HOP can no longer be categorized under 1 name we have to divide them cause I'll be damned if Mims is in the same genre as Jay Z or Lupe or Andre.
OK I understand that you hate the dance music (Because thats all it is) but waht would you prefer them to do? I guess since its not what you like they should just stop making music. There is a time and place for everything. Nobody is trying to rewind sit back and kick it listning to MOBB DEEP IN THE CLUB. People wnat something they can dance to. Then when you riding around trying to get in ya "zone" then you would not listen to Soulja Boy or whoever and thats tiem to put in some Mobb Deep or whoever you want to listen to. OK Soulja Boy aint hip hop but he is something that people must like or he would not have sold anything .Those are CLUB BANGERS. Club BANGERS and rap are 2 different types of music. Niggas need to stop comparing the two.
dang!
havocs album was kinda good!
yea it was. SOULJA BOY BETTA BE NUMBER 1 OR AT LEAST DAT BITCH HUEY
that nigga "soulja boy" is gold right now, aint that a bitch?
to answer bigvic819, like I said on da top
dat tells u dat HIP HOP IS DEAD n Jermaine Dupri needs to stop fuckin preaching to da fuckin choir sayin "Hip Hop is just changin" cuz dat gives assholes like Soulja Boy, D4L, Mims, Jibbs & Huey n all dem reasons to come in da rap game n fuck it all up!!! prop me if i'm right
Nigga please, u pickin on artists who have little or no marketing muscle in this industry. Look at ''Curtis'', six videos, the hype of droppin on 9/11, plus the hype of goin against Kanye, and he finished at 1.3 million. That may not be a flop technically, but in terms of expectations, it was a flop. Buck came out in 07, got two videos, he finished at 350,000.Jay came out in 07, coincided his release with a popular movie, and he finished at 800,000 or sumthin close to that. What i'm sayin is, don't pick on small-time artists, expose these commercial-ass niggas who get all the marketing dollars, but don't sell shit.
Compared to how the rest of the hip-hop industry is currently selling, they are selling in comparison lol, so in that aspect it wouldn't really make sense to point all of them out. It's pretty much a given that people aren't gonna be able to go platinum or even gold the first week like they could 3-4 years ago, so they look for a couple hundred thousand at best the first week and build from there. If the top artists can only manage barely over a million, then it's fair to point these guys out as flops, cause there aren't many units moving in the industry anyway....
This was a good write up though, looking forward to the second half. Sucks that some of the best, most pure lyrically can't sell, but that's how the industry is and sadly has been, and it's fucked up that they can't get promotion like they should to at least have a chance. Cause honestly someone like Pharoahe Monch who's one of my favorite artists, I had NO idea he was dropping another album till it was pretty much out. If even the loyal fans don't have an idea about when to expect the release of artist's material, there's no hope for them selling to the rest of the public....
shut up you faggot ass hater demarcus. bringing up g-unit when they ait got shit ta do wit it. curtis??? you cant sell a million and flop dumbass. you just wanna bring them up cuz you a fuckin hater and you wanna bring them up in every situation, fuckin idiot
yo homie, real talk. R.O.C. what is u talking fam? first off g_unit is horrible. The CURTIS album was expected to do a hell of alot more than 1.3, it didn't. noone is trying to bring them into every conversation. open your mind and look at the real picture homie!!
g-unit = cold wackness
but sadly thats jus a opinion and a fact in my eyes.
how da fuck is 1.3 million a flop. dat makes u platinum dumbass. diamond is perfect (10 Million), platinum is good (1 million), gold is ok (500,000), neither is just fuckin bad, N IT'S MOSTLY DA REAL RAPPERS WHO FLOP ALOT THESE DAYS, FAGGITS LIKE SOULJA BOY R SELLIN CUZ DATS WHUT POPPIN ON DA BULLSHIT WE CALL DA FUCKIN RADIO N IT SUCKS BADLY!!! Dats why I stop listenin to da radio these days.
Yeah, Getback was ridiculously slept on. That album was crazy, just short of classic because of how they tweaked out on some of the end of their tracks ("That Ain't Love" for example), I found it at a Circuit City..only one on the shelf.
coooosiiiiiiigggggggnnnnnn CLASSIC
i could not find this cd anywhere
so i had no choice but to burn it
It got slept on cuz people these days loves whats on da radio. Y DA FUCK U THINK PAPOOSE HASEN'T DROPPED YET. Cuz da label hes in at least wants to get a single out there, and as we know, papoose won't do dat "Pop, Lock & Drop It" type shit. Labels would mostly these days put out a single dat would make a girl get off her ass n dance Cuz DATS DA BULLSHIT DATS SELLIN SO FUCKIN MUCH!!!
including G-Unit DJ D-Mob
that pharoahe album was serious, no radio play + zero advertising leads to no record sales, the only thing he gpt going for him this year was that he was in Madden 08 and was in the Rock the Bells Tour with some other serious artists (ie NaS, Wu Tang, Cypress Hill, etc)...if ur goin by record sales then yeah it didn't do good but shit it was one of the best cds of the year hands down
mobb deep's album as a duo failed what makes them think they can sell individually
lmao true
seriously
Did Dea write this?
Yeah he did Hav
haha knew it.
YO HAVOCS ALBUM WAS FUCKIN BANGIN (BLUEMERCURY) YOU OBVIOUSLY DONT KNOW WHAT QUALITY SHIT IS.
He never commented on the quality of the album.kush was 7/10.

