Nas had to know major retailers weren't going to carry an album entitled "Nigger" before he named it that--if you recall, Hip Hop Is Dead's original title was Nigger B/K/A The N. His label told him back then he couldn't call it that so he changed it to HHID.
With that prior knowledge, Nas still went onto title the album "Nigger"--while his label supported him, retailers still didn't. So what was the plan of action to market this album?...Push the title publicaly, generate the controversy, generate the buzz, then pull a "sly fox" (pun!) and change it to Untitle before its release. The audience gets the same album with a different title, everyone's happy.
Now again, let me say this-- I'm not saying the album will be bad, I only pointed out the whole controversy about the title. For you all bashing me and saying the album's going to be amazing--that's still yet to be seen. I actually listened to HHID continuously until The Cool came out (much better album, imo).
While we're on the subject--and yes this will be me hating again so hold onto your undies! Why in the world did Nas do a track with Game and Chris Brown for THIS politically driven/social album? Why not do a track with Dead Prez (ala Dead Prez Feat. Jay Z- Hell Yeah), why not drop a track with Kanye, hell why not reach out to some underground artists and put em on? Why not grab Common for a track?..Imagine THAT collabo..but Game & Chris Brown and Dj Khaled???...this track must've been the "OMG WE NEED A SINGLE" track. You probably would've had better luck hopping on a track with Lil Wayne and T Pain on the hook. I wonder what the Nassholes are gonna say if he drops a track using a vocoder.

From Nas' perspective, its either I keep the album title Nigger, and countless people who either won't be able to buy my album, or go through the difficulty of finding a way to get the album will give me props for stickin to Nigger no matter what, while none of these people would listen to the message in my songs since they can't listen to them at all, all while i lose millions in album sales. I heard bits of the "Untitled" album and even though there are great political tracks like "America" and "Sly Fox" and "Black President," I may have to agree with Jokesta in which he didn't use proper guest appearances. With albums getting pushed back all the time, Nas was SMART to change the name without a fight. A fight with retailers and his bosses wouldve easily made this album get pushed back, again. Nas knew his fans have been waiting for his new album, and being a SMART artist, he changed his album title for the benefit of his fans.