alot of yall retarded this has to do with sales not howgood it was..smh
who is this fool.
I hope Freeway and Ghostface aren't on dis list. even tho they most likely are.
Little brother and Cons were some good albums by the way.
I HOPE defsounds forgets about cunninlynguist
and blu & exile those are two of the better albums of 07 for sure
the blu could be classic
haha the common album droppe on my b-day, n i didnt eeven kno dayum =S
it's a damn shame the Getback didnt do numbers, that is arguably one of the best albums of the year if not of all-time. They need to re-release that joint with a couple new joints and better promotion, the world need to hear that shit!
I like this here editorial. Co-sign Illseed talkin' bout Blu & Exile's album. That album could've been a classic with a lil bit more advertising/marketing. None of those albums up there were bad at all, none except the BNDH is less than a 7.5-8. I honestly hope that GFK, Styles and Freeway don't be on the part II.
Also, the dude demarcus has a good point. Much respect there.
Prodigy album was sweet. They should've put DJ Drama CD up here for being overhyped. But I agree with most of this editorial. Learn it.
ReDef.
Kush went double wood.
ONCE AGAIN NIGGAS IS STUPID.CURTIS SOLD 1.5 IN THE STATES.DO U KNOW HOW MUCH HE SOLD OUTTA THE COUNTRY?MORE THAN THE LAST 12 RELEASES TOGETHER.LOOK IT UP FUCKERS.

But finding forever did hit gold later
Damn u got a lot of time on your hands...the decorations and erything.
In terms of good music Prodigy, Consequecne, and Lil Brother all did well. In terms of sales they didn't do so well.
I look at "flop" when an artist decreases in his musical ability not sales. sales don't really mean shit especially not in this bootleg era. "Curtis" was probably one of if not the biggest flop in 07'. That was by far his worst album. Also even from a sales standpoint "Curtis" was a flop. Compared to his previous 2 albums Curtis didn't do shit.
Free At Last, Made, Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman), Eardrum, Finding for ever, Solution, were all great albums. Yea they didn't sell but in terms of good music they're all waaaaaayyyyyy superior to Curtis.
Red Gone Wild only did 200, I think. Lupe didn't go gold... it's only been out for 2 weeks and did 1 something 1st week... Jaheim did 176 last week and I know Lupe did less... Same for 8 diagrams... it's not platinum, NOR gold... it's only did 101 so far...
actually DaGod, Curtis went gold 1st week, Platinum later. Dats a good thang, I ain't ridin on 50s dick, I'm just fallowin da RIAA... STOP USING LIMEWIRE, BUY OFFICIAL ALBUMS BUT DOWNLOAD MIXTAPES FREE!!!
and to Charismatic, 8 diagrams did hit platinum, Billboard/RIAA said so
i blame jay-z for that list i mean shit he's gettin blame 4 the poor g-unit sales too.LOL
What up yall?
Da God~ I agree...
Free At Last, Made, Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman), Eardrum, Finding for ever, Solution, were all great albums.
But as far as Finding Forever and Eardrum... they weren't better than the 2 previous albums: BE and Beautiful Struggle in no way shape or form!
Now Styles P gave me MORE than I expected from him...so I was pleased... With Beans, I liked The B-Coming better.
Solution was missing a :Purple Rain and Bread N Butter caliber song.
BARS - It was aiight... I'm just expecting MORE from CASS...I mean everyone has the same style now. Time for a change up!
American Gangster was hott, But, Kingdom Come was a better album. More complete.
Fab's album was missing a lot... it just didnt do it for me.
GHOSTFACE - shit was hott...one of the best released in a while!
TI's decent album...but then again...I like KING better.
Scarface - Good album
Lupe's - I really have mixed feelings about this. I mean lyrically it's decent... But I find myself skipping through a lot of songs. I gave em all a chance but to be honest... It's BORING!
Wu Tang - uh... in no way shape or form is this album fuckin' with FOREVER.
Still a great 4th quarter!
~Be Eazy!
Out of all of those albums, I didn't here any singles or see any videos for them that weren't on internet sites like this.
Can we all say that people need to start buying records? at least the good ones. Consequence's joint was ill. just admit it
Consequence's album was sick but the article was right-no promotion. He had so little advertisement I don't even know how I first learned of consequence.
soulja boy should die, he has a fucking song called DOO DOO HEAD. IF U GUYS NEVER HURD IT, QUICKLY LOOK IT UP. ITS THA DUMBEST SHIT I EVER HURD SINCE I HURD SHOP BOYZ ALBUM, HOLY SHIT, IF U GUYS HAVENT HURD THAT ITS FUNNIER THAN ANYTHING U WILL EVER HERE!!!!!!!!!
I guess I can speak for Prodigy and Boys in Da Hood cuz those are the only albums I heard...I liked Return of the Mac...thought it was hot and slept on....real nice production...Boyz in the Hood...I can admit Diddy got me off of hype cuz it was a booty album...I will say I agree with Demarcus..pick on these cats that after you do the Math dont sell like they should...Curtis....didnt sell..and I roll with 50 sometimes...Jay didnt sell....and I fuck with him so those cats flopped to me this year..but Jays Original Gansta made up for it...somebody posted the numbers on that CD but remember it dropped when Nov ?? Dec???
Pharoahe Monch and Conse had some banging albums. It's kinda sad 2 see 2 good albums flop.......................Prodigy had a pretty good album too. I didnt hear Hav's.... People always say they want hip-hop but they wont support it..
What direction is the movment going in?.
